Calories seem awfully low. I heard that they usually burn over 5,000 calories.

First rule is don't forget to finish your iPhone session before getting into the car and setting some spectacular segments.

I don't remember who it was, but the doping problem and why it will never go away was rather succinctly explained by an ex-cyclist. The problem is quite simple. When the Tour de France is decided by hundredths of a percentage point difference in time (last year's was .075%), it places a huge impetus for the rider who is…

You need a better boyfriend. BTW I am not allowed to keep my wife's bike in anything less than absolutely perfect condition.

I was using Finish Line Dry Ceramic lube in the summer, and Pro-lube in the winter because the dry lube gets too thick when it is below 60 degrees. Lately though I have been staying with the Pro-lube just because there is no wax buildup and a quick wipe with a rag & paint thinner easily cleans all of the external dirt off…

I love it when the sun is exactly behind you and you get that perfect rider shadow on the road just in front.

I'll second that Stan's sealant. My son was remounting his tubeless MTB tires (needs to be done annually) and one had a puncture in it that you could see light through. I told him that he needed a new tire, and he just laughed at me, put in 2 oz of sealant and pumped it up a little. It oozed for a few seconds, and then…

Another reason that I wouldn't want to live in Louisiana. In Pennsylvania you are allowed to proceed through a red light after a complete stop if your vehicle will not trip the light sensor. This provision relates specifically to motorcycles and bicycles.

Watching & listening to Phil Liggett. I just love the way he announces a race.

You'd love this bike. It's a 2001 Cannondale Hardtail that I had a set of road wheels laced up for (heard that some pro did it). Now I can just bring both sets of wheels and can do which ever I choose.

I have gone through a few saddles for my wife, and her favorite is the Selle Italia Diva. Very comfortable without being overly padded. She has no problems riding 30 or 40 miles on it.

Nonce? Numpty? I need the Brit to Yank conversion dictionary. The only word I know is Wanker.

When you transport your bike, make sure that you look under your car or truck first. They have been known to lurk there as well and cause a flat the moment you take out your bike.

You get that down to 35 minutes and you should look to get with a pro team. That would be smoking.

Ain't that the truth.

In cycling, weight is the enemy of hills. I was always in good cycling condition, but with each 10 lbs that I lost, the hills became easier and the average speed increased. Hills that I used to gear way down for I can now climb easily, and those rollers that used to require downshifts I can now power right over. Cycling…

Great job Mark. I hope to see that number right after New Years!

I've heard of a movement to try and get the laws changed so that cyclists can treat stop signs as yield signs, and red lights as stop signs. I'll be the first to admit that I roll through 4 way stop signs, but only if I can see that there is no cross traffic. If there is, then I'll see if they are letting me go, but if it…

Took me 5 month to lose 60 lbs in the Spring of 2012. I was maintaining at 190 for a year and a half but with an injury and lousy winter weather I gained about 14 lbs. I am back on the bike and running again and the weight is coming back off. Aiming to be back down to190 by mid August.

When it's hot, generally a 24 oz bottle (.7 liters) of Gatorade or electrolyte solution an hour. Over 2 hours, usually a pack of shot blocks or an energy gel at the 1.5 hour mark. Over 3 we usually hit a rest stop and depending on the mood, a muffin or a small sandwich. If we don't, then definitely some sort of power bar…

Glad to hear its working for you. :drinker:

I wear the SIDI Dominator 5 mega width using XTR SPD pedals on all my bikes and they are great. They became even more comfortable when I got the e-Soles adjustable foot bed. No problems at all regardless of how far I ride as long as I don't make them too tight. Then they squeeze the ball of my foot and I get a hot spot in…

Depending on the size of the group, it is typically the ride leader who is responsible. If the group is large, then maybe there would be a sweeper on the back who would stay with a struggling rider and let the leader know that someone is off the back and they need to either slow the pace a little or wait for them.

If you do decide to leave a note, be sure to mention that their dog is running into the road to chase you, and that besides not you wanting to possibly get bit, there is a very real chance that their dog could be stuck by an oncoming car. If that doesn't raise a proper response from them, concern for their own dog, then…

Probably the best advice is that everyone is different. I try to visualize the hill and pick a gear that will let me climb at a steady pace, not power into it and die halfway up. I do not consider myself a climber, but am surprised at the number of riders that come back to me as we get to the top of a decent hill. Also,…

Cloggsy, when I was a little heavier I used to regularly pull spoke nipples through Mavic open pro wheel hoops. Then I got smart and #1 changed to V section wheels and #2 lost some weight. Truth be told, I like the "too powerful" argument better as well.

No, no, a thousand times no. Don't get me wrong, I love my bikes, but they're bikes, they have no soul. Would you name your vacuum or your leaf blower?

I don't know how they attached them, but I have seen some video from cameras attached to riders chests. They stay fairly stable and I guess that they pretty much ride at the same angle. Worth a try.
