Protein is important. There's almost no such thing as too much protein if you are eating whole foods. Figure out what your minimum is and then eat that much or more. Fiber and micronutrients are both debatable. I get absolutely 0 grams of fiber. That's intentional. My gut has never been better. As for the micronutrients,…

Fair enough. But, my protein goal requires that I eat a lot more than just normal amounts of meat. I'm working with a personal trainer and I refuse to use powders or supplements. That requires me to include a bit more lean meat and eat more than I would normally. Still hitting a ton of fat, obviously, but I also try and…

It is fair to say that my whole life is better and improved now. My health and fitness does not rival what it was when I was half my age, it far surpasses it. I am doing things now (at nearly 40) that I had resigned as impossible for me when I was 18-20.

I don't watch my protein, and I never restrict it. If I was watching it, I would want it higher than most people would ever consider. I'm talking at or above 200 grams a day.

I removed all fiber, upped my fat, and drink a little coffee. Those are my secrets to regularity. Actually, the coffee is optional. But, people tell me it helps them.

I use a weighted trend-line. So, when I read this, I thought you were asking about what our trend-line looks like. LOL I weigh almost every day. Weight can vary by more than a kilogram (2 pounds) day to day. Drops on the scale are almost completely disconnected with what I ate the day before. And, my scale likes to go flat…

Thanks. I have a spreadsheet I created for this challenge. It does the heavy lifting. I enter the current weights on the sheet. The sheet does the rest.

Still waiting on two people to check in. I haven't heard from them, so I can't be sure if they haven't dropped out. Here is a current chart of the progress of those who have gone a week or longer. 65.5% have lost weight. The average loss is 1 pounds. It's two pounds if you count only those who lost anything at all. The…

Hope you are well, physically. The challenge can wait. Heal first and deal with all that.

So far we have 28 people who have checked in and begun. The average weight is 212 pounds, but the range varies and we have people with little/nothing to lose and others with more than 100 pounds to go. I'm pretty excited to see what the next week is going to bring.

You should join the ad libitum challenge. You have the right attitude. It isn't too late.
-
Join the group first. The group link is right above this one.

Currently we have 34 people registered. 19 of them have checked in for the initial check in. Two of them let me know they'll be starting a little late. So, 13 people still need to check in. They have plenty of time. I don't have complete data, but it looks like we have a wide variety of people. We have those who have lots…

Just weight and carb goal, and weight is optional. You can just tell me change in weight. I get into the basics for how/why in this post here: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10682877/ad-libitum-august-18

If you're interested in joining, here is the group link. https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/127716-low-carber-ad-libitum-experience I will add people as quickly as I see you.

No. Any low-carber is welcome to join. In general, if someone is not being successful, I do recommend they try lowering their carbs before giving up. So, if you're eating 80g a day and not having success, maybe try 70 or 60 and see if that helps. The very long video that I posted in the original thread is not a ketogenic…

We start tomorrow. Everyone should make sure they weigh in tomorrow morning. If someone started early, that's fine. When you do your check-in, just let me know what your start date was. You'll be checking in early (every 7 days) compared to the rest of us, but I can make it work.
-
I never intended to stop you from doing your challenge. It's part of why I made it a different group. Your path is your own to take, but there's really no such thing as too much to lose for not tracking to work. It tends to be easier for those with lots to lose. And you don't get any more basic than getting back…

Be sure to weigh in tomorrow morning. If you started early, you can put your start information in, just make sure you tell me what your starting date was. And, you'll be updating on different days than most people.

You have to be a member of the group to see it. There's nothing there, yet, anyway. But, don't worry, after the first week I will be posting stats along with the link to the next check-in. It will be aggregated, so no one has their weight or stats exposed. But, there will be charts and stuff so we can get the basic idea.…

I don't see it. I am going to send an invite. Maybe that will work. I had a fairly long response to this, but then I hit "Done" on the top of the app and not the "post reply" or whatever it is under the post. That erases the whole post. I do that more often than I like to admit. The short answer is that tracking everything…

A common strategy is to just log foods that have carbs. That way to can keep track of the carb count easier.
-
No worries. I have structured the group so that people can join at a later date, when they are ready to give it a shot. I am going to try and collate the data. I am especially interested in something that I did not track the first time (drop out rate). There were a couple people who were losing, but then vanished. And,…

I moderate the zerocarb subreddit, and I am a bit more of a bigot over there than I am here. Part of our starting advice is for people to not IF. We encourage people to eat three times a day. Even if they don't feel hungry, sit down and have at least a few bites. You might be shocked, and find the body does want food but…

I had crab legs last night also. Sadly, I suffered the same photographic dysfunction and they were gone before I thought to take a picture. Lol
-
Generally, fiber isn't detrimental and most people can ignore it. I am zerocarb (no plants at all), but it isn't because it is better than keto for weight loss. Fiber does not seem to impact weight loss (positively or negatively) for most people. I would say you could ignore it.

Two days to go. I am so excited. Have 14 people officially signed up. https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/127716-low-carber-ad-libitum-experience

There are people who count total carbs. There are others who count half their fiber to their carb count. Then, there are people like me, who don't eat any fiber at all. Any of those handles this problem readily. In truth, though, for most people the impact isn't significant.
