What's the deal with belly fat after 40?
And it's harder to get rid of I've noticed. Declining estrogen? Or issues related to getting older? I used gain weight in my lower body--not so much now.

Kettlebell
Just bought a 20lb adjustable kettlebell. It was on clearance, and dumbbells are just so expensive. I work out at home and I need to add some heavier weights to my routine. I'll do some kettlebell exercises with this but mainly I want to use it for weight-lifting. I can do upright rows, squats, probably some careful lunges…

I don't want to be ripped like a man...
Ok--I'm a believer. I read the book and I've been doing the program (mod because I work out at home) since April. I'm seeing some good definition. I am by no means ripped, but I'm really starting to see muscle definition in my arms. Is this a good thing? Yes, of course. This is why I lift and what I'm looking for in terms…

Need to vent a little
I'm a college teacher, and today I finally took a look at my teaching evaluations. There was a really nasty comment that I still need to lose weight. I'm shocked and disgusted and really depressed now all at the same time that someone would write something like that on that type of document. Really? On an evaluation that…

What's your body fat goal?
Took my measurements over the weekend for the first time--yikes! Kind of wish I hadn't. Not really. Now I know. I'm at 26.5%. But that's too high and I've lost some weight. It's is 'normal' though. I'd like to be in the 'Fitness range' of 23 or so. You?

I don't like being in the 40+ category...
like it's a 'special'--uh, oh watch out; it's all over!--kind of deal. (This is kind of a tongue-in-cheek post not a rant. Well, I don't mean for it to be rant). I've been exploring bodybuilding.com--great library of exercises, good nutrition info, I like looking at the pictures. Folks on that site are hard core--they look…

Silly Question about Macros
As you might conclude from my profile picture, my diet is pretty strict. Strict in the sense that I really only eat protein and fat. Very few carbs (I think--at least according to my food bag). Given this, I'm wondering why I'm not leaner. No, I don't lift and I don't do cardio. But I do engage in HITT pretty consistently…

Eating too much sugar
Just recently started tracking my diet on MFP, and apparently I'm eating too much sugar (simple carbs). I'm not eating any refined/processed foods. Apparently I blow my entire sugar budget for the day with 4oz of Dannon Activia yogurt every morning (20g and my allocation is 25). Other foods often have small amounts of…
