  • The only thing I'd want to tell you is....Age has nothing to do with anything ( I'm 55 and just finished my first 1/2 marathon) Just get outside and enjoy !!
  • I just ran my first 1/2...Yes I carb loaded..not in excess, some pasta and sweet potato..also very important to increase your protein and sodium...eat pretzels and HYDRATE HYDRATE HYDRATE !! Best of luck on your race !
  • Well...It's a wrap..my first 1/2 MARATHON in 2:06:12....actually wasn't my best run...but I'll take it !! 16 th in my age bracket, 545 for female finishers and 1285 overall.

  • Bib printed..I'll proudly wear it tonight for my 4 mile run and for my upcoming 1/2 marathon.
  • Alrighty then....I guess I would ask "What are the stakes?" after all it's a challenge...right? Your friend never actually said "Run a Marathon"....A lot of websites that have free Marathon training plans have a walk/run program. I guess the key thing here is just HOW MOTIVATED are you? I think it can be done. I'm running…
  • <.....throws confetti !! Standing ovation...Woot Woot ...So super proud of you !! What an accomplishment !! I'm running my first 1/2 on April 28th.
  • I don't understand why you think you need to live on milkshakes...I have braces, I have rubber bands in...heck I even had a tooth pulled last week. Didn't stop me from eating "normal" maybe had to go with soft foods for a day, but other than that some Motrin should be all you need.
  • fruit dipped in chocolate...strawberries....pears...............or Lindor truffle balls under 80 calories....it's all in portion control...don't ever deprive yourself, I find it leads to binging.
  • It's tough ..I know you want to try and make up miles...don't...just hop back in when you're healed...trust in your training and run the best race you can.
  • On vacation I had no choice but to do my runs on the beach, I would say it was hard packed sand, there was really no difference for me, except having to cross a swallow stream and my sneakers got a little smelly form the salt water and sand.
  • Just a word of caution...IT CAN become addicting...lol

  • Did my first preview run for my 1/2 on Saturday...they said it would be 2 laps of the back 6.5 miles of the course...they fibbed...when all was said and done it was 14.3 !!. At the last minute I decided not to wear my jacket, so I had no place to keep my smart phone and no way to record my time...arrrrgh !! It gave me some…

  • Did My Spring forward 15K this Saturday in 1:29:19, I ranked 408th...8th in my age bracket.....not bad for an old lady...lol !
  • My own head ....telling me it's okay to stop...you can't do this...maybe you can wait til tomorrow...you really shouldn't push yourself...hey you're 55 why do think you have to run a 1/2 marathon....you can skip a training run...no one will ever know. I can self sabotage the best work out.
  • I marinate chicken, then freeze it in ziplock baggies...I also chop up veggies, zucchini onions mushrooms grape tomatos, put in zip lock baggies and make kabobs. For breakfast I make zip lock baggies full of omelet mix then add meat or veggies when I cook them. Cold cuts work good for lunch. Guess you figured it out zip…
  • My shoes are Brooks GTS 13, they've been in snow, single digits, rain, beach runs with temps in the 80's ...the tread looks fine, but I did just notice a hole starting where my right big toe is. Before this pair I never spent $ $$ on shoes of any kind, so I'm not sure if these are the best shoes for me. I did go to Fleet…
  • Hi, I just joined the group. My first 1/2 is April 28th. I'm hoping to finish in less than 2 hrs.20 minutes. But hey just finishing would be awesome. This week Mon.rest Tues & wed 5 miles, thurs. is my 4 mile tempo run, Fri is a rest day then I have a 15K race on Saurday followed by a 4 mile recovery run Sunday. Things are…
  • It's my first pair of "real" running shoes
  • That's a difficult one to answer....My 1/2 is the week before yours and my long run was 11 miles this past Saturday. Adrenaline and sheer will power might pull you through....you can't really play catch up at this point. Is a run /walk that bad for your first?
  • Balancing your calories while training for a 1/2 is difficult at best...I forego MFP and do TDEE...again I do more of a weekly average. I did my 11 mile run on Saturday too another 3 on Sunday, for whatever reason I'm hungrier the day after a big run. What 1/2 are you training for? When is it?

  • Hey there...I just signed up to start training for my first 1/2 Marathon...training starts tonight the race is the Flower City marathon April 28th. I still don't consider myself a runner, up until recently it's been a chore, never something I've enjoyed. I just wish it was a litle warmer running in the single digit with…
