Sorry, this is long. I'm currently taking it. I'm somewhere around week 6 or 7 on it. My doctor prescribed it because I'm 5'4" and was 250 pounds. I set up every-other-week meetings with a nutritionist/fitness trainer before I started taking it so I'd have someone to talk with about my nutritional needs during and after…

You are right. For me, this was the method that made the most sense for me. I failed to consider that there are reasons why people would avoid hormonal medications. My apologies. (BTW I love your smooshed-face lion picture!)

Last year I got a birth control implant that sits under the skin of my inner upper arm and I haven't had my period in about 12 months -- just the one time after the implant went in and that was a light one. The implant is good for 3 years, at which time I can get another one put right in and keep on merrily going along…

My husband has a friend who was playing a video game all day and decided to use a pedal thing like this while he was playing. He said he made it something like 60 miles in a day while playing all day, when on other days he's only made it a fraction of that distance. And then he wasn't sore the next day. And I don't know…

I have no good advice for you, but I wanted to just write a note that I understand that pain! I slipped down a pair of stairs a few years ago and banged up my tailbone hard, too. It HURTS! I never went to a doctor either, because from what I could read there wasn't anything that could be done, even if it was broken. I…

I walked 6 miles today. I haven't walked that far in a very long time. And it felt AWESOME!

I thought I read something that said that when you exercise, your metabolism is elevated for the next several hours. So, if you exercise in the morning, then that elevated metabolism will help you process food during the day better than if you haven't exercised. And if you exercise at night, then when you go to bed, your…

You're looking for how many steps you've taken according to the MyFitnessPal app? I'm running Android, so I don't know if this is the same as what you're running, but this is what I'd do on my phone: At the top left-hand side of the screen is a stack of 3 lines. Tapping on that will open the side menu. If you look down…

Yeah, side-stitches can really be awful. I used to know people who said that stretching their arm over their head would help ease it, but that never really worked for me. But focusing on my breath would eventually help. Good luck with the running!

I agree with the use of different muscles. I imagine that the muscles that are used to actually propel yourself forward are not getting used exactly the same way whist marching in place vs. walking outside. At the same time, the muscles that are used to pull the knees up as high as in a marching step aren't muscles that…

Thank you!!! I'm looking forward to the day when I realize that some of the challenges I'm facing right now have melted away.

I have short little arms, too! And my teacher has "monkey arms." So when she sits down on the floor, she can touch the floor with her palms and has to bend her elbows a little. I have to reach to touch with my fingers. I'm constantly using blocks to bring the floor up closer to my hands! I like that bit, though, about yoga…

Beginning is always a good place to start! Let me know if you find any of them that are good! I'd love to see what they're recommending. :) Good luck with your yoga! I've been doing it for more than 10 years, on and off, and I've always enjoyed it, even when it's a little frustrating.

Ooooh, yeah, I dislike Eagle pose a lot. The only way I can get my arms anywhere close to the right position is to hold onto a strap. And I'm not sure I'll ever get my legs the right way there. Everybody in my class knows how much I dislike that pose. And my teacher points out how I'm using a strap for effective…

Thank you! I'll try that with the blocks when I practice tomorrow. I have mentioned to her that I have trouble with some of the poses, but she hasn't been able to help me much. We don't have a lot of time at the end of class and there are too many people in class to deal with it then. We were going to do a one-on-one…

Have you read Patrick Rothfuss' books? He has two out: Name of the Wind & A Wise Man's Fear. They're AMAZING. The only frustrating bit is waiting for the next book to be published. :)

I'm pretty sure twists are up there, too, for detoxifying the body.

I finally got a scale for my bathroom and then finally remembered to actually use it before hopping into the shower! (I have hair that's past the middle of my back, so when it's wet, it's probably about 3 pounds heavier.) This morning: 243.8. I can't remember how that compares to my last weigh-in. But since it's the first…

I finally bought a scale! It's coming from Amazon and should get here on Tuesday. It'll measure body fat and stuff like that, too, so hopefully it'll be a useful weight loss tool -- and not a $50 doorstop.

I'm so frustrated this morning. I didn't weigh in last week, so it's been two weeks since I checked my weight. I'm two pounds up. Dang it! 11/16 = 246 pounds. I have really got to get a scale for my house.

That sounds amazing! I am having trouble reading the top of your post, though, because I am absolutely terrified of your user picture. :frown:

I hear you -- it is hard sometimes. I try to come up with a plan. 1st glass on the drive to work. 2nd glass between then and lunch. 3rd with lunch. 4th between lunch and quitting time. 5th on the way home. 6th after working out. 7th with dinner. 8th with my meds for bed. I'm trying something new, too. Yesterday I brought…

I poke mine with a skewer a bunch and then put it in the oven whole (no water, on a pan to catch any possible drips) on the top shelf, but not too high, at 350* for 45 – 60 minutes, until it’s squishy when I poke it with a finger. Mine are always a little crunchy, never as soft as pasta noodles, but I’ve never had one go…

Yea! Horray for Capitan Picard! Well done, Vickij!

Does anybody find that drinking alcohol the night before a weigh-in seems to make the scale unhappy? I don't drink much (a glass of wine or two or a hard cider) but I try to not drink any the night before a weigh-in because I think it's going to have an effect. I know that alcohol in general is not a great plan while…

I used to run in the cross country team when I was in college in Minnesota. We used to joke that as long as you had warm socks and a warm hat, you could practically run naked! :embarassed: One of the guys used to run in shorts and a t-shirt, with warm socks and a hat. I wouldn't recommend doing that, but good socks and a…

32 years old, married 4 years, happily childfree. My sister has 2 kids (might have another), my older brother has 3 kids (and is done), and my little brother has 1 (and will probably have more). My dad sat down next to me after Christmas last year (all of us were together in one house) and said "You know, you don't have to…

(Huzzah! The photo works!) This was my first attempt at a Steam Punk costume. It needs tweaking, but don't they always? Also the looks I get from people when I say "Steam Punk" is hilarious.

I finally found you! My people! My name is Kylene and my super power is being able to look at a mess and not see a mess -- I see the organized bliss that is hiding underneath. Someday I'll be able to help other people with my powers. Until then, my back-up plan is being good at anticipating what people around me are going…

Thanks, Bca_Ncol and John! I know having people to keep me accountable will help me a lot. I've been trying to get under 240 all summer, I think, and just not making as much progress as I'd like. My quick and dirty history is that the lowest I've been in years and years was when I was 170-something in 2003. Since then it's…
