  • Hey Sera, I don't have the problems w/lows that I used to, but if it gets to be a problem I start reducing my basal rate. Last Tuesday I worked out hard after work and was plagued with lows Wednesday during our office move (much more activity than I usually incur at the office), so I backed off my basal rate .2 and it…
  • After almost 30 years of marriage let me say that the closer aligned your goals, the happier you will be. Health and fitness are not the top items, but certainly near the top of the list. You will have to decide if this is a deal breaker for the relationship. People can change, but generally don't. What you see now, is…
  • Take a drink of water and a deep breath, you've got this!
  • Grew up in the 'burbs of Dallas. I really like the pointed toes best - #3 is my favorite of the options. My wife had a pair like #3 only w/a lower top. Loved the look of those w/a jean skirt! I have two pairs myself, one more rounded, one pointed. I used to like the rounded best, now the pointed are my favorites. Guess I…
  • I take 22.2 units in basal and generally somewhere between 12 and 20 units a day with bolusing. A good average would be 40 units/day.
  • ^^^ this. When I was back in school I recorded my difficult classes. Time on the treadmill or elliptical is a great way to review the material and meet your exercise goals.

  • I'm 54 for a couple more weeks. :/ I've lost 15 lbs, need to lose about 10 more. I welcome friends, especially in this age group.
  • I'm wrestling w/shin splints off and on myself. I'm on W8D1 and have at least temporarily gotten over them. I iced my shins several times a day and I stretched like crazy. Sitting on my legs and and leaning back for 30 seconds to 1 minute at a time really helped. If I understand the condition correctly I don't see how…
  • Definitely test them out for an extended ride or two... the only recumbent I was ever on made my upper hamstrings cramp. Good luck!
  • I lost a pound a week for 15 weeks... then plateaued!!
  • I'm not but my wife is! Absolutely beautiful state, doesn't get much better than the drive from Wytheville, VA to Beckley. Oh and don't forget about Bridge Day, one of these days we'll actually make it, but no BASE jumping for me only spectating. Yes, go Mountaineers -- let's burn some couches!!!
  • I bow to your accomplishment, great job!!
  • Kudos to you!! I should be in a similar situation in a little over 2 weeks (W7D2 tomorrow).
  • So how's it going? I had a short but steep hill make me drop back to a walk this morning, but for only a couple of minutes. I'll be back w/a vengeance on Wednesday.
  • Just did W7D1 and yes, I've picked up a little weight too. I'm at the top end of a 'healthy' BMI and in much better shape, but would still like to see the scale go down another 10 lbs. Since starting the C25K pgm I've added crunches, push-ups and cycling and I'm up 3-4 lbs over my low weight. I'm secretly hoping this is…
  • I will add my voice to the others and say stay w/the program. Injuries occur when you move ahead too fast. While you're gradually incrementing your time running, your bones, tendons, joints, etc. are also getting accustomed to a new level of usage. I quit running years ago because of just this situation, I attempted to…
  • Kudos to you!! I do W7D1 Monday and don't think it will be a problem. Haven't run this long in years. We are becoming runners! Woot!

  • Let me triple echo the C25K program. I'm a lot older than you and I ran 23 minutes yesterday, will do 25 on Monday. The program will push you, but after you've done it a few weeks you'll look back and wonder why 5 minutes or 8 minutes or whatever was a big deal. Go for it, you can do it!
  • I try not to suspend my pump (unless it is an absolute emergency) as it leaves 'gaps' in my coverage. Is it possible that these suspensions are causing your spikes? When you got back to work your glucose seemed to be ok (106 mg/dl) but spiked later after the yogurt. I'm guessing you gave a bolus for the yogurt, but the gap…
  • Stiff calves! Regardless of how much I stretch seems like they are right back to guitar strings shortly after a run.
  • I'm guessing you have Type 1. If so, try reducing your insulin a little. When I first started MFP I had the same problem. I reduced my basal rate twice and it took care of the problem.
  • Congratulations! We knew you could do it!

  • @MrsBrdlv - You can do it. Go a little slower than usual (I dropped back a full minute per mile) and breath deep and even. You will be so elated when you finish. Good luck!

  • I had a 'weak' knee (sorry, that's the best way I can describe it) from running many years ago. Actually thought I was done w/running, but I found some exercises via google and they seem to be working. Doing W6D2 in the morning. I'm still trying to be careful and run 'lightly', but I'm still in the game. Best of luck to…
  • You got a lot of good advice here Susannah. I did W5D3 Saturday and It was challenging. (I can definitely tell I'm not in my 20's anymore.) Anyway, I think the main thing is to sloooow down. I ran it almost a full minute per mile slower than my normal pace. I focused on breathing deep and evenly. Everyone's right, don't…
  • Just did W6D1 and it wasn't any worse than normal. I was back home on my regular route which has a lot of uphill grade to it. Wish I could find a more flat route, that's probably not possible here in East Tennessee. Yes, my legs were a little tired from W5D3, but I made it nonetheless. You guys can do this thing!

  • Did W5D3 yesterday, no pain but I can definitely tell my legs are tired. Was scheduled to run it on Friday, but had an early morning trip so it had to wait till Saturday therefore no 2 day rest period as I had hoped. Really need to get back on schedule, so will just take it slow tomorrow. Lots of times I feel better once I…
