Girl, here's the truth. Some people's spouses don't care about weight gain. Some do. The point is, YOU feel ****ty about this. Nothing we say on here is going to relieve you. Nothing he says will, either. You'll step away from the computer, or a conversation with him, and feel a bit empowered, hopefully, but then you'll be…

Feeling controlled by any food is a terrible feeling. You made me realize that the one good thing to come out of it is that I was like "suck it, DC, I'm so OVER you!" instead of "oh sweet sweet aspartame I have missed you so." Like seeing an ex boyfriend and being totally bored and repelled by him. I don't know what I ever…

Exactly! That's the crazy thing, too, is I probably drank 1/4 of a can before I felt sick. Fumes is a good way to describe it.

I'm still trying to figure this out myself. I took this weekend off from logging because my brain needed a break, and because I was going out with friends and didn't want to be fastidiously researching the menu on MFP and then counting bites the whole time. For me restaurants are about fun, and a quesadilla with a few…

I agree--see if you can work in a balanced dinner. Also, have you considered exploring Greek yogurt instead of light and fit? It's extremely good for you, and filling without the artificial sugars. It can be a bit tart but a dash of honey and fruit livens it up.

Cheese, be it grilled, mac n', or by the fistfull.

As I mentioned, I later added in some subway walking/stair climbing action in a fit of desperation. I don't usually add in my commute since it's minimal-ish.
-
What should my activity level be if I have a desk job but walk to and from the subway, 10 minutes each way plus about 100 stairs? I have it at sedentary.
-
You all are a wealth of info! The only drawback is now I want to eat everything mentioned here! Thanks so much for the suggestions, I will be adding all of these to my bag of tricks for the future!
-
Oh, it automatically set me up for 1 lb/week I think. I am looking to lose 10 lbs. This is all very confusing!
-
Well, I got desperate and added my walk to and from the subway, and the subway steps--and so now it says 255 remaining in green.
-
Well, it says: Goal 1280 Food 1452 Exercise - 427 Net 1025 Am I missing something? Do I secretly have 600 calories left? (...dear god say yes...)
-
Oh wow, good to know! I am contemplating another stroll I'm just so burned out from zumba +20 minute walk earlier. All signs point toward me being a wuss.
-
Gorgeous! You look so glowy!
-
Mmmm, filling! Don't tempt me, I have been known to have the eating habits of a five year old when left unsupervised. (Fruit Loops for lunch, I'm talking to you.)
-
I'll be Burger King and you be McDonald's--I'll have it my way,and you'll be lovin' it. ;-)
-
Haha....wait, so I haven't burned 893 calories for "fretting about fruits"??? There goes that!
-
Thanks. The problem is I currently *deeply* resent being made to labor over 8 carrot sticks, knowing full well no one ever gained weight eating carrots. I feel like if I ease into it, and let myself zone out at my desk with some snap peas (where once it was gummy bears) I'll better be able to not hate the hell out of this…

Thanks for the input, everyone--there's some super valuable info and advice here. I think that since I'm new to counting, the weighing and measuring of 8 carrot sticks and a kiwi at lunch, only to then "blow" my exercise calories with a paltry banana made my face hurt. I admire those of you who can demurely eat 3…
-
Yes! The largely unsung catalyst of epic crap eating.
-
It's not about pretending I didn't eat it, it's about having the mentality that a banana is a good thing for me to reach for, not a guilt-laden calorie filled thing that will make me gain weight, which is how I felt after my walk when I had to log it. Crazy talk! I don't want anything discouraging me from eating fruits and…
-
Good outlook--I think carefully measuring out carrot sticks and the like is what had me going bananas (pun intended, what up-)
-
Haha, yep. I'm pretty sure my weight gain this fall had everything to do with all the mac and cheese I was eating, and nothing to do with all the oranges I wasn't eating :-)
-
Oh! Mom didn't mention this. Definitely something to consider.
-
Well, I don't think this is about somehow cheating or fooling myself, it's about being realistic about what will and won't put on weight, and how exactly things impact me emotionally. I'd rather mindlessly nibble on blueberries while watching TV, than gorge on chips. Allowing for freedom in this one area seems to be…

I lived abroad at one point and food was scarce. When I came back to the States everything gave me a stomach ache. Go slowly, and eat simple foods. You can always go up 100 cals/week instead of making the 400 calorie jump. Also make sure you're not eating a whole lot at one time, your stomach needs time to process.…

Last year I lost 11 lbs in 2 months by simply walking 40 minutes a day 4x/week during my lunch break. I did not belong to a gym at the time. Now, I walk 3x/week and do zumba once or twice, and the progress is the same so far, one month in. I do zumba because it's fun, but the HUGE cal burn on MFP versus the moderate one…
