  • I will often eat a Luna Bar within a 1/2 hour to hour post long run... for me they are good for getting the protein and carbs I need at that point. I have tried them as a quick breakfast...but they don't have staying power for that. Like others have posted...they are designed to eat during or post activity, that's why they…
  • I feel for you...I am having some issues with sticking with the plan myself. I read your post -- and it sounds like you do have good intentions. I'm not a therapist or a doctor...but I think that you should approach your doctor with these issues and get some direction. Again, I'm not an expert, but I think because you are…
  • Welcome! I'll send you a request ;) It's always good to have lots of positive support :)!!
  • OK , I have not read all the replies, but the ones I have read have all supported the original post - and I have to say I completely agree!! I run/walk - John Stanton recommends it, Jeff Galloway recommends it...and they are pros. I've done a 1/2 Marathon this way and there were many many run/walkers. I have no intentions…
  • HI there! I've only been on here a few weeks - and it seems to be a great supportive community! Feel free to add me as a friend !
  • Feel free to add me! I'm on here everyday and it definitely helps to have support - but sometimes giving support is also helpful  Friends make this fun
  • What fantastic progress!!! Great job! You'll have so much FUN running your 5K :) Jan. 1, 2011 was my first 5K - and I LOVED the experience...so much so that I did 3 more 5K events in 2011, and a 1/2 Marathon in Disneyland this past January, and a 10K in March :) I hope you have a great experience on the 12th. It's a very…
  • Running... I love it! I walk my daughter to school...then I head out for a run 3 or 4 days during the week, and a longer run on the weekend. I am adding more exercises besides running - but running is the bulk of my workout. It keeps me sane and it keeps me accountable! I normally rest Wed/Sat.
  • You can add me too...really any of you can ;) I love the support and cheerleading I get from MFP pals... and for some reason I feel accountable to my friends so I'm inspired to do my best each day! I've been fighting this battle for longer than I care to admit, and I too have a very supportive family, so I know exactly…
  • Well said newmeesh! Weight loss is not easy so it's great to have a team of cheerleaders behind you! Feel free to add me ;)
  • You can do this! You made the decision to get back on track and that really is the first step! Let's not forget the added challenge that you have quit smoking! So today is a new day, start of a new week :) Feel free to add me as a friend - I try to get on here and track every day, exercise a few times a week...and I love…
  • I am in the same boat... although this is my first go around with MFP I've been on again, off again with WW for years! Time to get serious and get this last 35 lbs OFF and out of my life for good! You can definitely do this... and if you are looking for friends to keep you going every day, feel free to add me ... I'll…
  • I started running to lose weight, and I've found the weight to come off slowly, but the muscle I've gained in the past 18mos is amazing! As you increase your endurance and distance you will notice a difference in your legs and hips, but it may take some time. I really noticed the increase in muscle mass in my legs and…
  • I just started using MFP yesterday ;) From what I've seen on this site there is lots of support and great tools :)

  • This is OT - but SuelnAz - you and I ran the same race!! I took part in the Neverland 5K before I did the Tink 1/2 - it was a great weekend :)
  • I use the Nike+ system on my iPod - then I sync it to DailyMile. DailyMile has some really fun ways to track your runs (ie - it tells you how many donuts you've burned, or how much gas you've saved!) You can also manually enter your runs if you don't use a system like Nike+ or Garmin :)
  • I don't think there is any 'right' answer to this...but here's what worked for me - I find that if my breathing is too laboured and short - I'm going too fast. So it's best to 'find your happy pace' and so that you can really focus on the breathing. Once you do this, you can build up from there. I use a run/walk method and…
  • I always run with music...it keeps me motivated. I have a single earbud from 'onegoodearbud.com' - it's great! One earbud in, volume down... but I'm careful to pay close attention to runners/traffic around me! Also - I use the Nike+ system and it gives me updates on my distance, pace, etc. I ran the Tinker Bell 1/2 in…
  • I occasionally have trouble with my knees - I actually discovered it on my last long run before I did my first 1/2! argh! First of all... make sure you have not injured your knee. If you have.. you will need guidance from your Dr and possibly a Physio-Therapist. I've been told that a lot of people who begin running, forget…

  • I started running in Aug 2010 - and I instantly LOVED it! Just did my first 1/2 Marathon in January and it was such a great experience :) I had some road blocks during training, which resulted in me missing out on a few weeks of training, but I still managed to finish! I use a method similar to the Galloway method - I…
