  • When you eat, say, carbs and fat, a chain reaction of body functions and hormone secretions begins. A completely different chain reaction of body functions and hormones happens when you choose complex carbs and protein. For instance, if you eat too much sugary stuff (or refined carbs, etc), your blood sugar will spike, and…
  • They aren't expensive at all, so I'd say it's worth the investment. I seem to go through phases where I use mine nonstop and then it gets put away and neglected for several months. I love to dry fruit in there, veggies, etc. We use it most often to make different kinds of jerky. I'm going to make some fruit leathers for…
  • Ah, it's just a little extra protein...LOL eiw!
  • It's easy to meet your caloric needs by consuming healthy fats, such as nut butters, avocado, olive oil, etc. The key to clean eating is to balance your nutrition. Our bodies weren't meant to be stuffed full of refined grains and fried foods. It's entirely possible to eat clean and still rack up the calories :) Beans and…
  • oh heck ya! quinoa is a delicious grain and it's loaded with protein. I don't do a lot of starchy carbs to begin with. I'd love a big ol' pile of mashed potatoes, and they'd be 'clean' since they are straight from the ground, but I have found I just don't need the bulk like I thought I used to. I usually will grill some…
  • OK here they are: Jillian Michaels Master Your Metabolism- this book talks mostly about what is going on in your body when different foods are consumed, and how to gain control of these processes for your benefit The Complete Idiot's Guide to Glycemic Index Weight Loss- I hate the insulting title to this series of books,…
  • Ok, given your situation, I highly suggest picking up one of several books out there that discuss Glycemic Load. You will learn about how when you eat carbs, your body pumps out insulin to take care of the sugar spike, and the more carbs you eat, the more insulin you have in your system, so the less your body 'listens' to…
  • LOL Lucky! No hippies in my family to keep me honest, but I have to say, eating clean is a lot easier than any other way of eating. I've tried so many ways to lose weight, so many restrictive plans, and while they may have worked while 'on' them, I quickly got sick of adhering to the rules of whatever. Like low carb....it…
  • Not sure where ya live, but if you live where there are Food Lion grocery stores, the nicer ones carry it over in the freezer section. Lowes Food and Kroger both carry it, as do Trader Joe's and Whole Foods :) Most stores keep it refrigerated. I think Trader Joe's is the only place I've seen it not in the fridge. I was…
  • That's exactly what I'm talking about :) Sarah, it's not the same as organic. Clean eating is eating food as close to nature intended, basically what you can find in the perimeter of your grocery store. Fresh fruits, veggies, meats, whole grain.....organic is part of it, but whoa nelly, there's a ton of organic stuff that…
  • I know you didn't ask, so if you're not interested, just ignore me, LOL! Most people limit their carbs because they want to keep their blood sugar down lower than it would be if they were consuming a 'normal' amount of carbs. If you look at how carbs raise your blood sugar in a more complete way, you'll be able to enjoy…
  • Pasties and a g-string. I always said I'd flaunt it if I had it. LMAO Don't know that I'd go out of the house that way, but at least I could look and feel sexy for my honey :)
  • Every morning, I eat a 1 egg+1egg white sammich on a bagel thin. The bagel thin has 38g of carbs, which isn't super mega high as long as you aren't on an eating plan that restricts you to like, 50g of carbs a day, LOL I cook the eggs in this kind of pan: It's the perfect size for making nice round egg patties to fit…
  • thanks! :)
  • thanks guys! salmon's already on the menu for dinner, so that's out, lol! nuts have fat and i'm already at my fat limit for the day so if i add anymore, i'm going to have to keep it looooooow almost tempted to go make an eggwhite omelet, but HEY..... that tuna idea sounds awesome. tuna on a bed of spinach or something.…
  • This deserves to be repeated. You don't seem to be very positive, and to be honest, lots of people have come on here trying to brighten your spirits with conversation and you're not being entirely warm to any of us. What's going on? What's wrong?

  • I'm not understanding the problem here then. Are you posting topics and nobody is replying to them? We're trying to help. You're not reciprocating.

  • well this is a chat forum, not instant messenger, so start a thread asking questions or initiating a topic of conversation and people will post. there is a LOT of traffic here daily, so your post will get bumped down off the 'recent posts' tab quickly, however you can always revive the post with another comment.

  • Oh! Also wanted to confirm, the tech support guy at BB said that a HRM will *not* mess with the results of the BB. Both of the guys I spoke with said it's ok to wear a HRM for comparison. :) Alana, you're welcome :) It's driving me nuts so the best way I figured I can keep up with it is through a thread :D
  • So I called BB again today and spoke with another guy in tech support who said the same thing that the dude last night told me. "We would NEVER advise to wear the BB on the leg." Emphasis on 'never'. Almost wonder if it was the same guy. I should have remembered the guy's name from last night, LOL! If anyone else wants to…
  • That doesnt make sense because the BB doesnt record heart rate, and the HRM doesnt record skin temp/etc. The folks at BB told me to wear my HRM along with my BB so I can get an idea of what is 'normal' so when I edit off body, I can compare and feel comfortable with the results BB is providing me.
  • With the BB, you have the option to 'edit off body' for any period of time where you've had the unit off your body for greater than half an hour. So what you do is you take it off for swimming or cycling or what have you, then put it back on. The next time you sync, which is required every so often, I forget how long, but…
  • Back from another ride. Stats: Duration: 1:06 Average HR: 71% Max HR: 86% Calories burned- MFP: 1157 BB (off body): 871 Polar:707 LOL So that is interesting. The BB was closer to the Polar, even tho it was sitting on the front seat of my mini cooper while I was out riding. LMAO Since the BB folks discouraged me from trying…
  • lol if that's you in your avatar, you probably didn't need to read it anyways. It pertains to those of us trying to lose weight.
  • So, I just got off the horn with BB tech support and they said they 'would never' advise to wear on the leg. I was like dude, I saw the email..... LOL He said the person doling out the advice to wear it on the leg for cycling was giving incorrect advice and said I should either: 1) wear it lower on the arm, 2" above my…
  • Thank you :) Well, the thing is, we've been together forever. I'm not stressing so much about getting married. This is a second marriage for both of us, so we dont' have the big wedding jitters. What I am bugging out about is the fact that my wedding is going to be on TV, and I don't want to be fat on TV. Wah!! Exactly.…
  • I love my BB too, but it's not a heart rate monitor. That being said, I am addicted to it, LOL. I love seeing my steps for the day because if I'm coming up short, I will make the effort to go get in those steps so I make my step goal for the day. The calories, too. But my favorite part of the BB is that it tracks my sleep.…
