  • Pretty much. Acai berry has been shown to be no more special than blueberries. The best "colon cleanse" is a high fiber diet with enough water. ... And so on. >_o
  • You should always weigh yourself at the same time of day, as your weight genuinely can vary by a good 2 *kg* over the course of a day, never mind 2 lbs! I should be tracking sodium; hypertension runs in my family. >.<'' Thanks for the reminder! (Edit: and damn, I kinda need to be a little more careful about it! Oops.…
  • Yeah, type II runs in my family, too. >.< Excessive thirst and urination are a warning sign for all forms of diabetes -- I, II and gestational. But, yeah. 8 x 8 is pretty obviously flawed; to start with, your water intake is influenced by heat and humidity, and by your activity levels, and your body weight, and so on... I…
  • 8 x 8 is a bit of a myth, but it's okay as a rough guide. If you drink a bit more, that's fine, if you drink a bit less, that's fine too. If you're drinking a *lot* more, and/or using the bathroom frequently, you might wanna get checked out for diabetes.
  • Ugh, I know what you mean; I have IBS and oscillate between the extremes, and I can get so crabby when I'm like that. >.< Yeah, it's not exactly a medication, so when you have it isn't a biggie, and you mightn't need as much as the maximum reccommended. How much water do you drink? I like to go for 1L a day. If you're…
  • I find that just keeping a waterbottle on hand all day and taking a sip every time I notice it works for me....
  • I've been taking benefiber for a year or so now... 2-4 tsp of the powder a day is -plenty-, and for me, that means 1 tsp in my coffee and 2 tsp in my water bottle for the day -- making that 500 mL or so of water more "important" has the double bowel benefit of fibre and adequate hydration, which is another thing you have…
  • I think that part of the issue is also that the oil content of the nuts themselves can be low or inconsistent.... I will give that a shot, though!
  • I make my own cashew butter. ^__^ I have a lot of trouble to get the right consistency without adding too much oil... ///_-
  • Hi! Are you buying pre-prepped stuff or making most of your stuff from scratch? If you want to up your protein, surely you can just add more legumes -- like, have a lentil salad rather than a green salad for lunch, for instance?
  • Detoxes do more harm than good. They're hugely stressful on your body, and really piss your kidneys and liver off big time, rather than helping them. If you need a psychological separator between a binge phase and starting to eat well again, a day or two of "detox" won't be the end of the world, but if you can just switch…
  • Ugh. jerks. You reminding them of all the times they've tried and failed is such rubbish; you're proof that it can be done!
  • *High Five!*
  • Don't fret it.... cycling uses your muscles in a different way, so it'll take a little while to get back into it. If you are going out cycling as a whole family, why not let your husband supervise your four year old as he goes at his pace and you catch them up at the park? You should get back up to speed in a few weeks. <3
  • Hey! I'm a 24 y.o. postgrad student from Sydney, and have gained some kilos after quite a different lifestyle change to you -- for me, it was the transition from undergrad to the stress and relatively sedentary patterns of postgrad that did it... >.< I need to drop about 10 kg... I don't know at all what that is in lbs. My…
  • Hi! I'm a grad student, and am in the same boat.... I gained like 10 kg in my honours year, and just haven't shifted it. >.<
