Yeah you need to calculate it, but you probably do need to eat more. I eat all the time. Seriously--like every 3-4 hours. If your diet is healthy, you can and should eat frequent small meals (it sounds like that's what you do)--space out your calories over the day. And yeah, eat some protein at every meal.

Wow, dude! You look like a different person! Great job! Way to go! You look great!!

Weight lifting. Weight lifting will absolutely transform the shape of your body. Check out the New Rules. But you do have to go heavy--light weights won't do anything. And, no, you won't necessarily look like a fitness model or get a 6-pack. You'd actually have work really hard to achieve that and be extraordinarily…

This^^^. I used to eat sushi all the time and polish off a couple of large sakes with my husband. All that rice=so many carbs. Most of the fish is fine. I still eat sushi but now we get a sashimi appetizer or two and watch the rolls.

Nope, you can wear it now. Looks great!

Home--I can do my routine whenever I want and don't have to wait to use the equipment. But I have to keep upgrading to heavier weights, and they're not cheap. And I have been slacking in my weight routine for a few weeks so I've had to go back down--that'll buy me some time before I need to spring for the next set.

Fantastic!! Very impressive.

My cat ate half a pound of sliced roast beef, 3 Vietnamese pork dumplings, and a small bowl of spaghetti and meatballs--three different occasions. I'd put him on a diet ,and he really hated the diet cat food I was feeding him. If I ever left ANYTHING out on the kitchen counter and left the room might as well kiss it…

Yep. I routinely got carded until I was in my late 30s--still do on occasion at 42. I'm a college professor and three times this semester I've been asked if I'm a student. I don't look 20--maybe early 30s--so maybe they think I'm a grad student. I'm not complaining--I'll take it!

Great job!!

Yes--but just because I was doing a lot of running. So fitness in terms of cardio but I had to start with 'barbie' weights. If you stay on the program your strength should improve pretty fast. Start at your own pace/level and work up. You don't have to be 'in shape' to do this workout. And I ctually I saw the most gains in…

I've been traveling a lot lately and eating at McDonald's in the airport. I always get the Southwestern salad w/grilled chicken, no dressing (they put some kind of sauce on the chicken so you don't even really need the dressing)=280 calories. I eat this probably twice a week. Sometimes my brain tries to talk me into…

Staying fit in your 40s (and beyond) just takes more discipline. I'm in pretty good shape--I run several times a week and lift weights. But right after I turned 40, I started noticing that I couldn't eat or drink like I did in my 20s and 30s and not gain weight. The main thing I've done is clean up my diet. I still drink…

Big difference! Great job!!

I very rarely weigh. As of right now, I think the last time I weighed was about 4 weeks ago--I'm not sure. But 1) I'm not trying to lose weight; and 2) I go by how my clothes fit--if they start to feel tight and I've been slacking on diet, I reel it in fast. As long as my clothes fit--my skinny clothes!-- that's all I care…

I used to have a sugary yogurt problem: Dannon Activia. Man, I LOVE that stuff. Cherry was my favorite. But I was blowing my entire sugar allotment each morning with just one of those suckers. If it's not a problem and you're meeting your fitness goals, then who cares? I wanted to clean up my diet and add more protein so I…

I'm 42 (almost) and I've seen posts by people my age talking about throwing in the towel. Really?! :noway: I'm hoping to look good from here into my 60s and beyond. Thanks for the inspiration!!

I feel that way too actually. And I know exactly what you mean about walking around feeling slim and then looking in a mirror or seeing a picture and realizing you don't really look like you feel. I didn't have much much to lose, but I still have this belly I'm trying to ditch. I was feeling really good at this concert…

I'm 5'5 and I waiver between 135-140. I'm not trying to lose--just maintain and keep firming up with heavy weights. I worry less about what the scale says and more about how my clothes fit. Right now I'm a size 6. Actually 6 is a little big but I think 4 is too small. I'm aiming for about 20-22% body fat. I was around…

Yep--don't weigh yourself for a while. Wait a few weeks. Keep doing what you're doing. 1) Eat well--lean proteins, complex carbs, healthy fats. Don't eat crap--eat better foods instead of fewer processed food. Agree about the sugar--limit fruits as well. 2) Work out/exercise regularly. Some days I run, some days I lift,…

Add nuts and avocado into your diet--high calorie and nutritious. Salmon is also good for adding in higher calorie healthy proteins. If you're ok with almond milk, Silk makes a bangin' dark chocolate almond milk. 8 oz of that is 120 calories. After I work out I make protein shake with that and 2 TBSP of peanut butter (200…

hahaha! Trying to walk out of class at the same time and strike up a conversation. Ask her what she thought about something you all did in class or what she's writing her first paper about. Tell her you're having a hard time coming up with ideas (whether that's true or not it'll give you something to talk about).

Dumbbells. But I've adapted really quickly. I keep buying heavier and heavier weights but that's getting stupid expensive. Go with the barbell. Avoid the Smith machine.

If she's 50, she knows and she doesn't give a ***t. It's one of the benefits of getting older

I use splenda and 2% milk--probably 1/4 cup or less--so that's about 40-50 calories? I've also done Splenda and almond milk. Almond milk is pretty thick so I think it works well in coffee and that it's even few calories I believe. There's probably also some non-fat flavored creamers you could try.

Hahaha! ^^^ This!! Nice job!! You go, girl!! You look great!

Good point and clarification--if you're within your allotted calories, eating after 9 shouldn't make any difference.

Every 3-4 hours. Workout first thing in the morning or early evening (cardio 1-2 times a week and weight training 2-3 times--different days). Follow weight training with a protein shake and then a meal with a good balance of protein, fat and carbs an hour or so later.
-
Good article. I've started eating more frequently and smaller meals throughout the day. I also started weight training again, which I've done it on and off since I was in my 20s--what a difference that has made in the way my body looks (along with eating enough protein to sustain it). A few things here that are…

The traffic is really, really terrible. I agree--the only worse traffic I've seen is in DC. We spent a lot of money on fixer-upper in an historic neighborhood in the city. Is it worth it? Absolutely. I can be in downtown Atlanta where I work in 5-10 minutes on the subway (MARTA). Our place hasn't depreciated like the…
