You can make adjustments on your Goals page: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/my_goals Carb/Fat/Protein ratio can be set by percentage so, for example, you could go for a Zone diet 40/30/30. Just click the green "Change Goals" button at the bottom and then choose "Custom" on the next page.

I was thinking the same thing, but I just can't seem to make it work. I've gone back a few times, thinking it'd be cool if it worked... But I just can't get past the complete level of suck their web site throws at me. :( Half the activities I do aren't there, tracking weight lifting routines using similar activities is…

Search for "strength" under Cardio activity: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/exercise/add_to_diary?type=cardio It's just a generic placeholder. Or you can search for more specific exercises under Strength activity: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/exercise/add_to_diary?type=strength For example, search for "curl" to see some…

I use Jefit as well, and you've got a couple of options... First, you could add it as a Cardio activity, and search for "Strength training". Why it's listed under Cardio is beyond me, but it's there. A 2nd option is to add it as a custom exercise and work out the calorie burn estimate yourself. A 3rd option is to search…

Biased much? ;-) My point -- which I've really stated a couple of times now, but once more for old time's sake -- is that there are some things that the TG and the like make convenient. For me, most of that boils down to not needing a spotter, not having to swap out plates or keep a bunch of barbells around, and not…

So, a lot of bias towards free weights here... My own perspective is that free weights are quite likely "the best" way to go, but that doesn't mean there aren't other ways. I've got a weight bench in the basement. Plates, bars, bells, the works. I love my free weights. But I don't necessarily love switching out the plates.…

I definitely recommend the Total Gym. Of all the weight/resistance training "stuff" I have, my TG sees the most use. Very easy to use, very easy to adjust, wide variety of exercise, low impact, no spotter required, easy to mix in some cardio... It's like anything else -- you have to be willing to use it, regularly -- but…

As someone already mentioned, try the oven: http://lifehacker.com/5893568/make-better-hard+boiled-eggs-by-baking-them-in-the-oven-not-boiling-them

With a radical change like you've made, I'd expect some ups and down right out of the gate... Water retention & muscle weight will all factor in, and the first few weeks of any sort of diet / lifestyle change can make for some bigger than expected gains & losses. Beyond that, short and long term, you're going to be up and…

Every October we roast the raw seeds from the jack-o-lantern pumpkins. Just wash the seeds, pat them dry, drizzle with some olive oil (or melted butter), salt & pepper them a bit, and roast on a cookie sheet at ~350F to 375F until they start to brown, stirring them around every 10m or so. It usually takes 20-30m, depending…

Fitbit's a bit more than a pedometer. The website provides meal/calorie tracking, but that's redundant if you're using MFP. Beyond the MFP meal/calorie tracking, Fitbit also estimates stairs climbed, but it's based on an altimeter, not really "steps up a staircase." It's always been pretty accurate in buildings... Just be…

If you're really looking for something to give you calorie burn estimates from aerobic exercise, then go with the HRM. If you're just looking for tracking general activity level, including walking exercise, I'd go with the Fitbit. :)
-
They're really two different things. Fitbit is good for tracking general activity level throughout the day. The HRM is good for tracking your heart rate during aerobic exercise. Both provide calorie burn estimates, but the HRM will factor in effort, and will probably be more accurate for anything other than "casual"…

this might be helpful: http://gizmodo.com/5904875/the-best-headphones-for-running Sennheiser and Shure audio quality's typically top-notch btw...

Worth it probably depends on what you're after. :) I'd search the boards for 'fitbit' ... There are a lot of threads out there about them. I've had one for a few months & I think it's worth it. It works very well for walking / jogging / running type exercises and for tracking general activity level. With that said, If you…

HRM = Heart Rate Monitor, but that's not going to give you an accurate calorie count for strength training unless you're doing a cardio circuit of some sort (low weight, high rep, no rest). One way to estimate calories outside MFP and w/out an HRM is the Compendium of Physical Activities. I've created a Google Docs…

I haven't had any problems with mine recording steps during a 1.5 hour commute in stop & go traffic. It might add a step here and there, but nothing that doesn't get drowned out by the total volume of daily steps. I guess it might depend on how bumpy your ride is and how smooth your suspension is. :) It's been hinted at in…

Might want to check out http://jog.fm ... It'll ID music by BPM/pace and, if you happen to use Spotify, you can use jog.fm to create playlists & then import them into Spotify.

A little bit off-topic, but you might want to look at a Total Gym if you're considering paying for a new Bowflex. Personally, I think it provides a better variety of exercises and makes it easier to mix some cardio into your workouts. I think the base model's "always on sale" price is $100-200 above the base model Bowflex:…

This question (much like the "are all sugars the same" question) seems to bring out the religion in people on these forums. ;-) In any case, there's quite a bit of talk & research out there about whether "a calorie is a calorie is a calorie" when it comes to the way your body handles the calories in question. Here's some…

From another thread, here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/619368-too-much-sugar Without getting into the religious war over what is and is not sugar and what is and is not wrong with processed foods... Personally, I think what you outline above is why it's more important to focus on your total carb…

Without getting into the religious war over what is and is not sugar and what is and is not wrong with processed foods... Personally, I think what you outline above is why it's more important to focus on your total carb goals and think of the sugar goal as "added sugar". Unfortunately, "added sugar" is really…
