  • Welcome to the party. :)
  • Just take the transmitter off, stuff the strap into a pillow case, tie off the pillow case with a lose knot & throw it in the laundry. When it's done, just pull it out of the pillow case & let it air dry. I gather you can also buy a mesh lingerie laundry bag, like this, but the pillow case works:…
  • For me, it's less about whether home-roasting would be more cost-effective, and more about the fact that I'd want to buy 6 tons of different green coffees & roast all of them 25 ways to Sunday. I tend to get a little nuts with new toys. ;-) And yeah, my wife's already picked up the good coffee habit. :)
  • Yeah, I've experimented, but I can't really get the roast quality with the low-smoke home roasters that I get from the places that I buy. With that said, I'll admit that it's been a while, and I think things have improved since I last tried it. Plus, it could just be that I suck at roasting coffee. :) Regardless, I…
  • That's true, but roasting coffee *really* well can be smokey as all h___, and there's coffee out there that you can't really buy green. I settle for balancing the economy with a love of variety. ;-)
  • I'm risking a religious war here, I know, but... Storing whole bean coffee in the freezer should be fine, if it's vacuum sealed. What you want to avoid is a lot of trips from freezer to counter & back. So, if you buy vacuum packed beans in bulk and want to store a few pounds in the freezer, go for it. Once you open the…
  • If you're worried about it, figure out the calories of the marinade by total weight, then weigh what you don't use to figure out what to include.
  • You should be able to just use Zombies, Run! and Endomondo at the same time. I've done that with Digifit and RunMeter.
  • If you've got MFP and Fitbit synced, then the activity level on MFP shouldn't really matter much (although -- if you're not using sedentary -- then, personally, I think you should definitely enable the negative adjustment in your profile settings, just in case you're not as active as you're thinking). MFP calcs the…
  • I haven't cut much of anything out, and god forbid, certainly not beer. :-) I just try to stick to my calorie goals & macros, although I don't always count beer carbs -- mostly because I'm too lazy to figure it out & most alcohol entries in the MFP database are just calories & no carb info.
  • I've gone through a handful that were pre-made, but usually end up tweaking them to match my own equipment & schedule.
  • Yep, I've used that setup, Aria included. Link Digifit <-> Fitbit <-> MFP. As long as it's a serial connection, you shouldn't get duplicates.: And yeah... MFP's better for the diet journal than Fitbit. Once you've got it linked up, the meal totals will sync back to Fitbit, but I don't really use that piece too much. You…
  • RunMeter (for outdoor runs), exported to Endomondo iSmoothRun (for treadmill / elliptical), exported to Endomondo Endomondo (for pulling exercise data into Fitbit) Fitbit (for activity calorie adjustments into MFP) Zombies, Run! Jefit (for tracking weight-lifting) TrendWeight (really a web-site) Seconds Pro (for interval…
  • If you like tuna, you can mix a can of tuna with 1/2 cup of egg beaters or a couple of scrambled eggs, 1.5 tbsp of mayo, some pickles or hot peppers, and some cilantro or parsley. Add a tsp or so of the pickle / pepper juice for flavor. With egg beaters the whole thing will run about 255 calories, 3g carbs, 6g fat, and 45g…
  • Someone else mentioned it briefly above, but you might look into a foam roller. I had a calf pull that kept nagging at me, but using one of these before & after runs worked miracles: http://www.amazon.com/Trigger-Point-Performance-Revolutionary-Roller/dp/B0040EGNIU There are other options out there, and some are quite a…
  • I've been through all of the missions now, including the supply runs. Waiting for Zombies, Run! 2 -- due sometime this spring , although they haven't provided an exact date. I'm cycling through the the supply runs while I wait. :) In general, I love the app... Definitely fun. A couple of things... 1. It will only work with…
  • I use Seconds Pro for intervals, and Digifit for workout tracking with a bluetooth HRM. I like Digifit because you can purchase cardio assessments & customized workouts (including intervals) as in-app purchases. The assessments mean that you can determine your personalized heart rate zones, which are used for calorie burn…
  • re: simulating the road on a treadmill, interesting read here: http://www.hillrunner.com/jim2/id110.html ... now, really off to lunch.
  • ha! I'm outside Boston, so I know what you mean. I actually do most of my running on a treadmill though... Easier on my knees. ;-) For the HRM, check out Polar. I use the H7 (bluetooth) connected to my iPhone, but they have a lot of good options & some of them are pretty affordable. Back to actually getting my lunch on my…
  • By the way, if the workout really is listing degrees, then go here to convert: http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/slope-degrees-gradient-grade-d_1562.html ... but, running consistently at a 5-10% incline suuuuucks. :)
  • Usually the 3.0 to 6.0 means 3% to 6%. When you're talking incline for a treadmill, it's usually listed in percentages. A lot of treadmills will default to 1-1.5% incline to better simulate road-resistance. You can check yours with a level to see where it starts.
  • Yes. I'm at the sweater + fleece stage pretty much all the time. Friggin' ridiculous. =/
  • I'd say just hit a good running store & have them perform a gait analysis. They should be able to put you into something that'll work, and getting the running fit right will probably be the most important piece. ... and congrats on earning your reward. ;-)
  • Agreed... I love my TG, and Muggsmagee's analysis (above) is spot on as well. It's still an expensive piece of equipment, and there tend to be a lot of them on Craigslist, so ... shop around. :) Like folks have said, if your workouts are effective and you continue to gain strength, it's pretty easy to out-grow the TG in…
  • Definitely. That seems to be more true for most electronic scales that for traditional scales, although some are a lot more forgiving than others.
  • Good advice, on both counts. :) To guesstimate beer calories, look at the ABV (Alcohol by Volume). As a rule of thumb, an IPA will run 5-7% ABV with most towards the higher end of that scale (and a few will be MUCH higher). An average beer of 5% ABV will run you about 150 calories while an average beer of 7% ABV will run a…
  • I've been using one for a few weeks now. No issues so far (knock on wood). The convenience of syncing to MFP is nice & so's having the body fat measurements if you're worried more about building muscle than losing weight.
  • Yeah, it is, just mix more... I'm not sure how that might change "shelf life" though.
  • There are a few others out there that're similar to PB2. Two of the more popular (and that I've tried) are: http://www.bettylousinc.com/products_detail.php?id=287&ref=0 (organic w/ coconut sugar) http://www.fitnutzbutter.com/ (has a sugar free version) ETA: I'd skip the chocolate ... If you want chocolate, just get some…
