Here is an excerpt from Mark Sisson's blog about Paleo for athletes. The entire article can be read at the link provided. There are many good resources for athletes at Mark's Daily Apple. Hope this helps! "Right after a long training session or race, you’re in a critical period for glycogen refueling. That first hour…

Have you tried going to the college's workout center? They often have a list of exercises to do for a complete workout. You can also sign up for a gym class and get credit for the workout! My college offers a variety of classes from Zumba, yoga, and weight training, to martial arts and kick boxing. You can also join one of…

Are you close to the GLNB? My husband went through basic there.

Why do you feel like you have to resort to fast food? You can eat nuts and cheese which are calorie dense and just a few ounces provides a healthy caloric intake. Listening to your body is important, but 135 net calories is not sustainable in the long run. WIthout baing able to see your diary, I can't provide more feedback…

I was used to not getting noticed so when attention on me shifted and people started noticing I had to learn to accept the comments with a thank you. When people asked how I lost weight that was more difficult. How do you sum up everything you did to get the results you want? I finally settled on the patented answer, "Oh,…

I have done child care for 15 years and I made no distinction in "girl" or "boy" toys. The kids were free to play as their imaginations allowed them. Boys who play with dolls is a wonderful thing to see. They are acting out the nurturing they get in the home and are practicing social skills. At his age it is perfectly fine…

I have my account set for sedentary and I log everything. When I first started on MFP, I knew next to nothing about how my body reacted to certain foods, and how it reacted to exercise. I set it to sedentary so I could log all my exercise. I also found that by logging my exercise, I tended to be more faithful in doing it.…

I tend to listen to music as I ice skate, so a lot of my music is instrumental: David Garrett, Blue Man Group, Yanni, Soundtracks like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean..

Well said. I have a body mass composition scale and I love it. I have weighed the same for the past month, but my body composition has changed. My BF% is down and my LBM is up. I can notice the difference in the way my clothes fit as well. Just like knowing that my overal cholesterol is down, it is just as important to…

I got rid of mine right away. I am never going back! As I got out of one, I gave to a women's shelter or goodwill.

I am 5'6" and currently weigh 144. When I started, at 215 I wanted a goal of 140. That currently puts me at a 34% BF. I would like to get down to a 25% BF. I am guessing that I need to drop down to about 125 to 130 and then build more LBM for that to happen. I think weight is not necessarily the best gauge. BF% seems to…

9 stone 7pounds is 120 pounds. At 5'6", you are just at the lower limit of your weight recommendations. If you are still unhappy with your body composition, try weight training to tone up a bit.

How about a berry and egg dish? There is one that is on my blog that is like a souffle. Choose fruit that is in season and follow the directions. It is very light and the texture is more airy than a pancake.

I have never had a bad recipe from the Everyday Paleo Family Cookbook, or from the Primal Cookbook. Borth are great for beginners and I like the color photographs!

The rule is .7 to 1g of protein per pound of lean body mass. To determine your lean body mass, multiply your total weight by your body fat %, then subtract that number from your total weight. If you are a competing athlete, you will want to go slightly above this range, if you have low-activity, then stick close to the .7.

Right now I am at 34% body fat and I would like to get that down to 20-25%. Whatever weight that happens to be at, will be my weight! I am guessing that at 130 pounds for a 5'5 lady in her 40's will get me to that percentage. If I have to go lower I will. When I started this journey, I was at 215 pounds. Now I am at 142. I…

Get yourself a good primal/paleo cookbook. Not paying attention to the science behind the diet, just know that the diet has no grain, legume and sugar, so all the recipes are very low on the glycemic index. There are some very tasty recipes and I have been using it for over a year and have great results. My carb intake is…

Full fat plain yoghurt, Pumpkin seeds, most starchy veggies like butternut squash, or spaghetti squash. Spaghetti squash is a great gluten free option. Dice up and stew some of those vine ripe tomatos and enjoy! Salmon and other oily fish will up your calories as well. Add cheese, make creative use of eggs, and invest in a…

I have a niece who is so solid, you would think she were made of metal if you solely based on weight. She is solid muscle with appropriate fat layer for a girl her age. She is also very tall, the tallest in her school, athletic, intelligent and a brickhouse! She is not fat, and she has always been high on the charts from…
