  • Unbelievably, the trolling has grown even stronger in this thread since I last read it.
  • What, you mean he's not intentionally sabotaging your goals like people here seem to think? Weird...
  • Wow. The thread crapping is mighty in this one.
  • Your form might be different when running outside. Also, your speed might be different. Are your shoes still in good condition (are the treads worn?) Last but not least, I don't know the weather trends in Manitoba, but if it's hot and humid out, that can lead to more muscle cramping and more dehydration than you might…
  • I think that's pretty well suited to IVF. I would be surprised if they disqualified you for those reasons.
  • Wow... 30 minutes! Very impressive. I think I could go about 10 before needing a break. Or used to be able to - I remember doing 1500 revolutions once.
  • That is a great program. Our clinic offered nothing like it. I think they offered a multi-attempt program, but with no money back if it failed. Although, even the multi-attempt program wouldn't have been allowed for us due to the medical issue that was involved.
  • I am fairly certain the average cost for adoption is higher than the average cost for IVF. On the other hand, you are probably less likely to spend all of that money and come away empty-handed.
  • Agree with the separate account and auto transfer option. That has worked for us. One thing to keep in mind is that IVF can vary in costs depending on several factors. One of the biggest costs is medications, stuff like follistim. And the cost of that varies according to your dosage. And if not enough quality follicles…
  • The amiigo looks pretty cool, but the thing that makes FitBit so much better than the competition is the supporting software. Before myFitnessPal matured a bit, Fitbit was actually the very best website I had seen for tracking food, activity, etc. It is still quite good. I've seen a lot of other devices that have great…
  • I did not lose any weight with c25k, but I went from having trouble running for 30 seconds and having terrible form, shin splints, and cursing constantly, to being able to jog slowly for about 45 minutes. After the c25k, I paused my running to get into functional fitness classes for a year. I resumed running and am now…
  • Never heard of added carbs needed for weightlifting and DEFINITELY have not heard of carb loading for weight lifting. Carb Loading is intended for endurance athletes to help them increase their glycogen stores so that they don't run out of glycogen during long endurance sessions. If you are doing a lot of cardio, you might…
  • The dojo, then outside, then the gym, then home.
  • Happened to me earlier this year. I joined a new gym and the treadmills seemed way harder. For a while I just assumed I was rationalizing my performance. Then I found a different treadmill brand at the same gym and it was more in line with what I had experienced at other gyms and outdoors. My guess is that it was either on…
  • Nonsense. I started running at 230lb (I'm about 5'9", maybe a bit more). Shin splints are extremely common to new runners. Running form is often the culprit, but it also can just be a matter of the body adjusting. When I started marathon training this year, I occasionally would get them again after years of not having them.
  • I would guess it's quite a bit based on the times we have had to do it in gym class. I find it a lot more intense than bear crawls.
  • I used to have an insatiable appetite for music to use when running. One day I just stopped listening to music, and I have enjoyed running a lot more since then. But, that was after years of running with music or podcasts. Before I quit cold turkey, I would listen to a lot of Arcade Fire, Daft Punk, Calexico, and random…
  • Not related to potential victimization, I wear a road id and, if I ever run when it's somewhat dark (which I almost never do), I make sure I am very visible with plenty of bright colors and reflective materials. I also always run with my phone because it makes me feel safer to know I can call someone if I need to. I highly…
  • Smells a lot like the scientology detox. http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/medical_examiner/2004/10/poisons_begone.html A) I wouldn't trust anything on Mercola's site as far as I could throw it. The guy practices dubious medicine and science and has gotten into a fair amount of trouble for unsubstantiated…
  • Never heard of an electrolyte monitor. What kind of martial arts? I do a grappling art and have yet to think of / find anything suitable since an HRM strap would be a burden and would come loose constantly. If you are doing more of a striking art where you won't be wiggling around a lot, an HRM strap probably would be fine.
  • I would have < 2,000 steps per day in fitbit if I didn't track anything I would consider exercise (walking, running, etc.). I'm impressed with you folks who can get to 10k per day that way.
  • It's better than nothing, but is not the holy grail of fitness.
  • I did the hal higdon novice 1 which is about 12 weeks. I actually had 14 weeks and added a couple of long runs in.
  • You read the whole article and that's all you decided to quote? It's not even about this study specifically. The 2012 study mentioned is the most recent study prior to the one mentioned in the article. There were plenty of quotes from people about the actual study in question. And "in question" is a good way to describe…
  • I seriously doubt we need GMOs in order to grow enough volume of food to feed the world. If anything, we need GMOs to make it possible to grow staple food in seemingly hostile environments where it currently can't grow and is sorely needed. I don't want to get all Walter Berglund on everything, but I do question if…
  • Organic = I prefer it for things like strawberries or potatoes where the chemical use is at least somewhat more regulated and I otherwise can't research the source. But it may not make any difference. GMO = I would prefer to avoid since I think there are a lot of dubious ethics going on in the industry. I doubt there are…
  • Carpano Antica is just so pricey. I feel like Cocchi di Torino is equally good and half the price. Just make sure you get the right one -- they make a couple of things with similar names.

  • It is fun but way different than a Napa/Sonoma wine tasting trail situation. The distilleries are a fair ways apart from each other, and the liquor laws are pretty stringent in most areas. You are restricted to some really tiny tasting size - I want to say 0.5 ounces total. The tours are a lot more fun than any winery tour…

  • A lot of sites seem to recommend it, especially in the summer heat, in order to help one understand their hydration needs.
  • Sounds plausible. I run with a 2 liter bladder, stop at every water fountain I see, eat 6 or so servings of shot bloks, drink about 20 ounces when I get home and eat a clif bar or equivalent, and even still I usually am 3 lbs lighter after a long run these days.
