  • ya, i went back and edited my post so go back and read the extras :) sorry about that. i was reading too quickly and missed the hour there and back!
  • I went and had a metabolic assessment- tubes and crap hooked up to me while I rode a stationary bike at different levels of exertion. The results were that I burn between 8-10 calories per minute, depending on my level of exertion (heart rate zones 2-4). Obviously, this is specific to me (5'11" 39 year old female), my…
  • I'm glad to read that there are at least SOME decent chiros out there. :) Check out this website for the Maximized Living thing. It's bonkers! http://maximizedliving.com/
  • That's how I feel about things, and it took me a long time (and many failed attempts at getting healthy through unhealthy measures) to get to that point. I told my husband I'm not interested AT ALL in going to this $320 crappy dinner to learn a bunch of junk science. They lost me at toxins.
  • Be careful with the avoidance of fats. Your brain needs fat, and you risk ruining your gallbladder eating ultra low fat. I've not looked at your diary, so I'm not sure if that applies to you, just wanted you to be aware if you weren't already. :)
  • The OP didn't even ask for only clean eating discussion, and even said they are trying to incorporate their binge foods into their daily plan, and asked everyone else what works for them, so why is everyone even arguing? LOL For me, I'm weighing/logging everything, even the little no-no's that weren't planned like the two…
  • They butchered me when they took mine out and then forgot to properly seal my common bile duct. By the time I was ready to go back to work, I had gone septic and went right back into the hospital. Missed a month of work in addition to the time I missed for the surgery and initial recovery. Damn doctors.... As far as…
  • Unless she's paying the bill and has something riding on your physical appearance, I'd have told her to mind her own f'ing business and stick her opinions up her butt.
  • Bed rest weight sucks. It got me last year when I tore the hell out of my knee after a slip on the ice. On the way into the gym no less. Are you trying to hit any particular macros along the way to your calorie goal, or are you just aiming for a number? I've found that calories are hard to consume when you're eating…
  • I hate this because I like to be super duper literal in my logging, and I know darn well if I cook, say, ground beef, the fat content of that meat is going to be way different once I've cooked, drained, and rinsed it (and even tho there is a listing in the food library for cooked/rinsed/drained beef, how do they come up…
  • Oh, and in case you aren't aware- protein and carbs both have 4 calories per gram, fat has 9. That can help when you're trying to figure it out on the fly in your head. :)
  • I'm pretty similar in my meal plan. It's a lot of damn eating, isn't it? I find it easier to hit my macros if I spend a bit of time each day pre-logging/figuring out my menu for the day, that way I don't end up in a bind at the end of the day wondering how I'm going to get in 100g of protein, 20g of carbs, and no fat…
  • Thanks, Lemurcat, that's just the kind of tip I was after. Protein does seem to be the hardest macro to get in for some reason, so I think I'm going to try as you do, and build my meals around the protein. Working out like a charm so far, so thanks!
  • Right, silly :) That's why I'm making menus- to have something to pre-log and aim for. Do you find it easier to hit macros if you spread them out over the day, or each meal hits the macros? I'm finding that 1900 calories is a lot to plan for :(
  • Once you start logging, you will build up a base of the stuff you eat most often, which makes it easier to find and log them next time. You can also save multiple items together as a meal- for instance, I will log a banana/yogurt/milk/berries in the amounts I've had, then save that as a meal. The rest of the week, I'll…
  • That's been my experience. If I eat little meals every few hours, I tend to be almost uncomfortably full throughout the day, whereas if I don't, I end up grazing and consuming way more calories than I would have if I just ate what I planned for the day (and still hungry, so what's up with that?! Probably the types of food…
  • Very curious though...if feeding time isn't really that important, what's with the advice we generally see that steers people towards eating small amounts of food every 2-3 hours to 'stoke the metabolism'. Is that just a crock? (We've all heard the fire/kindling/huge log analogy....lol)
  • Good deal. And wow, MFP has put in some updates since I was here last. I'm really diggin' the new features! Glad to not need to give up the evening snack. I'm truly satiated through the day, but my workouts are at night before dinner and I've typically got an appetite a couple hours after dinner. Plus, it feels nice to be…
  • +1,000,000,000,000 I was going to say PROTEIN but they beat me to it!
  • A little insensitive, don't you think? This thread is about a blended family that is not by choice, but by death. Pretty hard to be 'decent enough' and 'lay a foundation and work within its parameters' of a married mother and father when one of the parents has passed away, don't you think? OP- I agree with the comment from…
  • ROFLMFAO!!!! And to answer the OP, I'm 511, aiming for 165.
  • I was on Depo through college and it got rid of my period. It was awesome! Then I stopped taking it when I wanted to have babies and it took me 5 years to conceive. Scared the crap out of me! Went back on it when I decided I didn't want more kids and rather than getting rid of my period altogether, it just left me with…
  • :( Reading through some of these responses, I'm truly sorry for some of you ladies. I used to have nasty periods when I was a teen, but thankfully they never came back with such vigor after I went on the depo shot (which completely got rid of my period). When it came back after I stopped taking the shot, it was much, much…
  • I work out. It makes the cramps go away, and energizes me. Win win!
  • Since you seem to be talking about mostly food with labels, use the MFP app on your phone, snap a pic of the barcode on the label, and presto, you've got all the data from the nutrition label loaded right up, including serving size. If the serving size is, say, 2 oz and you weighed out 1oz, you'd just denote that when you…
  • oh god, thank you for posting this. i'm polish and grew up eating stuffed cabbage. love it, but it's such a pain in the butt to make, especially when i'm the only one in my family that will eat it. kids and husband won't touch it. :( this is so much easier, all the flavor, none of the hassle. Now if the ice would just…
  • I could tell you were a cyclist before I even read your entire post. LOL "Taking pride in the pain cave" reminds me of what my husband and I refer to going out on a group ride and demolishing everyone in the pack (in a friendly, competitive fashion, not like a couple of jerks, lol) We refer to our rides as 'suffer fests'.…
  • Don't do it. While it is effective at helping you achieve weight loss goals, it's also effective at eroding your muscle tissue. Muscle burns more than fat, so unless you want to continue on after achieving your weight goal with a very low calorie diet (I know 1200 calories is thrown around a lot here as 'the norm', but…
  • I did a walking challenge last year. I aimed for 100 miles and met my goal. There were days I couldn't go for my walk, so I had to make up for it on other days. It was the 5-mile days that I was able to hit the 10k step mark. Outside of intentional physical activity, my 'regular' life is pretty sedentary- work from home…
