Pamdar67, I’ve been retired for at least 10 years and I know that it is difficult to get yourself up and moving. And it gets harder the longer you wait to start moving. I joined a Silver Sneakers program for awhile which helped motivate me. I try to make sure I walk 4-5 days a week and today I pulled out my 2lb dumb bells.…

I, too, am a daily logger. I don't know about percentages, but I do know that I was a half pound away from being obese (according to the doctor) and immediately made a change. Within 12 months, I was told that I was at a healthy weight. I've bee maintaing for about a year. This past summer, something happened to my…

My husband bought me a little canned air horn (I'm not sure exactly what it's called). We have deer, coyote, fox, possum, etc., in our area and the noise scares them off. Might do the same for an attacker and your neighbors would hear the noise and be alerted that something was wrong.

Hi, I'm 64 and joined in April of 2012 when I was told I needed to drop 20 lbs. I've dropped 15 of them and still working on the rest. Also have a wheat allergy and have to give up anything made with wheat flour--I think that helped me lose some of the weight. That is until I discovered some wonderful gluten free deserts…

I have had Candida, along with many other yeast issues in the past; not so much since I turned 60. I'm planning to start tracking weather, moods, allergic reactions and such after the grandkids go home and life settles down. Right now there doesn't seem to be time to do anything except log my food and move on to the next…

Thanks for all the advice and ideas/suggestions. I know it is not a corn allergy because I can eat corn flakes without a problem. I've never made the connection between high pollen days and reactions to the foods I eat and I will have to check that out because it doesn't happen all the time. It could be some sort of…

My suggestion would be to go cold turkey. Eliminate the foods you think are giving you problems and after a month add them back in one at a time for a week or two and see what happens. If you have a reaction of some sort to that food, then remove it again. I think that's what works best. I know that going gluten free made…

I've had ringing in my ears for most of my life and it was diagnosed as tinnitus. Nothing food/sugar substitute was ever mentioned even during all my research into the subject. Anyway, I had to give up diet sodas and anything else containing aspartame recently because of an allergy. I am a Truvia/Stevia user now.

OK, here is another long time sufferer who is allergic to wheat--not life threatening. I am 63 years old and can never remember sleeping peacefully through the night unless I used some kind of cough suppressant. I had asthma, but was not treated for it. I also had many upper respiratory issues. My mom was told that I was…

Can you post that recipe or send it to me, please. Thanks

I just discovered dried apricots from Sunsweet, but I also like almonds, air popped popcorn.

I ride on the back of my husband's 2009 Bandit. The Bandit is very high and I'm very short, so it was a challenge for me to get on the back until I lost 20 lbs and started stretching. He also has an old Suzuki and an older Triumph, although both need work. I love riding on the back of the bike with him.

I am aware that aspertame is in many foods. No more diet anything for me and I will be checking all foods that say they are low-fat or non-fat because they, too, might contain it. Thanks for your input, I find it very helpful.

I've never considered dairy, mostly because I do eat much of it. But I will consider it now and keep careful watch. It seems that since I gave up wheat, I'm discovering that other foods might also be causing my continuing problems. Although the sinus problem might be genetic because I had an aunt that had the same problem.…

I agree and 2nd that you must go to Willet's Tower (I think that's the new name for the Sears Tower), Museum of Contemporary Art, Art Institute, and eat at Ed Debevic's. It's the wrong time of year for a scenic boat ride, but there might still be ice skating somewhere in the Loop. Most of things I did growing up are closed…

I felt like that for a long time when I went gluten free. It does pass. Now my obsession is eating healthy (which I really have trouble with) and getting stronger with exercise. But these are all good things to think about. I feel sorry that you are allergic to chocolate, I don't know what I'd do if I had to give that up…

Everyone reacts differently after eating gluten unknowingly. My symptoms--coughing--usually turns up within 24 hours. But it does sound like the restaurants are having some kind of effect on you. It could be your body reacting to food that you are not cooking and it is prepared differently than usual. Could be as simple as…

I did WW for about 4 years and lost some weight, but it took a very long time. I had a hard time counting points and really didn't like the system. I'm doing much better counting calories with MFP. My suggestion would be to talk to your group leader if you are going to meetings or check in at a WW website for assistance.…

That's it! We love it that way.

I love Crunchmaster -- mostly the crackers with roasted garlic and sea salt & the flatbread with rosemary and sea salt. They're awesome! I get them at Costco. Also, love Skinny Pop Popcorn that I get I Costco. Must agree with the Dark Chocolate, too. Dove Promises are the best because I can control, 1-5 pieces, how many I…

Udi's makes a wonderful muligrain sandwich bread; I also love their cinnamon raisin bread in the morning. Glutino does a fair job on bread, too. Since I was a "breadaholic" the bread part has been the hardest. If you're into baking, Bob's Red Mill has a bread mix that's not bad, too. Good luck.

I love Udi's products. Sometimes my favorites are hard to find, but so far, everything from Udi is great. I have found Glutino to vary on flavor from product to product, but still good for the most part.

I saw something on FB this morning, but ignored it. I'll to go back and look at it more closely. Thanks.

I, too, have a wheat allergy, but mine comes in the form of a bad cough or asthma. I have been (or tried to be) wheat free since April 2012. For years I couldn't lay down flat to sleep at night because of a severe cough. My mother used to coat me with Vicks when it got so bad it was disturbing everyone else. I do know that…

You shouldn't be forced to have an open diary--it's your tracking system, not theirs. MFP is supposed to be about support and encouragement, not criticism. You have to do what works for you and remember that.

The Trader Joe's here in Northern Illinois area sometimes has the ryeless bread and sometimes doesn't. I've heard the same song and dance about the regional distribution which I find very annoying. I'm getting ready to start hounding store managers to order more gluten free products like Udi's. It seems like none of the…

Personally, I would start today. But if you want to wait I would follow the people's advice that said to use the next few days to come up with a plan and stock up on healthy food and find some healthy recipes. The other thing you should do is decide how you're going to burn calories and that could be tough if you're still…

Weight Watchers used to say that half your coffee or tea could be counted as water. During the winter, I'd never drink near enough water if I couldn't count my coffee and tea, especially in the winter.

My go-to breakfast is usually yogurt and a gf toast with butter. Dinner with hubby is our big meal generally with meat, chicken or fish, a veggie and potato or rice. It's lunch that is difficult for me. I've tried cheese and crackers, beef summer sausage, eggs, sometimes even leftovers--but I can't seem to come up with…

I had forgotten about Trader Joe's. Thanks for the reminder.
