Interesting topic. I think I'm in the same boat, as I've previously lost weight doing stupidly low calorie, lowered carb diets. Now that I"m eating a proper, balanced diet, at a caloric deficit, and working out daily, I'd like to see some losses on the scale, but I'm assuming that my body is still trying to get accustomed…

THANK YOU!! I read this article last night and thought wtf? Batter on french fries? I wonder what awesome, totally natural and nutrient-rich ingredients this batter is made out of.

OK you guys fooled me. These Quest bars are gross! I bought one of each flavor. Got into the apple pie one last night and it was like eating apple scented silly putty. The coconut cashew I'm gnawing on right now is like coconut scented rubber with pencil shavings in it. I'm hoping I just happened to pick the two worst…

OK since SEVERAL of you have mentioned these Quest bars, I'm adding GNC to my afternoon shopping trip. I had already looking up Quest and 'store locator' before I came back to this thread and saw YET ANOTHER recommendation on these bad boys. They better be good!

You guys are fantastic!! Thank you so much for all these wonderful suggestions! I'm glad to see others jumping in for the ideas as well. Thanks to your wonderful suggestions, I remembered I had some 'fancy' can of tuna in the pantry I've been meaning to eat. Not sure what makes it so 'fancy', but I'm a sucker for packaging…

LMAO If I could get my hands on some organic cocaine, I wouldn't have this weight problem

Not sure if that was directed to me or the person who said they hate protein powders. For me, I don't mind them, I just don't want to use them if I can up my protein using actual food. :) Your eyeshadow is pretty :)
-
I had a killer pumpkin smoothie this morning. 0% fat Greek Yogurt, pumpkin puree, honey, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, and ice. 17g protein, mmmmmm :D

NotNikkithat link right there is what I'm talking about. Mmmmmm!!!!
-
I don't mind the taste of the right protein shake, I'm just trying to avoid them because it doesn't seem very 'natural'. Surely one can achieve a high protein intake without having to resort to protein shakes, no? Like I said, I'm happy to be swayed otherwise! As for red meat.....I love me some red meat :D I love meat,…

OK so I've already stated I don't habitually log here, I log on a spreadsheet on my hard drive. Opening my log would be useless to you guys. My actual day looks much like my typical day, in that I eat much the same stuff on a regular basis, and in larger portions when the exercise merits the extra calories.

i take it off during cycling and rely on my Polar. Then I edit the Body Media 'off body' time, because they are notorious for undercalculating for bicyclists. :(
-
Glad that good cycling is an indication that my metabolism isn't wrecked. I'm just stumped. I'm not trying to fool myself with 'dirty data', which is why I log my meals, measure what I eat, and have all the fun techie gadgets to gauge calorie burn/etc. I'm truly stumped and realize it's got to be some sort of…

Definitely not exhausted. Actually have a hard time getting to sleep at night without valium. That's due to work stress tho. Which I've heard stress can really kill your efforts of weight loss. As for my diary, I don't habitually log it here. I log it in a spreadsheet. Opening my diary would have you folks looking at a lot…

I'm an awesome cyclist :D LOL We got married on our bikes at the MS150. When we were heavy into cycling, we were riding to the tune of 4,000 miles a year. Now that we're married and have completely different life schedules, cycling has taken a back seat to 'life/work/kids', which is why we're only out there on the weekends…

gah..... i hate this, LOL! the reason my protein is so low is because im newly trying to figure out how to eat low cholesterol. turns out, all my go-to protein sources are high in cholesterol! i'm definitely taking this advice into account, guys. upping the protein for starters. im still not certain where i should land in…

Not my base, my 'maintain weight' calories. My base is something like high 1700's. But 'desk job, lightly active' gives me 2300'ish every calculator I look at, and syncs up on the Body Media pretty well for days that I do NOT go out walking or make any 'exercise specific' efforts (ie- just working, taking care of kids,…
-
LOL Ya, definitely not burning those calories on just my walk :D Thing is, I weight/measure everything I put in my mouth. I'm ridiculous about it, to the point that I don't enjoy going out for a meal, or to a friend or relative's house for a meal, because I need to be able to log it. :-| Green.....160g protein? OK, let me…
-
Greenrun, I eat to maintain a 1k calorie deficit. So I suppose that equates to eating my exercise calories. If I don't get in my walk, for instance, I'll only burn about 2400 calories that day, and therefore will cut out the 'extras' like light butter, crutons on my salad, what have you, to get to around 1400 calories.…
-
Stephanie, I'm a 210# 5'11" woman. I burn 2300 calories just sitting here at the computer all day and taking care of two kids. LOL The walking only gives me about 600 calories extra burn. I wear a Body Media (its like a FitBit), which is pretty well aligned to any BMR/caloric intake calculator I've found out there.
-
Suz...some folks say they wear theirs on their leg while cycling. I'm likely going for a ride tonight and I will see how that works out. I wear a HRM paired with a Polar watch to monitor calories burned during bike rides. I'll compare and let you know if the 'wearing it on my leg' results are similar to what my Polar gives…

I like you, Neanderthin :) Nothing beats a knowledgeable response, and I appreciate yours. Working hard to balance the diet. Having to re-learn the fact that carbs (especially the ones I'm eating) are not the devil has been difficult. Certainly not difficult to consume them. I love carbs, LOL However, based on my 'i need…

OK, so when watching cholesterol, it's not a matter of deciphering what is good/bad cholesterol, just be aware of the total cholesterol content, keep the total under 300/day, and let my liver figure out the rest. Good deal. Oh, and the fiber, to help escort it out of the system. Thanks! :) But when I see the recommendation…
-
Yarwell, thank you for that link. It is exactly what I needed. Thanks again!

Hmm, I'm not sure how the FitBit works. I don't have an area to log what time I worked out when I log on MFP, so maybe it doesn't work the same way? I *think* I got it set up properly now. I have 'negative calorie adjustments' turned on. This will prevent me from over logging, I believe. Before I turned on negative calorie…

So should I still log my exercise and the calories burned from doing it, or just leave it at the Body Media input? The documentation around this integration is either lacking or in a location I've yet to find, LOL
-
Ya, I've given up my morning yogurt for morning steel cut oats, mmmmm. More filling, and goes better with coffee, LOL! I'm a huge fish head, and especially love salmon. I eat that about once a week, and some kind of white fish or shell fish once a week as well. The genetics is definitely a factor for me :( Both parents…

Any suggestions or further explanation as to how to interpret these BodyMedia entries into my daily log and how to best accurately account for bicycling?

Mmmmm! Paleo roadkill! LOL Shhh! Some die hard followers might get some ideas.... LOL :D

I wanted to come back and add some more thoughts. Now that I'm done drooling over at that website I liked to (and no, the 'stalker' in my name is no relation to the website...i just happened to stumble across it via pinterest one day and was hooked) I've recently become very aware of what I refer to as 'industrial…
