Lol... I actually have a thread about this same topic a while back, titled ' not a special snowflake, maybe damaged?'.... where I'm happy to say, people were much more civil and much less ' I'M RIGHT AND YOU'RE AN IDIOT'. Silly me for thinking I could find that success on more than one thread..... So ya, I'm aware I'm not…

I'm saying this as genuinely and nicely as I would if we were all in a big room having this same discussing. No snark applied or implied..... Just so we're on the same page, I didn't come here asking for help in defining my problem. I've done enough research and come to my own conclusions with the assistance of my GP and…

Not sure that I'm gaining fat, retaining fat, bloated.....I know the scale is going up, and I know I'm eating at a deficit. I know I want to kick the scale and burn all my clothes, LOL I'm trying to be civil about it though, all the while eating at a proper level rather than a 1700+ caloric deficit, and not weeding out any…

OK good deal, so I do understand. My walking calories are built into my TDEE because I chose lightly active rather than sedentary, and therefore I do not eat those back. Definitely up for some ideas on protein intake. I've been doing egg whites for so long in the morning just to make sure I start the day protein-heavy,…

Absolutely. I struggled a bit at first about the whole concept of eating your exercise calories back. But that was before I started to collect so much data about my daily caloric expenditures. Now, rather than having MFP deem me 'inactive', I have myself set to lightly active or whatever it's called here, to give me a base…

Angelina, thanks for the links! :) Doc.... again, thank you. It gets frustrating to see so many conflicting pieces of advice, and I know I'm on the road to 'recovery' so to say. If my calculations are correct, my TDEE - 20% is right about within 100 or so calories of where I am now. Slowly but surely, this weight is going…

Ok, I've done that, and come up with the same BMR you got. Now I poked around a little further to get my TDEE for days which I'm not just lounging in bed, lol. I chose 'exercise 3x/week', which is modest because I do get out there and walk every day, but I mean...it's walking. It's not HIIT or anything, but I'm not a couch…

Who performs the RMR test? Is this bloodwork or done in a fitness lab or something? We've got a fitness lab at one of the local colleges. I know they do VO2 max testing, but not sure if they do RMR.

All I can say is THANK YOU :flowerforyou: And add to that, that upping my calories even more is frightening. Since I've already been at an increased caloric intake (and still in plenty of deficit) for the last 4 weeks, you think maybe I should give THIS change a little more time to adjust before throwing even more calories…

Thank you. And sadly, I messed up my LBM by frequently doing VLCD and endurance cardio (bicycling long distances), without adding any resistance training to my routine. Phooey. :( As for BMR, I get a range- Fitness Frog gives me 1744 for BMR. MyFitnessPal gives me 1745 for BMR. Calculator.net gives me 1756 for BMR…

:) We do circuit training, each day focuses on one area of the body + abs. For instance, the class I attended last week was shoulders/abs. Left there feeling awesome, couldn't hardly lift my arm to brush my teeth the next day, and the following day my abs told me how good a job I did in class, LOL! My trainer is out of…

So you think thyroid is the only test to indicate metabolic adjustments? 12 forum posts, and most of them flaming me. Troll much? *eyeroll* I'm done dealing with you. You've added nothing to this discussion. Enjoy your keyboard warrior status. It looks great on you.

Yes, the weight lifting is something very new and I'm excited to see the progress as it occurs. My goal isn't to become twiggy or skinny-fat, I'd like to hit around 25% body fat. My trainer figures I could stick around 185#/25% body fat, and be slammin' :) That's hard to envision tho, because I've been down to 182 at one…

So now you are assuming I don't go to the dr? Just went for my physical last month, thyroid checks out fine. Fasting blood sugar, fine. Anything else you'd like to assume? I didn't come here for a debate. I came here for guidance on a topic I've discussed with other like-minded individuals without issue on this forum…

So I went to that website and selected moderate exercise, because I am out there 7 days a week, 3-5 miles a day. It gave me 2703 calories for TDEE, which is spot on in alignment with my BodyMedia for days I walk 3 miles. Closer to 2900 on days I walk 5 miles. Just had my blood panels done last month. Thyroid is ok, and I'm…

He gets it. Thank you. And yes, I am part of 'most people' in that I am fah-reaking out, but I don't want to repeat the cycle. I refuse to cut back down to a ridiculous caloric level, further the damage. I'm sticking steady, weighing/measuring like a mad scientist, and the weight gain makes me a sad panda, but I know it's…

Actually, no, because it's hard to get in 1600 calories a day of veggies and lean protein. But thanks for the condescending assumption! Did you not read the part about my eating 800-1200 calories for months at a clip? I have zero problems eating too little. And when I do eat at ridiculously low caloric levels, I lose…

LOL Now come on, nobody here said anything about 'starvation mode'. I'm not in starvation mode. I have a *very* hard time believing that I'm over estimating caloric burn using multiple methods of calculations in addition to an all-day body monitor, on top of miscalculating my calories to the extent that I'm eating enough…

OK, and that is your opinion, and that's cool. :flowerforyou: What I'm looking for is responses from like-minded folks who understand the intricacies of metabolism issues.

That's a good question. From everything I've read, VLCD and excessive cardio wreak havoc on one's metabolism. I'm an endurance cyclist, so I'm guessing the 50/75/100 mile bike rides (which I do eat extra calories for, of course, lest I be found in the ditch, twitching from hunger, lol) have done just as much good for my…

I'm an overweight, 5'11 woman with a desk job that walks 3-5 miles a day. When I don't walk, I only burn around 2300 calories :)
-
Susan, with all due respect, it's not that simple. I'm speaking from a 'slowed metabolism' stance, not 'this is my first diet and I don't know how many calories to eat' stance. :) Folks who know about metabolism 'reconstruction', please feel free to chime in. As already stated, I got to this point BY EATING TOO LITTLE. I'm…

I don't have a FitBit, so I don't know.....I wear my BodyMedia all day, every day and it computes my burn based on several pieces of input. (It's what they wear on the biggest loser, and is said to be the most accurate piece of equipment in this line of merchandise). It also spits out numbers that are pretty aligned with…

Oh ya, and just wanted to mention, I've (very) recently started a weight lifting regimen at a local gym. I went once last week and loved it. Owner is out of town until Thursday, so I'll be back on Thursday to resume what I intend to be a 3x/week program. He does a circuit class, and focuses on a different part of the body…

What about DDP Yoga?

LOL Whoops, sorry about that. I could have sworn someone said 150 and I went with it, but now I don't see that post. Derp. Good luck in finding a professional to help you sort it all out. I know the first registered dietician I went to was AWFUL. She couldn't even explain her own program to me. She just handed me some…

One thing I noticed on her profile is that she's a chronic dieter. So while in this post, 2 weeks doesn't sound like a long enough time to have slowed her metabolism, depending on how long she's been at it and repeated the process, there's definitely a chance there's some metabolism slowdown going on. Hit the weights,…

LOL As I was typing my 40-page monologue, this popped in. Much more succinct :D

I'm a lot like you. Fad diet....low carb, low cal, meal replacement, everything I did was keeping me below 1200 calories a day. I'm 5'11 with about 50# to lose, so obviously <1200 calories was ridiculous. I've done a lot of reading here and read about how I've most likely slowed my metabolism, making it think I'm going…

With all this talk about "______ metabolism", call it what you want.....is there a way a person can be checked out by their doctor to see if they have damaged/tanked/slowed/ruined their metabolism through long periods of VLCD? I'd like to have some sort of diagnosis or something, anything, that takes the guessing out of…
