Who Doesn't? Use the bathroom before you line up. If you have more than just a full bladder during your run try Imodium and getting up earlier to have your coffee a couple of hours before the race. Make sure you sign up for races that have bathrooms/ portable bathrooms along the race.

That was hilarious!

I just got through your first report from 2012 and love it that you have two more, after saying it would be your last. So cute, the kids playing before your race, and running with you!

Thanks Dave! I was wondering if I should nudge you but you beat me to it :-)

Loved the books, they are doing a decent job on the series, a nice surprise after the Sword of Truth.

Great job! Awesome pace. Congratulations! It is fun to get the kids involved too :-)

Dave, I am so impressed that you were able to do 50 K under those conditions. I skipped out on running most of last week due to intense skiing, then intense altitude sickness after overdoing it at 11,500 feet (was doing more cross country than downhill and boy did that stink!). However, made my goal of 75 miles for the…

I have the polar hr strap. A few drops of water on the sensor area next to my skin is all I need. It lies just below my bra, almost upper abdomen at times. But I never need to raise it as high as my bra for it to get a signal.

Still wondering why this hasn't been pinned.

It will get better. Massage gently, stretch, and don't give up. It goes away.

Here is to hoping to the weather changing! <I have nothing-Live in Florida and hate running in rain or cold. Haven't had to run in both> Best wishes!

Did about 2.5 miles 24 hours after arriving at altitude. Today did 5 very slow-1:20 total-walked a bit. Could definitely feel the altitude, and my heart rate and breathing were more rapid than at sea level. Colorado is pretty dry and toward the end started feeling like I was a bit dehydrated, so decided 5 miles was it.…

Congratulations! Hopefully I will be joining your age group eventually!!! It is hard work to keep up running that long.

Fool's Fate, which is the 3rd in the Tawny Man series, and could be considered either the 6th book a paired series - or the 9th, as the character the Fool is a major but not main character in a third trilogy, so that series is not necessary to the plot (although it is very helpful). Author is Robin Hobb, I can re-read…

On your first day you made it 15 minutes!?!? Wow. I make it about a hundred yards. It sucked at first. I smelled blood when I breathed AND later my muscles were sore for about 5 days. Thankfully that didn't last!

Likely wrong. Weight in lbs * Miles * 0.63 = estimated calories.

I run slow too--but if you take the advice of Carson (from the Long Distance Runner's group) and I have, the pace will increase with increased mileage. My first 5K, about 3 weeks into my running "thing" I did in 43:28- it was a combination of run/walk because I was still quite deconditioned. My PR 2 weeks ago was 27:50 for…

Just timed myself 2 weeks ago: 8:55 for one mile. I was sedentary until about May of last year, started running, ran too quickly, got knee pain, had to recover from that, then in September started running regularly. When I was in college, I was able to run one mile in 7:20 with much less effort than I am doing now…

I have had this for years. Only answer is to increase salt intake--for me. You should get checked out, but while you wait for your appointment increase salt intake (put it on everything). Your blood pressure is on the low normal side so unless you have kidney or heart problems extra salt shouldn't be a problem.
-
I just calculated your splits---8:51. You said you ran slowly but that is faster than my fastest 5K pace. And you ran 13.1 miles. Well Done!
-
One calculater estimates weight times 0.63 is calories per mile. It depends on how far you ran and how much you weigh. I don't know your weight, but it does sound quite high.
-
Give us an update after your appointment---the back of the knees - hopefully it is just a bit of bursitis which can be temporary or recurring. Hope it is temporary!
-
I would shoot for 3-5 lbs below goal, when you up your calories you may end up retaining a bit of glycogen and water which is normal. Your goal is pretty low, so maybe shoot for 3 lbs under. When you up your calories (slowly) you should be able to hit goal weight pretty easily.

For those who say she hasn't been following the program by adding weight -- is there a point where you are unable to add weight (form breaks down, unable to complete reps/sets). Or are you referring to her routine?

If they reject you for a rounding issue that would be over the top :flowerforyou:

Get fitted at a running shoe store. What is great for one person is the wrong shoe for another.
-
I don't eat before a morning run. My longest was 5 miles. If you run a long distance perhaps the long distance runners would have a different answer.

Listen to books. Currently re-reading A Song of Ice and Fire. Maybe when I finish Martin will have published another book! <well, one has hopes anyway...>

Try posting this on the long distance runners group--they might give you some answers. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/111-long-distance-runners

New to running--started in April/May last year, have done what seems to me like tons of 5K's, one 10K. Most with my son who is 10. I run 3-4 times a week, my longest run is a bit over 6 miles. I have a 5 mile trail race planned in late April, perhaps another 10K planned early April, and have signed up for the Disney 10…
