Yeah, that's awesome you have your own equipment. I keep checking Craigslist for a great deal. My gym is getting more and more crowded and I sometimes find it hard to concentrate. Last night a girl was standing right next to the rack waiting for me to finish. It was a little unnerving because I felt like I was being…

Yep, it takes me 1-1/2 hours. Sometimes a little less, sometimes more if I have to wait for the power rack. Maybe the one drawback is if the rack isn't free, you pretty much have to wait because there aren't any alternating exercises to fill that time. It has been about three years since I did NROL4W, but I don't think it…

Beyond getting to a very low body fat, I believe most of us will always have some cellulite. Except for on some hardcore athletes, even the thinnest women have cellulite. I used to hate my body because of my cellulite, and realizing that pretty much all women have it after puberty, I finally came to terms with. Adding…

I thought about this thread while I was in the gym the other day working out amongst men of varying heights. There was a man who was freakishly tall...I'd guess close to 7 foot, and at the other end a man who was tiny, seriously well under 5 foot. It was actually comical to see these too extremes at the same time. I looked…

Thanks!

I made good progress on squats finally, but I've certainly been inching along on everything else. Working on perfecting form is a worthy goal in itself and a good reason to take a step back. Although It looks like you made some serious progress on DL's!

So, this is officially my last July workout. I'm pretty satisfied with my progress. I added 17 lbs. to my squat while really focusing on maintaining depth. I'm going to parallel at least, and that's fine. Tonight: Squats 132 Bench Press 85 DL 167 (tough...I'll stay here at least once more). Looking forward to August. I'm…

You're right I guess that most people don't do common rows with their back parallel to the ground, but that is how I learned to do them, so the transition was easier for me I guess. I believe that they are intended to be done with back parallel and, as with many other exercises, form has been compromised in order to lift…

I'm confused. The rows in Starting Strength, where the description specifies breaking the bar off the floor with straight elbows and a sight hip extension, then rowing the bar to the upper stomach, are identical to the rows in Stronglifts. Not saying these are easy, but the only difference I see in form between these and…

Takes me an hour and a half. I rest about four minutes between sets on squats and upper body, sometimes 5 for the last set. I've never done a program that took this long. Sometimes I have to wait 20-30 minutes before the power rack is free, so then I'm really in the gym a long time.

I watched the video...great job! I made a video like that about three years ago, but for the life of me I can't come close to that anymore. Starting to doubt I will ever. I've got a band for assistance and I'm lucky to do two with the band. I'll keep plugging away as I think it would be awesome to be a grandma who can do…

Happy with my workout...another crappy day of eating but plenty of fuel for my workout. Squats 130 OHP 62 BOR 100 Soon I'll be able to retire the 35 lb. plates, at least until I hit 205!
-
Yeah, Victoria , you're crazy strong. I hit 130 lbs, 5 sets of 5 tonight. Not a big number, but my goal for the month of July. Soon I'll be able to put the 35's away forever.

Since I'm following a hybrid of SS and SL, if I only get three sets of the five, I figure it counts. I have finished all five so far, but I leave that option open. The only thing is that my warm up sets with SL stop far short of my work sets, but with SS the last two sets prior to the three working sets should be heavy…

[/quote] Hmmm...all I can think is you might be engaging upper body too soon or you aren't dragging the bar against your shins as you come up. As the bar gets heavier it becomes more and more important to keep the bar close. You seem to be careful about form, so really don't know as I haven't experienced this. I never feel…

According to Lou, this is the original New Rules completely redone. I got the details at JP Fitness in his New Rules forums...it is similar also to 4 Life in that you are going to be able to customize. Woo hoo. I'll never get bored.

I strip the bar to just the two 45's so I'm down to 135 so I can easily lift it to the rack. But sometimes, like last night, I'm just starting with a bar that was left on the floor and all the racks are taken, then I load and unload one ended at a time. Lift one end so you can slide off the weights, the do the other end.…

Okay, I want in, too. My Deadlift PR today, 165 for 5 reps.

Keep in mind that MFP calculates assuming no exercise, when you exercise you get to eat more. Other sites usually figure your anticipated exercise into your daily goal. So, in reality your total calories would be close. In other words, unless you do no exercise you will not be averaging 1380 per day after you eat back the…

Okay...this workout was more like it. Still tough on the squats, but I made five sets at 128. So, 1 lb. increase on squats, 1/2 lb. on bench press and 3 lbs. up on DL's. Squats - 128 BP - 84 Deadlift - 165

Just keep on keeping on and you'll get back to where you were. I've had several 2 times a week workouts, and it may not be ideal, but still moving in the right direction. Pretty exciting about your friend. I'd love the opportunity to visit Rip's gym. And I knew it was not reasonable to expect 5 lb. Increases as a woman.…

According to Mark Rippetoe in Starting Strength, "A correct chin up or pull up starts with straight elbows and ends with the chin well over the bar, as high as possible. An incorrect chin up displays an incomplete range of motion, starting with bent arms or ending under the bar." I can't think of anyone whose word I would…

Ugh, lousy start to my workout. To begin, I had to camp out next to the power rack for about 25 minutes while this guy did about ten sets of quarter squats with over 400 lbs. I did my mobility warm ups while I waited, but still did a lot of standing around. Then after my warm up sets, I tried 128.5 lbs....just 1.5 lbs.…

I'm pretty sure that's what she meant. She didn't say turn fat into muscle. It looks like she's been at this long enough to know that. If you replace fat pounds with muscle pounds without losing weight, you are essentially trading fat for muscle. This is exactly where I'm at, except I have more fat on my belly to swap out.…

The OP specifically excluded first dates from the question. If a guy invited you out on a first date, of course he should pay. If you did the inviting, it would be rude to ask him to pay. I don't think most women these days are looking for a man to support them. A pretty foolish plan these days.
-
Personally, if I am overweight, even just a little, I feel fat and unattractive and I wouldn't expect anyone to be attracted to me. I've never had a guy ask me out or hit on me when I'm on the chunkier side and I don't blame them. The thinner I am, the more confident I feel, the more men I attract. It might just be the…

I would be happy to let the guy pay every time if that made him feel better. I don't pride myself on paying my way, I just think it is fair, and my bf agrees.

Yeah, tipping is a scam. I hate it.
