I think people get this--but get hung up on the muscle weighs more than fat (when comparing 5 lbs fat to 5 lbs muscle). Muscle is more dense, so 5 lbs of fat is BIGGER in SIZE than 5 lbs of muscle because muscle is heavier per cubic centimeter than fat. Now sitting back to hear all the arguments about this.

Sounds like you are well prepared. I did my first half with only 8 or so days notice in June. I decided to treat it as a long run and not stress out over it. Tears are tough-- steroids only reduce inflammation and pain and don't help with healing. Physical therapy will strengthen the muscles around the torn one, but can't make the torn one heal. I wear tights and long sleeves if it is in the 50's. But I live in Florida. Layer up for colder weather. Go in loops so as you heat up you can remove layers drop them in one spot, and then they are all in the same place when you are done. Good luck!

You should be able to connect the garmin data to mfp. Every time my garmin loads it shows calories on my profile, but MFP still changes the speed on me. Anything 10.1 mm and above defaults to 11:30 mm. Annoying.

Coffee helps me gain weight because I can't stand to drink it without adding a bunch of creamer and sugar to it. By itself--does nothing.

First placement in the field ever---2nd in age group for Lake Nona at Night 5K--27:13, a PR for me B) I finished a 2 mile race in 17:13 a couple weeks ago--boy do I slow down the longer I run. I guess that I still have lots of improvement potential :)

I would place if I were in the over 60 female age group :o . I don't think they will let me switch, but the races I enter don't usually give out awards. In any case the races I run the 40 year old generally outperform the 20's and 30's, but it is not fair to let what would be a 4th place finisher in the 40 age group drop…

Run with her, ask her friends if they want to join her. Ask her if she wants to enter any races--start with some small ones and once she begins to place in them go bigger. Sounds like you have great ideas already!
