You can either get off all meds are cut down greatly the number you are taking. I went from four (Feb 2006) to currently one, Metformin), It took me 3.5 years but I did it. I worked at getting my numbers undercontrol and didn't worry so much about my weight. In those 3.5 years I lost weight slowly, very slowly, but I can't…

That's a good goal. What is your exercise plans/goals?

If you have a gaming system, get the Zumba2, don't know what it is called on x-Box but it is the same "dances," and workout by yourself. I did that and then my job had a health and fitness day where they had a Zumba class, I was able to keep up. In fact I was one of two people (we were older) who could keep up and finish…

Coming down with either a viral or bacterial infection will raise glucose levels for everybody, even non-diabetics. Diabetics get a warning before symptoms set in because we test.

So what is the connection? Lifestyle, genetics, diet, etc. Inquiring minds want to know.

I have a polar FT60; however, I didn't win mine. I have some issues with a faster than normal heart rate so I went for the FT60 because it not only monitors your heart rate and calorie burn, it records how long you've worked on in the three heart rate zones, which I need. The chest strap is very comfortable and the one…

"Muscle Memory is your friend ..." Not. Said by a fried of my mine who danced on broadway. Dancers pray for muscle memory to kick in so that they can dance through a show without gasping for breath while walkign off state; however, as a means for fitness, Muscle Memory is your enemy.

"Bump and PRAYING for it to not last more than 2 weeks I have to get in a bathing suit soon" You can gain water weight and still loose inches, don't worry.

There a lots of folks who don't have a T.V. I think your co-worker may be deflecting her guilt onto you. Don't let others dictate their lifestyle, norms, etc onto you. Unless you are to your kids, then you have something to worry about.

Make sure you get on that is "coded" meaning it will only pick up for heart rate and not someone with a monitor that may be close to you in class.

There are three Jack Rabbits in the city: 1255 Lexington Avenue, (East 85th Street) 212) 727-2981; 140 West 72 (Between Columbus Ave & Amsterdam) (212) 727-2982; and the one I go to, 42 West 14th Street (Between 5th and 6th Avenue) (212) 727-2980. The first time I went there I was very surprised to see that you had to…

The "sabotage" behavior is not just about food, Anytime you make a decision to change, you will be tested by friends, family and acquaintances.

My suggesstion is to go to a Running Store if you can. They usually have fitting rooms where you can try them out. In New York City, we have Jack Rabbit. I also found this article from Self-Magazine. http://www.self.com/fitness/blogs/freshfitnesstips/2012/02/the-best-sports-bra-for-big-bu.html Once you find brands that…

My primary care will not give me a prescription for test strips, so I have to get them from my endo. I stick with my primary care because he is also a cardiologist; but he thinks you just wait for your A1c results. Not happening. I started out test, test, testing during my workouts @ 20 to 30 minute intervals. I would see…

znm100 - No stomping - that is great info to have. Thanks.

The "happy" part of this entire process is because I don't think I would have changed my lifestyle choices if I hadn't been diagnosed. No matter the direction, taking a long walk off of a short pier into shark infested waters, still point to death no matter the path taken. I'm now more aware. I now to not go near the edge.

Ugly and gross as they may be, roaches do serve a purpose, they are scavengers. So don't give them anything to scavenge.:smooched:

@waldenfam2- Exercise, especially aerobic exercises, causes the muscles to uptake the glucose that is stored in muscle cells, after that is depleted, and it doesn't take long, the liver begins to dump glucose into the bloodstream to fuel whatever you're doing. However, if you are insulin resistant, the body doesn't…

Don't no machines for calorie count and for years I guesstimated how much I burned exercising. In 2010, EASA 2.0 came out (EA Sports Active 2.0) and it had a heart rate monitor/sensor and I really liked that (Wii; PS3 and x-Box) I could track my h/r. Then people said that the monitor wasn't accurate. What did I know, I…

@tsazani (sorry ldg323 don't mean to hijack your topic), may I ask what are you reading to keep up on the latest research on type II. I'm blessed to have found an endo (Dr. Sandra Foo St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital NYC) who stays informed on diabetes, nutrition and obesity. She kind of dismissed me in January as I'm one of…

I am exercising more to keep my fit and healthy; high blood pressure, diabetes. Been working out since 2006, and because I was focusing more on the "other" numbers and not on a scale, I was not concerned about the weight, I lost four dress sizes in 3.5 years but no weight, I have metabolic syndrome, and then Bam, I went…

I grew up in a household were everyone was obese and I was skinny, and I was tormented for not being like them. That's all I knew so "fat" was normal. I was shammed by being called skinny and as a child and even a teenager, I resented that word, skinny. I've grown up now and understand the content and context of the…

If I'm taking a long walk on a short pier into shark infested waters, don't tell me how PRETTY AND NICE i'm walking, jerk my chain and pull me back and say, "fool, look where you're going!!" From Medline Plus: Fat is one of the 3 nutrients (along with protein and carbohydrates) that supply calories to the body. Fat…

I began working out (15 minutes of fast walking to start - that's all I could handle six years ago) to get control of my health, going through a ravenous period 6/8 weeks later which leveled off about two months later. And I mean ravenous. As I bumped up and began varying my "workouts" (mostly fast walking - Leslie Sanson)…

Why can't someone be the 5%. 95% or not statistically you have a 50/50 chance of doing something successfully no matter the statistics that are thrown at you. If you go through life thinking you are part of the percentage that failed you will never find success at anything. 99% of my family told me my youngest son would be…

Try finding a second hand mat. The issue is you need to workout @ home because it is cheaper; however, given options, they are to expensive for you. I'm scratching my head. If you are a student, your school doesn't have a gym or at least an agreement with one? You obviously have a computer so hunt through some exercise…

Roaches will eat anything, wallpaper paste, some wiring insulation, food crumbs, so living roach free in NYC, or any place, means doing due diligence. I've been living in Brooklyn, NY for a long time and fighting roaches is a constant battle. Up until recently the Roach Baits really worked, especially the ones made by…

Try a manduka mat, http://www.manduka.com/us/shop/categories/products/mats/, for jumping in an apartment. It is not cheap but it lessens the impact on your knees and your neighbor's heads. You can find them on Amazon. Depending how committed you are, you may want to look into getting gym interlocking flooring (google it…

No X-Box here but I'm considered an ExerGamer, I use the Wii: EA Sports Active 2.0; Zumba2; Get Fit With Mel B, Exerbeat, Walk-It-Out, etc. Yesterday was my company's Health & Wellness Day and I was able to do two Aerobic Classes, fairly intense ones, back-to-back. In fact it was the "old" folk who could "hang" in both…
