I am going on vacation soon and contemplating taking the scale with me. Its a beach vacation so I will have plenty of activity to walk off those restaurant meals and cocktails. I am a daily scale guy. I have gotten used to the normal fluctuations. I have found some comfort in knowing daily even on those days when its not…

I have used several fitbit's, polar and now the Apple Watch. I like the Apple Health Suite. I agree that MFP significantly discounts calories for steps from Apple. I think the fitbit was more accurate with counting stair steps. I think the Apple Watch and the numerous running companion apps are pretty solid with using…

Yes and that is just it. I am doing about all you can with weighing and measuring food. I track everything and I mean everything. So within the margin of error, I am pretty solid with my food intake. I tend to agree that the calorie burn is pretty reasonable. But my results are not reflective of the calorie deficit of 800…

What is frustrating is all the different methods out there. I am an Apple Watch user. My active calories burned yesterday were about 1,100. My resting calories were around 1,600 or a TDEE of about 2,600. that was with around 25,000 steps (including a 45 minute run). Yet I have only worked myself up to about 1,800 calories…

I have been adding calories back once per week for the last 7 weeks trying to get to my maintenance calories. I started this before I hit my target weight in order to slow down my weight loss. Now I have gone past my original goal and am still losing weight here and there (mostly because of workouts). I think that is the…

I use QuestBars quite a bit. The worst part is the artificial sweeteners depending on what side of the wall you are on with that. Some of the flavors are okay, some not so much. I just ordered their new Mocha Chocolate Chip. Non-chocolate QuestBars- I like the Apple Pie, Strawberry Cheese Cake and white chocolate…

I'm sorry bud but adding 200-300 calories isn't going to make you lose weight faster. It's just not the way it works. Weight loss is controlled by calories in versus calories out. The amount of weight you lose over time is directly tied to the calorie deficit that you create. Now that being said there are a lot of reasons…

jringold- using Nutrisystem is absolutely no different than eating regular food with one exception- you do not have to be bothered with weighing or measuring the pre-packaged meals that you are receiving. Your calories are probably going to come in under 1,500 each day. You can absolutely get enough nutrients and vitamins…

153 day streak, log every morsel, weighed, measured and logged..., total weight lost 94 lbs, transitioning to maintenance.

There are a lot of free macro nutrient calculators out there. Here is one you can try and model several different ways: http://macronutrientcalculator.com/. There are a number of people on here with lots of different opinions and experiences. The bottom line is that most people don't think that you can provide your body…

Statistically you will see everywhere that you need to create a 3,500 calorie deficit per week (500 calories per day) to lose 1 lb per week. If your BMR is 1,570 and your active energy burned is around 500-600, then your calorie deficit at 1,380 is giving you a calorie deficit of about 700-800 per day or a weight loss of…

Just upgraded to Series 2... Very happy with it...

Everybody has some good comments here. I think you will generally find that starvation mode is considered a myth. The bottom line is that in order to lose weight you have to be in a calorie deficit, period. When you operate at a calorie deficit your body is burning fat stores (and unfortunately muscle if your not careful).…

Thanks for this. I am getting ready to switch to Phase 2. I am under 10 lbs to goal and ready to add some carbs back in. I know we are not supposed to be calorie counting on SB, but I do log in and still pay very close attention to it. Calories in versus calories out is still the only key to weight loss and I have done a…

BMR= Basic Metabolic Rate- or the amount of calories you will burn in one day by simply existing. TDEE- Total Daily Energy Expenditure- or the amount of calories you burn in a day based on everything you do; existing, working out, steps, etc. There are some good calculators out there for BMR that will take into account…

Rileysowner- this chart is awesome!

I am not suggesting that you are building muscle equivalent to burned fat. When you are losing weight it is because you are at a calorie deficit and your body is now using it's stored energy (muscle and fat storage), leading to weight loss. I think it is true that the body uses fat and muscle in a non-discriminatory…

So let me start by saying- as big a fan as I am of this site, I do not like the way it calculates the calories available at the bottom of the journal. It is encouraging people to eat back excess workout calories and I think that is a bad recommendation. First, you have to remember that everyone's body is different and this…

Good luck! You can do this. There is a lot of support throughout!

Will be happy to adopt a noob... Down 66 pounds, 18 to go, not my first rodeo...

Take a look at the Polar Loop before you make your final decision; especially if you intend to add a Heart Rate Monitor in the future.

I started taking a magnesium/calcium supplement daily and that seems to have helped a great deal for me. You should probably consult with your physician first. Here is an article to take with you: http://www.livestrong.com/article/520079-calcium-magnesium-sore-muscles/.

Optimum Nutrition. Casein at night before bed and Whey before a workout.

Just like most email and texts, it is very difficult to express things on a message board. Try not to take things too personal. I don't think that most people are intentionally trying to be hurtful or offensive. Most of what is being said is painfully accurate, the only way to lose weight is to make have your calories in…

I'm not sure which brand HRM you have but most of them have an online app that does all the work for you. I have a Polar H7 chest strap which syncs with my Polar Loop arm band. At the end of a work out, I tether it to my lap top or let it blue tooth sync with my cell phone and I can look at the heart rate data for the…

I think this is a great idea as well and I am very interested in helping any Noob on their journey. I am a 50 year old married grandfather (young one) of a 3 year old. I have lost 80+ pounds and used MFP almost exclusively. I have tried a number of things along the way and I feel like I can offer a lot of help and advice.…
