I'd bet it's some combination of these two things:
-
If you only have 5 pounds to lose and you want to make sure it's not muscle, you'll need to lose it slower than 1lb per week. Something like 0.25 to 0.5 pounds per week. The last few pounds are always the hardest. I'd suggest an average of 1450 calories / day. That way you could also hit your 1300 on "good" days, and 2350…

To limit muscle loss you need to strength train and consume adequate protein. Since we don't know anything about you'd I'd guess that 60 to 100g.
-
So you average 1200 calories a day? I suppose that's okay. Are you sure your maintenance is 1700? That's pretty low. Where'd you get that number from? (Mine is 2300). Any day could include "junk" as long as you are getting enough macro and micro nutrients from other food. I can easily eating 3000 to 4000 calories on a…

It doesn't take much time. Put plate on scale, "tare" it. Put on lettuce, write down weight, tare it. Put on tomato, write down weight, tare.... etc. But I'd probably one weight the tomato and the carrots. The others would be in the single digits.

Fruit yes, veggies usually no. It's not worth the effort to log 7 calories of spinach (which is a whole salad's worth).

Walmart sells 1oz single servings for $0.50. It's the only way I can control myself.
-
This. Except I aim for 2000 and a half pound.

Definitely cycling

I like Asics. I got my last pair from Big 5 Sports for $60.

I bought a power cage, a bar and weights, plus an adjustable bench for about $800. I have this cage: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HDVZJ9A/ref=cm_sw_r_pi_dp_x_OhjPybBQ8V8DQ

Regular oatmeal only take 1 min, 20 sec in the microwave. I like to put honey and bananas in mine. You could even do Splenda.

This is my go-to salmon recipe for kids. They still complain though, but I love it and make them eat it anyway. http://ourjourneytoasimplerlife.blogspot.com/2010/07/recipe-of-week-kid-friendly-salmon.html

Oreos and tortilla chips.

It's a balance. Obviously we don't want to "give" our children eating disorders but we don't want them to be unhealthy either. I think it's okay to question her hunger level when she requests seconds for dinner. Emphasize that stuff yourself isn't healthy and we should only eat when truly hungry and not when we are bored,…

Lunchables for grownups: Oh wait, that's probably pork.

Don't worry, by the time you are in your 3rd trimester everything is so squished you won't be able to eat much in one sitting. Or breath.
-
Asthma inhalers are a big one too.
-
The feeling of maintenance is so nice. It's just nice not to have to even think about wanting to lose.
-
The equations used to convert heart rate into calories are really only valid for steady state aerobic activity. They are less accurate / possibly not useful for things like intervals or weight lifting.

We went to Buffalo Wild Wings the other day. The side salad is MORE calories than a side of fries? 390 vs. 330. Now that takes a special kind of effort. I'm guessing it includes dressing in that count. Maybe even 2oz of it, which is ridiculous on a "side" sized salad.

Sunflower seeds. Not terribly low calorie but tt takes forever to eat the 180 calorie serving.
-
Meal timing is mostly irrelevant. Are you currently maintaining your weight? If yes, you are eating your maintenance calories. Let's say that's 1800 calories. It doesn't matter that you are eating only one meal. It's probably that your meal servings are so large that you are hitting that 1800 calories. Or maybe it's only…

Do people see how your close fit or the number on the scale? Do you write it on your forehead every morning? Blurt it out before starting every conversation?

You might lose too quickly, you might also lose more muscle than is desirable (and I assume as a former football player that you have a lot of muscle and don't want to lose that). Some ideas for increasing calories without too much effort: protein shakes with whole milk, oatmeal with nuts for breakfast, salads with cheese…

If you don't care what you eat, every Sunday cook up a bunch of chicken breast, brown rice and broccoli and fill 14 single serving containers. Do the same the next Sunday but switch the broccoli for another vegetable, the chicken for pork chops, etc. That way only 2 hours of every Sunday is "about food" and every other day…

Stevia tastes funny to me. I use skim milk and Splenda.

Cider makes me the most sad. It's light! I was hoping it'd be closer to light beer. :(

The naked tenders from BWW aren't bad. 6 tenders for only 280 calories. You could even get them with a side of fries (330) and still come out at 610 calories. Dipping them in buffalo sauce won't add much either. The ranch will kill you though. And the beer.
