Nice to meet you!
-
Welcome!
-
I'm with you, but I'm trying to add 15-20 lbs. :)
-
When I first started, I was walking or swimming on off days, but now I don't do much. Yoga, foam roller. . .

I'm 5'3", 42 years old SW: 196 lbs CW: 170-172 GW: 140 My goal weight seems much higher than everyone else's, but I do have a large frame. I'm comfortable being a size 10 or so, and in the past, 140 has had me there. If I'm muscular, it's a good weight for me.

Most people who lose weight quickly and on VLCD gain back what they lost and more in a fairly short period of time. You're more likely to keep it off if you do it more slowly.

275/2.2 = about 125 kg

One of the best yoga teachers I ever had was very overweight - but flexible and strong. You can start yoga at any size. You may want to take it slow and do variations on some postures, but anyone any size needs to start somewhere.

Ritual of the squat: http://2010flacas.blogspot.com/2012/09/ritual-of-squat.html Some snips: I've noticed that when I approach the bar for squats, I have a ritual. This is as much a ritual as any other thing I've done in my life, like meditation, walking the labyrinth, the sun salutation, or the bedtime routine when my…

I had written something snarky, but realized it was snarky and deleted.

I'm also ex-military, and I could do that schedule for about 2 weeks. Somewhere between day 10-14, I'd either get sick (forcing me to stay in bed all day), or just be really exhausted and *****y. And doing it on only 1300 Cal/day? Not happening.

if you go into your Goals section, you can customize your %. Then you can tell it which things to track (to show up on your daily chart).

I just wrote a blog post about "how strong are you?" http://2010flacas.blogspot.com/2012/08/strength-standards-how-strong-are-you.html I reference gubernatrix's strength standards for women: http://gubernatrix.co.uk/2008/12/strength-standards-for-women/ She talks about using a percentage of your body weight as a goal for…

Fantastic milestone! 100 lbs squats feel so good!
-
Really tough. Really effing tough. On another thread, I posted a link to gubernatrix's strength standards for women. For the overhead (which she just calls the press) she says your 1RM for the press is 33% of your bodyweight for "good", 50% for "very good" and 75% for "excellent".…

Barbell & plates in a power cage.

A compound exercise is one that employs more than one joint, yes? Lat pulldown uses both elbows and shoulders, no? (I mean, I do rows, but lat pulldowns aren't bad).
-
:) My knee hurts when my knees cave in on the up part. Concentrate on "knees out".
-
Oh, I intend to get to at least 1.5x body weight on a squat. Eventually. Have you guys seen this? http://gubernatrix.co.uk/2008/12/strength-standards-for-women/ This is based on percentage of bodyweight: Good Very Good Excellent Deadlift (1 rep max) 150 % 175-200 % 225 %+ Squat (1 rep max) 125 % 150 % 175 %+…

I haven't yet. It's on my wish list, but I don't think I need one yet; I don't think I'm at a heavy enough weight to justify it yet. What weight are you at for deads?
-
The whole post is awesome, but this is extra-awesome.

Come talk to us over on Stronglifts for women http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/4618-stronglifts-5x5-for-women Or join the New Rules of Lifting for Women group: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/102-new-rules-of-lifting-for-women-nrol4w I also wrote this a little while ago: How I became unafraid of the mostly…

More complicated than you thought? :glasses:

Powerlifting is a sport that is about three major compound lifts: squats, deadlifts and bench press. There are some accessory lifts that people do to help prepare for those three competition lifts. Just lifting could be anything: body building (which is about size/shape of muscles and isolation movements), Olympic lifting…

Hmmm, are you thinking about having the weight go in a straight line up and down over the mid-foot? Pushing through the heels? Feel like you're pulling the floor apart with your feet? Sinking your butt down and back?

This is me with three other friends all trying to lose weight and get fit. "Las Flacas" means "the skinny girls" in Spanish. I'm the one who posts the most. http://2010flacas.blogspot.com/ our FB page: https://www.facebook.com/LasFlacasWeightLossJourneys and I just started a pinterest:…

Last night (I'm doing 3 sets instead of 5) Squats: 105 lbs for 3x5 (so up next time. Last rep on last set was hard, but others were ok) Overhead: 60 for 5/4/3 and OMG is this freaking hard. The last rep on each set went up oh.so.slowly. and I almost couldn't lock out or get under. I did, eventually, but ugh! Yeah, going up…

Oh, and the fact that you used to lift means you may progress pretty fast at first.
-
Muscles are muscles at whatever age. You may need to be more careful of your joints. I'm 42 and started with Stronglifts 5x5 in April. It's a barbell linear progression program, heavy weights/low reps. I'm doing more 3x5 now.

1 stone = 14 lbs for reference.
