  • I have Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction so I know a bit about chronic pain and exercising. I'm lucky in the sense that my SIJD responded pretty well to PT and I'm able to maintain it well just by being consistent in my PT strengtheners, stretching, and massage. There are days that I'm in more pain than others, and flare ups…
  • Speedwork has made a huge difference in my overall speed. I just PR'd my 5K time by almost 6 minutes. Plus the running volume increase and easy run stuff that others have already suggested
  • It may not be a bad idea to check in with your doctor. Bad breath can be more than just oral hygiene issues
  • I did not have any kidney stones. They diagnosed me with muscle spasms in the lower back. So basically rest, pain killers, anti inflammatories, and muscle relaxers. Back pain is debilitating, right now the only thing that I can do without pain is sit and lay down, although I was able to do some light stretching today. I…
  • Thanks! The hardest part of life is getting out of your head about things
  • I too have chafing issues in the inner thighs. Sparkle Skirts are awesome! They sell just the shorts too I believe. But they don't ride up and they have pockets on the sides and in the back.
  • I shampoo and condition on Wednesdays and Sundays every week. The rest of the showers (and sometimes there are multiple in a day depending on when I can squeeze in a workout) is a water only rinse. I do scrub my scalp with my fingers even on water rinse days though. I have thick, dry, curly hair
  • The chobani yogurt is amazing, as is their apple cinnamon flavor. I will admit that i do enjoy the Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks... but that's about the only two things pumpkin spice that i'll go out of my way to get and even that is maybe once a week for the latte while they're in season, and once a year for the…
  • I have Icebugs for snow running. They are amazing! I was able to run on solid ice without slipping at all last year. plus they're water proof and insulated so my feet stay toasty warm. Runnersworld also has a tool on their website to figure out how many layers etc to wear based on the weather conditions.
  • Same as above... although i did have that reaction when I saw a runner running in the middle of the street during a snow storm last year. I mean, its one thing to be dedicated and get it in when you can fit it in, but it's another thing to be completely reckless about it
  • Two things that I would have to say after reading your post.... ok, three. 1) Mindset is a HUGE part of weightloss... and with life in general. The fact that you've already decided that you hate exercise, all kinds and any form is setting you up to be miserable. I mean can you really tell me that you hate EVERY type of…
  • Are you running 8 miles+ every day?? If so, that's an awful lot to put your body through daily. You may be showing signs of overtraining. Make sure you have AT LEAST one rest day per week. And I would scale back running that far to 1-3x per week. The other days you can run shorter distances (throw in speed work, intervals…
  • Is the joint pain only during your workouts? Or is it a constant thing? If it's only during your workouts it may be a form and technique issue. If it's constant then I would get a second opinion from a different doctor. Joints are not something to mess around with
  • First off, congrats on running! 5 miles is an accomplishment! As a runner I've found that for every great run, where you feel like you can run forever i have 2-3 runs that really feel challenging. Some days are an off day, even if you do everything right. That being said there are a couple things that you can take a look…
  • I've run almost all of my mud runs alone. I usually make a friend along the course though, I don't mind talking to people that i don't know. I've never had a problem finding a boost or some help with obstacles if i need one, most people are willing to help and some will even hang out at certain obstacles for a while to…
  • I'm following the Galloway plan for the Disney Marathon. I followed his plan for the Glass Slipper Challenge and had good luck with that. He has you do a long run (this week it was 9 miles), then the following week is a shorter long run (next week is only 5 miles), then it brings you back up to the farther distance (the…
  • Thanks everyone! I think part of the mental block for me is the idea that I will be taking 4+ hours out of a day just for running. I've done races that have taken 7 hours (Bone Frog), I've done trainings that were an entire weekend of 8+ hours. @JoRocka I'll have to embrace the suck I guess!!
  • I don't think there is a rental place around me, and even if there was i'm not sure if that is something that i'd want to do, seems like a lot of hassle for a couple hours on a bike (getting there during business hours can be a challenge for my current schedule) so i think purchasing will probably be the way i go. I don't…
  • I've never broken my leg, but I was sidelines with gluteal tendinopathy last year. I had been working out a lot and was able to consume more calories because of it. I gained a bit of weight back while I was sidelined for 8 weeks since I was still eating like I was training. My suggestion: find out your TDEE using the…
  • Do you typically find the prices from box store to local store are around the same? I was looking to stay around $300 for the bike if possible
  • Thanks! This is helpful!!
  • If you want to talk health benefits, cardio has a good amount of them. you CAN get some of them from heavy lifting, but I'm in the camp of doing a nice combo of both along with stretching and massage. Cardio benefits are as follows: Increase in cardiovascular fitness (endurance and recovery rates) Increase in pulmonary…
  • OK, so I tried watching the first video, made it about 1:30 into it before I had to turn it off. If you read the words on the right of the screen as she's talking she uses phrases like omg, burns me up like a hot pepper in the sahara desert etc. How am I supposed to take your research seriously if you're also trying to…
  • Can you post some pictures? It would help to be able to see your alignment and posture

  • So... question..... He gained weight in the 60 days, ok fine, calorie surplus combined with increased carbs/sodium. But the article (I did not watch the movie... because I'm not particularly interested in investing more time into something that I know isn't really a legit study) stated that he gained weight. It also stated…
  • Just a heads up.... the chafing thing may not go away when you lose the weight. I still chafe all over the place and I only have a couple vanity pounds to lose. I just happen to have sensitive skin so I use a combination of body glide and a talc lotion that turns into powder. I chafe between my butt cheeks when it's…
  • Shrugs in the squat rack are acceptable in my opinion. What drives me batcrap crazy is when someone saves the rack (there are only two in my gym) while they go out and do other things in other parts of the gym. Like seriously?!? I could have jumped in, gotten my three sets of squats and three sets of deadlifts done before…
  • I had never lost a toenail until I bought some sneakers that weren't a good fit for me. But, after spending that much money that I couldn't get back (didn't figure out that they hurt until running a couple times in them) i decided to at least get the miles out of them for my half that was coming up (yes, I know that wasn't…
  • Hmm that's disappointing.... I may still try it just to see lol. I'll have to look around at my running stores, there are a couple in my area, although not particularly close to me.
