I might post this challenge in the keto group, as well. But, it probably won't increase the number of participants. I think most people in that group are also in this one.
-
It will be a group by itself. But, there will also be a link in here (pinned) that will get you to the weekly check-in when the month begins.

Yeah. Long-term the scale is pointless when you learn how to eat and maintain a healthy weight. It is just so people can get an idea of if others actually lose weight not restricting. One day, I am going to do a "Strong Medicine" challenge. That is a minimum of 2000 calories a day of only meat, water, and a small amount of…

Yeah. But, I have to ask why you want to raise them. Outside of therapeutic objectives (seizures and such), I have never seen strong evidence that artificially raising your ketones, by adding MCT oil or directly consuming ketones, has a beneficial effect on weight loss.
-
You could do that. I am now curious as to how MFP would handle a 10k calories/day goal. LOL

I am going to make a different group, for the challenge participants. That way we don't clutter things up in here. I will post a link to the weekly check-in thread in here. But, a different group provides some benefits. It's open only to those participating. It allows you to create your own threads and discussions and get…

Why Calories Count: From Science to Politics by Marion Nestle and Malden Nesheim An odd quote from a book that is all about calories, but their overall recommendation is to pay more attention to what you are eating, and how much, and not the calories. They advise using scale weight and overall trends to determine if your…

I didn't quit coffee until like month 5 or 6. So, it didn't hurt with adaptation. And, I went back to coffee around month 8. I just like it, and I don't notice any appreciable difference when I include some black coffee.

Your avatar totally makes me think of Lil Dicky's brain

That is awesome to hear. You have no idea. Logging is still good, I logged for a while, after I gave up the conscious restriction. Then I got to the point where I would log a week, just to see what was going on (not to try and manipulate the numbers). And, now, I don't know the last time I logged. It is so freeing to trust…

Protein is outside the scope of this challenge, but we'e had tons of discussions on why low protein tends to be significantly worse than too much. Too much protein is almost harmless, too little is a major long-term issue. I did google him to see what his advice is, and I hate to say that I just don't agree. There is…

Protein is good, and you should eat it at every meal. In general, when you eat real foods, you will get enough protein. It's definitely something to at least be aware of. The third thing I ask, when people aren't losing weight like this (after have you reduced your carbs? and have you cut artificial sweeteners?) is "are…

It really is amazing when your body finally jumps on board with the weight loss, because you're no longer fighting with it against what it needs.

You've still got a week before the official start, but it's never too soon to stock up on delicious meat. Awesome. Zerocarb does make it really easy to hit your carb goal without counting. It's not for everyone, but it works for me. About the only thing I need to watch is cheese. I ate a pound of cheese yesterday--I am…

You can try it in your own time. I think trips provide a great motivation to do it. Do you really want to pull out a food scale on a trip? Can you make low carb work without a nutrition label and while eating out and around strange food? How good are you are making low carb choices that fit your goals? Of course, I have…
-
Yep, this is the way low-carb was done. This is why people used to lose their minds about it. Saying you don't count calories and you just eat until you're not hungry? That's how people are supposed to get fat, not lose weight! It really is. I openly admit, this is the wrong audience for the "don't count" message.…

You have to ignore the dates in the chart. I made that chart using the sheet I prepared for this upcoming month. The dates should be April 1, 2015 to May 1, 2015.

I tried to compile all the results from the original Ad Libitum experiment way back in the day. I turned everything into net weight loss, and removed names. I didn't keep track of drop-out, which is something that I would like to be more aware of this time. The chart is hard to read, but most people lost weight. At the 3rd…

It's incredibly freeing, isn't it Gale? Just trusting that your body will do the right thing, and eating as much as you want. I know a lot of people won't get on board. But, for those who do and free themselves, it's worth it. My favorite quote from the original trial was

Yeah, if you count water. If you wanted 9 pounds of fat loss, it's very unlikely. So, it depends on how much water you have to lose.

Method for hiding calories in the website. There is no method (as far as I am aware) of hiding them on the app. This only hides them on the diary screen, where you enter food. Your main page will still show it.

The following is the text of the original challenge, with dates updated for this upcoming one. Who here is down for a month of not counting calories? Want to see if you can live like the crazies? Here's a chance to try it out for yourself. Or, if you're already doing it, here's a chance to officially track how it's working…

We had many solutions to this problem, in the original Ad Libitum month. We created an extension that hid calories on the website. Some people only logged foods containing carbs. Some people just kept track of how many carbs they have left in their head. It's not super hard when it's the only thing you pay attention to.…

Height? Age? Amount of excess fat? Amount of weight loss so far? Time-frame for that weight loss? Macros in grams?

I am a beef person. That or lamb and goat. But, mostly beef. I currently have 20 pounds of beef in my fridge, and I don't plan on freezing any because it will be gone in less than two weeks.

Are you under doctor's supervision for this diet? Please, if you are not, see a doctor and discuss this plan with them. Get them monitoring and supervising your health, while you do this. No one here is qualified or able to offer advice on this amount of calories (without violating the TOS). We can help with low-carb (as…

I started suffering migraines as a child. It's rare for young boys, but they ruled out brain cancer and everything else. The migraines were constant at the start. I missed over 30 days of school in a semester that year. They got less frequent, as I got older, but I would have them every month or so. When I went keto, they…
