Sugar is an inflammatory chemical. I believe that the inflammation can cause some mild aches and pains in joints and other parts of the body.

No I don't think that is what the poster meant. View my diary (it is public). My breakfast is full of energy and yes there are carbs, just it is naturally low. BTW, 1 gram of fat has twice as much energy as 1 gram of carbs, that is why a gram of fat is about 9 calories and a gram of carbs is only 4 calories. Fat also…

I started on Feb 20th 2012 and I eat meat, veggies, and occasionally fruit and I am down 26lbs. I DON'T eat grains or processed sugars. Oh, I don't binge, I don't have cravings anymore, and I am enjoying life! AND I don't have to do chronic cardio to lose weight. Just saying.
-
Just because I do not eat grains, I am depriving myself? How absurd! However, if I said I don't eat veggies, I would agree with you. Overindulge? That just shows the addictive nature of sugar. Moderation? For some people certain types of food is like crack, usually these are sugary foods. Would you tell a cocaine addict,…

Total bunk! Sugar activates the same region of the brain as cocaine. When these regions are activated serotonin levels are increased (body produces it). Imagine how moody a cocaine addict would be without anymore cocaine... Sex increases serotonin levels, I don't think consuming carbs are involved with that. ;) But for the…

I don't think anyone is saying that the body is not designed for carbs. The body is very efficient at metabolizing the carbs as well as fats. However, there is more energy in Fat hence it is 9 calories per gram as opposed to 4 calories per gram that a carb is. However, too much of anything even good things are bad. Even…

I am considering doing one next year 2013. I think it would be cool to do this race with my son. He would be 18.

The sugar in breast milk is there for the quick uptake of energy, no? BTW, babies can get fat pretty quick on breast milk! Using your analogy, are we supposed to not drink milk once being weened from the breast? Technically I believe so, but I thought I would throw that out there too.

Very good point! So true!
-
gotcha. [/quote] My bad, I did mention the chronic cardio. I guess that was about it.
-
I didn't assume it would. I was agreeing with the poster that I quoted that if they are struggling to lose when following the rules, maybe it is time to cut out the grains and see what happens. Not everyone can process the grains so well. I didn't know I had issues with them until I dropped them. I ate oatmeal religiously,…

Nice call out! It's just noise anyway. Keep going!
-
Yes, I know. Oh, except when they cut up for a contest (to lose the fat in an effort to increase muscle definition).
-
I would like to add that those that do lose while eating tons of breads and pasta tend to do chronic cardio to lose. Just an observation.
-
I seriously do not think anyone is advocating cutting them out "completely". However, if someone wanted to, they could because carbohydrates are not "Essential" meaning that you body can produce glucose WITHOUT consuming carbohydrates. That being said, what you see is people advocating cutting out grains and processed…

Or if you use the mobile app, scan the barcode and compare labels (for the can anyway). I wouldn't think the calories would be any different, just the sodium.

Ketoacidosis is dangerous for people having type II diabetes and a malfunctioning liver (It has to do with Insulin again). A normal healthy individual doesn't get Ketoacidosis. As for "Do need", no you do not "need" to consume carbs, however, in the form of fruits and veggies, it is certainly more flavorful. ;)

My wife and I met on POF (Plenty Of Fish) a dating website. We have been together for 5 years and married for nearly 4 years. She is my soul-mate!

Outside! I have found that walking outside is harder than a treadmill, even compared with walking the treadmill and not holding onto any bars. Outside is more natural. There is fresh air outside. Treadmill is convenient when the weather is not cooperating, but I think it is more natural to consider those days as rest days.…

Oh so he failed to put the word "consume" in there, as in consume carbs. LMAO I think you enjoy arguing.
-
So you did lower your carbs to a point and got really good Blood Glucose results? I am interested as I have a friend who is Type II diabetic but nearly died from Ketoacidosis. So she is really afraid to try any low carb plan.
-
I would not advise going low carb (essentially) as it is very dangerous for Type II diabetics, they can get Ketoacidosis.
-
I agree with this. Especially the addictive nature of sugar. It has been demonstrated that sugar activates the same region of the brain as cocaine. Would you tell a cocaine addict "Moderation is key"? Honestly, I would cut out all white stuff (no pun intended), processed foods, high starchy foods, and of course sugars…

Look at it this way, the 4lbs are only water, unless you ate (4x3500 calories above your maintenance calories). Say your maintenance is 1500 calories, you would have had to consume 17,000 calories over the weekend. It is most likely you are just holding water. Look at what you might make you hold water. Processed foods…

That is a great job! Very inspiring!

I eat low carb, try to keep it between 75g and 100g per day, so have a look at my diary, it is open.
-
My opinion on their weight loss is that is just water loss. It would happen on most any restrictive diet. However, I do not think a "diet" like that is sustainable. People will get bored with it.
-
I count them.

I have a conceal carry permit but I don't carry. I will use whatever weapon the attacker provides me. ;) I am not worried about carrying a weapon as I am a weapon. :D Anyway, for all of you that consider carrying a pistol or a knife, you must train with it. There is an old saying I have heard for many years during my…

^^^^This^^^^^ More fats.. Fat provides satiety.
