I don't have direct experience with Levemir as I'm on a pump. From my days of MDI w/NPH it seems odd to me that you have to take 10 units of rapid acting after awakening to keep your glucose levels in range. I don't know if Levemir has peeks and valleys the way NPH did, but if it does that could explain the 10 unit…

WTG everybody! Did W5D2 this morning... felt pretty good, a couple of low spots but powered through. Beautiful morning, 68 degrees w/93% rel humiidy. Ironically my second run started in front of the local Krispy Kreme, I thought I could smell the raspberry filling, lol. Getting psyched about D3, not sure how I'm going to…

WTG, that is Awesome! Did not realize you were in Ft Worth. With the temps in the80s and humidity, you should be doubly proud. Glad it went well and thanks for blazing an inspiring trail for the rest of us. BTW, I grew up in Irving and graduated from UT Arlington. I've been away for some time, but I still miss it. When I…

I was thinking W5D1 wasn't going to be that tough, but it was challenging. Don't know if it was the 95% humidity (although a relatively cool 68 degrees) or the fact that the second leg was uphill. I guess the important thing is I did it and on to D2. @classsictoaster, et al - keep us posted on your progress, it's helpful…

As Hernando Cortez said, 'Burn the ships'... there is no going back! Find a good tailor and see what clothes can be altered. I used to be in the textile business and many time clothes don't look right if a lot of alteration has to be done -- pockets etc. are out of proportion. If they can't be salvaged, donate them to good…

Congratulations to you and keep up the good work! It's amazing how quickly the body adapts.

Moved from Irving TX. There was a little Italian place there called Angelo's, had some of the best lasagna I've eaten. Just a great little casual place, with great food. After a hard day of working in the yard, you could catch a quick shower, throw on some shorts and a tee and be good for dinner. Even now, 20+ years later,…

Excellent post! I grew up in TX and used to run after dark by the streetlights. A couple of times I ran mid-day in the woods along a shaded trail, but quickly found it was still just too hot! Now I live in East TN and try to be out the door by 6:15a even though it is not quite as bad here (and I'm a good bit older), just…

Sounds like an extra rest day may be in order for you both. I'm just completed W4D2, but I see that 20 minute run coming around the bend. I'm trying to prepare a little as I did an extra 3 minute run today after cool down and additional brisk walk. You are on the last third of this thing, so definitely listen to your…

I found these exercises to be particularly helpful. I found the Single Leg Dips really help strengthen my knees and keep me running. http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=A00564

Just did D1 this morning. Temp was only 70 degrees but 97% humidity. Whew, I did a fair amount of sweating! Run segments 2 & 3 were on a long slow uphill and were tough. Run segment 4 was downhill and a nice change. Overall I felt good, especially looking back on it! I'm thinking (hoping) humidity won't be so much of a…

Kudos to you! This is coming up the end of next week for me and I'm apprehensive, but think I will be ready. You give me inspiration.

We're at the exact same place, W4D1. Not sure what your geolocation is but it was 70 degrees with 97% humidity here this morning. I sweat like crazy. (I know, 70 isn't really hot.), I'm guessing you had a little dehydration and maybe a little over exertion, I admit those 5 min stretches were challenging and there wasn't…

Way to Go!

I'll be on W3D3 tomorrow, but see W5D3 in the distance and am a little wary myself. There is a big jump between W5D2 and W5D3. Have you thought about inserting your own runs in between? After your 8r-5w-8r, why not 9r-5w-7r or even 9r-5w-9r then 10r-5w-6r (or 10r-5w-10r), etc? I think by being creative and easing in to D3…

Ran my W3D2 today as well. Thanks for the encouragement!

1. What Week/Day are you on? W3D2 2. How do you feel? Good, I'm closely monitoring my pace so I can keep going. (Slowing down helps my knee.) 3. Have you had to repeat a week or day? Not yet, but I'm concerned about W5D3 where it calls for a 20 minute run. 4. Did you add time or remove time from one of your runs? I always…

Looks like several of us are at approximately the same place. I did W3D1 today and felt good. I think I'm going to feel real progress at W5D3 w/that 20 minute run. If I can do that w/out anything breaking (left knee in particular) I think the rest will be a piece of cake.
-
Awesome, good for you! We can do this thing!
-
Just touching base here. Finished W3D1 and did both 3 min segments. The second, as you would guess was tougher and as luck would have it, started uphill. Ran the first 3 min segment at 11:41 pace the second at 11:50. Good luck to you!

I am at exactly the same point as I just finished W2D3 today. I think I can handle the 3 minute stretches.... at least the first one, the second one may be tougher. I was analyzing the program earlier and week 4 is where I become apprehensive. For 3 weeks they've had us running 9 minutes per session (just broke it up…

Finished W2D2 of C25K and my knee feels fine. Discovered some great knee strengthing exercises: http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=A00564

I for one wish I had to reschedule due to rain. It's very dry here (East TN). I'm did W2D2 today and just keep plugging away. Kudos to you on passing the bar and your progress on C25K.

We men can be pretty dumb. Haven't met a guy yet that doesn't like his wife/girlfriend to be his arm candy and yet sometimes we stand it the way. I bet down deep he admires what you're doing and probably feels like he should join in, just hasn't got up the motivation yet. You've gotten a lot of good suggestions on this…

Wow, that IS a low carb diet. I try to keep mine below 120, but was just looking over my last several days and noticed I was over, especially on the weekend. I have type 1 diabetes, so it really helps me to keep the carbs down as well. I just started W2 today and felt fine. I'm really focused on keeping a slow pace, 11mm…

I just finished W1D3 and I think I'm going to do this ^^^, but for different reasons. On D2 I noticed a tinge in my knee from an old knee aggravation. Was running at about a 10mm pace and live in East TN where we have a lot of hills. This morning I slowed it down to a 11mm pace (on a couple of segments even more) and my…

Thanks for the great tips everyone. I did W1D2 today and can already feel a twinge in my left knee. I will definitely slow down on Friday. and see if I can strengthen the knee and keep going. I really want this to work.

Yes, don't give up. As someone previously said, 'eat less, move more'. I've lost 15 lbs in 13 weeks and started the C25K yesterday. It works. The best is yet to come.
