I have a sedentary job, and I count the walk to/from work - this usually is around 160 calories per day. Because I only work 3 days, I wasn't sure if I should use that setting or lightly active - on my non-work days, I am far more active (doing housework, washing, racing around after kids) so I probably should change it.…

Cycling? I am in a similar situation having re-injured my ankle 2 months ago. For a while, even cycling hurt it, but I can cycle now - just a shame I am not getting much opportunity. I am looking for more ideas too. Currently thinking of getting a boxing bag to put in the garage (well I have been thinking about it for…

Make it fun! We all enjoy physical activity more if it's fun. Going outside and joining them helps too. If we send the kids outside to play, they are back inside every 5 minutes. My kids are pretty active, but even they have started to get a bit to keen on sitting in front of the TV. Some of the active things we do are...…

I know it's hard, but try not to let their comments get to you. You are doing this for you, not them. My husband doesn't see me as overweight (even though I have tried explaining that my BMI puts me borderline obese!) - it's sweet that he loves me the way I am, but at the same time it does have a detrimental effect on my…

I started it about 2 months ago and injured my ankle on the first day! It was an old injury, so i am wondering if it's meant to be. Hopefully another couple of physio sessions and I might at least be able to give it a go, with my ankle strapped. I downloaded an app to my phone which I can't wait to use properly!

Fantastic. There's a response to every excuse I can come up with!

Wow some great suggestions. I am starting to think some DVD's might be the go. Maybe zumba would keep the kids interested too. If I could fit that in a couple of times a week, that would be great. On my work days, I have about 15 minutes walk from where I park to the office - I have been trying to get a parking spot…

Boredom or stress do it for me. If hubby is away for work, I snack far too much in the evening! I often have a cup of earl grey tea in the evening and that helps - occasionally a couple of biscuits, but trying not to do that now! Sometimes cleaning my teeth helps, or heading off to bed with a good book.

Thanks for your coments. Mstawnya, I actually did take the kids out with Mr 4 on his bike and Miss 2 in the buggy (she wasn't happy to be contained but those little legs make for slow pace!) shortly after this post. Your suggestions are great. Arodarte, I have a storm cover for the buggy - my son has awful silent reflux…

Spinach is my favourite vege for doing this - throw a couple of handfuls of fresh, or some frozen spinach into curries, mince dishes or pasta dishes shortly before serving (frozen needs a little more time). If you have a couple of servings of veges with the meal, there's 2 and a bit servings for the day. I always add salad…

Hey Debs, I'm new here too - just joined up yesterday! I am finding the whole idea of having signed up already having an affect on my habits - no random snacking for me today! I hope that your self esteem starts to return now that you are doing something for yourself, and that as you see results that will also help.

Cycling or swimming. What about some hill walking?

I sympathise with the ankle injury. I decided to move on from cycling and introduce a bit of running, only to sprain my ankle first time out and nearly 2 months later I still can't run on it. Even cycling was making it worse, but I am hoping to get back on my bike this weekend (too dark in the evenings, here now). Swimming…

Thanks for the welcome. I am already adicted LOL. Time to go wake Miss 2 year old or she will never sleep tonight, then get onto some of those household chores I am supposed to do on Thursday!

I have heard of it. My son couldn't eat bananas until he was about 2 years old - not an allergy as such, but he would get terribly constipated and be up screaming all night. My daughter also had issues with bananas; they would flare up her reflux as a baby. Both of them are fine with bananas now. Be aware that banana…

My favourite is a wrap with diced dates and dried apricots, fill up with salad. It's good to mix the dates and apricots with cottage cheese an hour or 2 in advance (or make the wrap in advance), so they soften a bit.
