A cortisone IV when I was 10-11 years old. I ballooned in a matter of days, a lot of water at first, but the appetite increase stayed. Managed to lose some to be 5'8" and 140-ish when I was 14, but then was severely restricted in my movements and encouraged to overeat... all downhill from there.

1. Favorite ice cream flavor? Coffee. If it has caramel swirls and chocolate chunks, all the better. Plain vanilla with cocoa powder on top is good, also. 2. Favorite pop tart? Blech. Those things do not trip my trigger. 3. Favorite chips? Homemade tortilla chips, baked, from real tortillas. 4. Favorite snack cracker? Meh.…

I'm not.

I felt betrayed and like I was the butt of a joke when I figured out Santa wasn't real and my parents were laughing. To prevent this in my own kids, I've told them that it's not real. That said, we appreciate the mythologies anyway and admire the beautiful costumes and decorations in the different traditions. This year we…

I went vegan a couple of years ago for ethical reasons. It was a disaster, health-wise. I was fine for a long time, felt better in some ways at first, even.. then I crashed. Horrifically. Like, zombie bed-ridden completely unable to do anything, not even think clearly about anything at all, total and complete crash. I had…

If you're not vegetarian, you can also buy the giant family size packages of fresh meats (cheaper per pound), take them out, wrap in film, put in a ziploc and freeze for later. Then take out as needed.

Bulk foods that are cheap and not pre-packaged individual meals include rice (esp. from an Asian or bulk store), potatoes, sweet potatoes, plantains (treat like potatoes - but they can be yummier), big bags of frozen chicken breasts, eggs, and on and on in a similar vein... it doesn't take all that much cooking prowess,…

TDEE, including BMR. I'm convinced base metabolism can shift. I used to have a temp of 96, now it's a bit higher, been 98 a couple times. The only change has been eating more, and doing so consistently. When my temp was lower, which I correlated with eating less, I had less energy, and I did not feel energetic enough to…

5'9", first goal weight around 150, then I'll go from there. It's more about bodyfat % for me, which I want to get to a max 15%. From looking at pics, and depending on my bone and muscle structure, I suspect I'll be happy somewhere between 120 and 140, probably somewhat towards the higher end as I'm pretty sure I've got…

Have you tested your morning temperature (armpit, if your arms have been down for a while)? That seems to be a good barometer of metabolic functioning. Mine used to be 96 or a bit less, but after a little while of eating more it's inching up to 98, I feel warmer, and after an initial 5-6lb gain I've started losing again,…

I have experience with this. Child #1, no squat, 18 hour labor. Child #2, squatted the whole time, maybe 30-45 minutes of actual labor. Less stress with #2 was also helpful. See? I said #2. I'm stil on topic.

When my body slows down, such as when I'd been not eating enough, or if I go to bed really late I could easily go with 10-12 hours and still feel sleepy. When I get less than 7 hours and/or if I go to bed very late consistently I noticed I do not lose weight, but I am not entirely sure if that's because I eat more or from…

Admire the hair. Of course.

Mustard, plain, on my finger. Mmmm...

Yes, you poop wrong. The diagrams just proved it, obviously. Just be thankful you don't also have a big rectocele from popping (or is it pooping?) out 11 pound babies. It's gymnastics in my bathroom come poop time.

Be careful. I did this a couple years ago, and though successful, I had a scare and it could have gone badly. I had fairly bad gallstone symptoms - in bed for days rolling and moaning in pain on my right side under the ribs, but we did not have any insurance at the time, were low on funds and I refused to go to the…

I, too have loose skin and I'm less than halfway there. With the stretch marks it looks like my stomach, boobs, backs of my knees and under my arms are covered in flappy pasty pink tree bark. I'm hopeful that future vigorous application of dermarolling, dry brushing, using a rubber roller, massage with those wooden nubbin…

I switched to portion snus (in a little packet, no loose tobacco in the teeth or anything). I still get the tobacco, but none of the lung effects, and the "hit" is slower and longer lasting. My only issue was adjusting to the taste, but I bought a lot of different flavored varieties to help with that. The Swedish studies…

Yep. It does. Just a hypothesis, but water swells up your blood, which could dilute blood sugars and salts at least temporarily until your liver pumps out more. That may be the culprit. I'm less hungry when I drink to thirst.

I've gone from 265 to 180 in just a few months by eating only one bunless hamburger at night, popping ephedra pills during the day and walking for hours daily when I was 21 (NOT healthy), but gained back 40, excluding baby weight, after I got pregnant with my first child and I've been stalled now for years. I just figured…

I concur with physical therapist/specialist. Perhaps isometric type exercises might be useful without joint movement, but of course I can't know.

Gives me heartburn just thinking about it. No.

GMO's take all the blame, but good old fashioned breeding for pest resistance, via human selection (or not necessarily - see plenty of poisonous plant species), can have some interesting side effects as well. Wheat bred to be naturally resistant to the hessian fly (a major pest) is resistant through an interesting…

I did the stretching and rolling thing and mine got better as well. If I remember right, (one of?) the reason it develops is a compensation in the foot for overly tight calf muscles, and the rolling helps with stimulating the area to heal and toughen.

This sounds like the "breakfast eaters are slim" study. Well, yeah. They're not trying to restrict food. I think that explanation is far more likely than there's something "special" about chocolate, or eating breakfast, or any other correlation != causation study that comes out.

I used to have painful periods when I was younger, it's just been more than a decade... which is about the length of time I've been cold and slow and chronically dieting. I know I might have endometriosis just from having had sciatica pain during all periods since shortly after I had my son.. just not very bad. It just…

Try eating some salt. I'm prone to icepick cluster headaches and I figured out that it was a salt deficiency. Being low carb seems to flush sodium and some of us experience headaches from that.

I just learned about "fat bombs." I'd been making them when I was really trying to push keto without realizing it, but they really do kill the appetite. Just any recipe that's almost all fat. I like to make something like the inside of a mounds(?) bar. 2 tablespoons coconut oil, 4 tablespoons finely shredded unsweetened…

If I recall correctly, IGF-1 doesn't stay at 0 and then go to 100 when carbs or dairy are consumed. It has a baseline, though I don't know what that is, I do know it is genetically determined. All I do know is that lots of carbs and dairy stimulate greater levels for longer periods of time, resulting in bigger/taller…
