  • It goes both ways for me, but usually I eat, then log... often, I try to log AS I am eating, lol.
  • Plain yogurt is pretty good as a mayo-replacement (regular or greek) You could also try some more classic flavors of hummus :)
  • Yes ): I spent a decent amount of time cooking up a rice and beans dish along with a side salad for dinner today, but I ran out of my usual dressing and all this shiz, so it just didn't taste that good. Sucks because afterwards I still went and grabbed some chocolate. Lol.
  • I haven't tried the Lightlife veggie burgers yet, but I do have a good feeling about the brand because I love their vegan deli slices :) My favorite veggie burger brand would probably be the Dr. Prageur's California Veggie Burger- super tasty; I think you can get them at Trader Joes. Boca brand burgers would have to be a…
  • Lol thanks for the warning! As I was reading the title I thought "hmm.. but it must taste disgusting" and that's exactly what you said :p
  • Lol, same
  • You will be fine if you eat it one time and don't make a habit out of it.. Since you are specifically craving it, just eat it slowly and allow the meal to satisfy your craving, rather than intensify it. McDonalds isn't the healthiest thing for you, but I laugh at the people who act like it's the worst thing ever and then…
  • Recently, I've been having organic unsweetened soymilk with my breakfast every day. A lot of protein :) Some nondairy breakfast examples are: Steel cut oats with 1 tbsp organic peanut butter and a banana, along with 1 cup soymilk (17 grams of protein) 2 slices of ezekiel bread with 1 tbsp dark chocolate dreams pb and 1 cup…
  • According to MFP, my BMR is 1,187. My daily calorie goal used to be 1200 until I started going over all the time because my appetite became seemingly insatiable. :/ and the red numbers kept flashing by. So I just changed it to "maintenance" and now it's 1480.. hopefully I'll be eating/netting under that most days though.
  • They're worth it to me, because I have the mindset that more natural, whole foods = healthier. So while nuts may have more calories and fat than a processed bag of 100-calorie cookies or something, I don't feel bad about it and it keeps me fuller longer. Also, I'm not getting a bunch of empty carbs or putting anything…

  • There are definitely good things that come out of dairy, such as calcium and Vitamin D. However, there are many other real-food alternatives that allow you to get the same nutrients. For example, almond milk has twice the calcium of cow's milk and soymilk has about the same. There are also soy and coconut yogurts out there…
  • This is an issue that's interesting to me as well. I carry most of my weight in my thighs, unfortunately, and am super envious of the girls who are more "balanced" in their body composition and can pull off bubble skirts and such.
  • Plain yogurt (regular or greek) can be a good substitute to mayo. Other options are avocado or classic hummus. As far as ketchup goes, I just buy an organic one so at least I don't have to worry about sugar in the form of hfcs.
  • Black sesame candy.. I've been having a piece or two almost every day!
  • Ugh, thighs. Immediately. Lol.
  • The first step for me was that I stopped keeping things with high fructose corn syrup in the house. I like to think of it as the spark that inspired my healthy-eating kick. Then I stopped eating meat and dairy so often. I also stopped letting food control me, and let me control food... a big part of that was definitely…
  • A "friend" of mine would always grab my legs and say things like how tiny they were, just because she saw me choosing healthier food options and I mentioned I was trying to eat healthier. It was obvious she was lying because at that point, I hadn't lost any weight at all. And to add to the irony, she looks thinner than me…
  • Yess, this thread is alive again I already posted this in another thread, but here's what I had for lunch today: Spicy tofu, shredded stirfry potatoes, seasoned eggplant with tomato, and some bok choy.. threw all this into a giant plate along with some brown rice. White peach for dessert :)
  • Trader Joes has really started to grow on me in the last few months. It's hard to narrow down my favorites to just a few, but I'll try anyway: -Soy Creamy ice cream sandwiches- 90 calories each, so delicious. Only problem is, it's hard to stop eating them! -Organic creamy unsalted peanut butter -Dried fruits, particularly…
  • It works really well for some people, but not for others. I tried low-carb for a while, but was cranky all day and hated the fact that I "had" to fit in so much protein. I think low-carb is suitable for muscle development, though. Now I just try to limit my refined carbs, and stick to things such as steel cut oats, brown…
  • Unfortunately, there's been pro-ana and thinspo sites around ever since the internet was around. Before tumblr, it was livejournal, and before that, it was xanga. I think it's easy for people to get caught up in anything they see as a fad, especially if they're young. Eating disorders are serious, but then there are people…
  • Lol that's what my mom says too (she's been vegan for over 10 years), but I believe almond milk is a good source of calcium- it has twice the amount as milk. And calcium is one of those things that are harder to get on a vegan diet. I guess it's an acquired taste after reading some opinions here on MFP, though. It's good…
  • For on-the-go snacks, fruit is always great. Apart from that, I like to get roasted or fresh edamame. As far as more packaged things go, my current favorites are: -Pure Organic bars (I usually have 1/2 at a time to consider them snacks) -Kashi crackers -Veggie sticks -Greek yogurt or soy yogurt -Dried fruit, especially the…
  • I'm currently loving Cascadian Farms Cinnamon Crunch :) Pretty sugary, but so good.
  • When I started bumping into things with my hipbones and couldn't sit back in a wooden chair because I could feel it all the way against my spine. Lol, bittersweet..
  • Lol I just had a huge breakfast. But I don't feel too bad, considering it's breakfast and all.. I had: Toasted ezekiel bread with organic pb and organic fruit spread A glass of almond milk Oat Revolution- peaches and cream flavor A white peach to go along with the oatmeal And 4 loacker quadratini cappucino squares.. Edit:…
  • A lot of meat replacement products are pretty low-cal and high protein. My favorite is the Lightlife Bologna Style Deli Slices. 4 slices have 70 calories, 0 grams of fat, 0 grams of sugar, and about 13 grams of protein if I remember correctly. Also, ezekiel bread is surprisingly highish (to me) in protein too- 4 grams per…
  • I always try to log all my binges, even if I have to estimate on a few things because I'm usually too caught up in the moment to bother to track how much I'm eating... For instance, today I was faced by a edible art project consisting of boxes upon boxes of chocolates, twizzlers, fruit candies, and rice krispies.. I wasn't…
  • When I tried to diet in the past, I thought that super lowcal bread was the healthiest choice. Like, Sara Lee's 45 calories & delightful crap, even though it was full of high fructose corn syrup and other processed ingredients. I thought brands like Skinny Cow and Special K and Dannon or Yoplait yogurt was healthy... but…
  • I prefer the taste of unsweetened almond milk. I like the soymilk my mom makes from scratch (as in, drained from fresh cooked soybeans, or the kind found on Beijing street corners xD ) but the stuff you buy in western grocery stores can't even compare. I don't really like the taste of unsweetened soymilk, but the sweetened…
