Phone #1: iPhone is in Tuneband around my arm to keep track of my miles and speed using Runtastic. Phone #2: old android phone is in my spibelt reading me the current book I am reading. Pepper spray: hooked to spibelt. Got this because my friend was attacked by 3 pit bulls. Hope I never have this happen and never need to…

My goal for April was 85 and I ran 117. I am going to shoot for 115 next month and it will be great if I go over. < I discovered knee likes trail running much better than road running >

I have two thousand books or so in epub format that I am slowly working through. I use the andoid app Moonreader Pro (5 bucks or so), it has the best user interface for books. AND when I am driving/shopping/cleaning or RUNNING, I have it read me my books (yes, I am kind of nerdy). Getting through a second read of the Game…

Great job!

It took me a month before I could run around the block without stopping (1 mile or so). Most people try to run too fast, too hard, for too long at first and therefore hate it because they can't breathe, their chest hurts, their hearts are pounding, they have side stitches, etc. etc. etc. I did too. Start slowly, run slowly…

Yep. Tried to explain to my mother why she gained 5 lbs over the holidays "when she didn't eat that much!". I was there, I maintained my weight because I weighed everything. She said I wasn't eating anything. If I ate what she ate I would be up more than 5 lbs. People aren't ready to get it until THEY want to get it.…

Bump. I still feel pretty slow. Have just recently ramped up the mileage, got over 100 miles this month. Average speed of runs is about 11 min per mile. Fastest I have ran is 8:55 per mile (that was HARD). I have been running for about a year. You people with your first 5K in the low 20's-->don't know how you do it!

Wow, speedy demons where you live!

Make sure the store has a decent return policy: 30 or 90 days where you can try out the shoes and make sure they work for you. If they don't then return them. If they are a decent store they should have this type of policy. It is worth it to get the correct shoes for you. Try them out in the store, run in them, run outside…

Good luck, sorry you got sick before the half--illness takes a toll on your body and if you didn't eat well you likely lost some muscle. I hope you feel well enough to run but doubt your body is in the best shape to PR. Of course, prove me wrong!

I am up to 20 miles per week. Guess I need to start the speed work and tempo runs and intervals. But first I should look up what those things are :drinker:

Cherry Zero or Cherry diet coke. Bad habit, but my only one. I think.

Once when hiking in Wyoming I INHALED a bug. It was disgusting and I couldn't get it up/out/whatever. I guess I am ok though, because it was 20+ years ago.

Runtastic posts to MFP. I believe endomodo does as well. Both will track exercises of all types. I stopped using endomodo because the calories burned estimate was double runtastic and I don't want to overeat based on erroneous calorie burns.

I don't eat anything before I run, when I run in the morning.

I thought it was funny. But I read through the "I am going to run a marathon in a year" thread from yesterday.

I use Moonreader pro (android app) to read my books to me. I use Calibre (free downloadable program) to convert my books to epub format, which is what Moonreader uses. As long as you are doing mindless tasks you can have your books read to you while you go about boring chores (driving, running, biking, laundry, dishes,…

Post in the long distance running group--you will get some solid answers there.

I am not competitive, at all, either in personality or in race times. I get satisfaction in running the race for fun, encouraging my son to run his best (because he is young enough and with my husband's genes could become competitive if he wants to), and beating my race times. While it would be really cool to win in my age…

Cross training and developing the muscles of the entire lower body will help. Many runners have weak hips and also don't stretch enough. Squats, lunges, deadlifts, foam rolling, cycling, elliptical. All these will help. You are likely pushing too fast. If you are in good cardiovascular condition then you go faster, longer,…

Cold all the time. Nothing else.

Trolling--I think she read that "I am running a marathon" thread from yesterday and got inspired :drinker:

You are doing too much, too soon. You just joined this month, so I assume that you just started exercising. It took me a month before I could run one mile without stopping. Slow down, do more walking, jog slowly until you get tired, walk, repeat. And read the post So You Want a To Start Running by ThickMcRunFast. Best info…

Read books. Or, use my android app Moonreader Pro ( since my iphone has nothing comparable ) read them to me while I run. Currently re-reading book 3 of A Song of Ice and Fire - one of the Game of Thrones series to those who have seen the TV series. Since the books are 30 plus hours of reading time each, it keeps me very…
