I used old sneakers but I wrapped them with duck take around my foot so they would not come off in the mud. When going through mud pits the weight of the shoe increase and so does the liklyhood of the shoes coming off your feet.

I think that if you are hungry and you exerciesed you shpuld eat your extra caloires. Eat them with high protein foods (chicken, eggs, protein shake, cottage cheese) If you are not hungry just save those calores and give yourself a pat on the back. I hope that your first spin class went well, they can be brutal. You might want to invest in cycle shorts if you are going to continue to go, it will help you lady parts to not hurt so badly. Also you might want some clip shoes for more power on the bike.
