  • What I usually tell people in my practice is to use caution. During a growth spurt, bones determine the growth and it takes time for the muscle length to adapt. The discomfort felt during this adaptation period is commonly referred to as "growing pains". Therefore, if a teenager/pre-teen is doing a significant amount of…
  • Can anyone explain how it works? I have a polar ft7 monitor but thinking of the fit bit as well. Is it accurate?
  • I had the same reaction when I cleaned out my closet last week but mostly with pants.
  • Your lats bring your arm back to your body (lat pull down) or reverse action by bringing the body closer to the arm (pull up action). A side crunch is not going to move one end of the muscle on the other as it attaches to the humerus (therefore the arm must change position in relation to the body or vice versa). If you…
  • In order to do a crunch effectively and not strain your back your feet should not need help to stay down and your lower back should maintain contact with the floor/mat at all times to keep your lower abs engaged and your spine stabilized. If you can't keep the rest of your body still while performing a crunch then your abs…
  • I stopped eating poptarts the day I vomited them up 10 hours later and they looked EXACTLY the same as when I ate them. That's what did it for me. lol
  • I have this one and it works great! My HRM is always accurate and NEVER shows me an unreasonable HR. I don't think you can go wrong with any model in Polar brand but I also have a friend who uses the Timex Iron man without complaints. You definitely want the chest strap for accuracy.
  • Great change. I'm so glad to hear someone giving Jillian's video's a good review with visible results. All of us who use them know they work but there are really some Jillian haters floating around MFP. Awesome change!!
  • A picture truly is worth a thousand words. I think the inches part is the most accurate anyway. I am the opposite: the scale is moving but the measurements not so much. I've lost 25 pounds but don't feel like I've lost more than 5 by the way my clothes fit. I would choose measurements over scale any day so keep doing what…
  • I make an educated guess but I measure my cereal as that tends to be the tricky one for me. I've actually found a bowl that's exactly 1 cup so when in doubt, I just eat out of that bowl. If I can count it (i.e. pretzels) I count it. I always give myself a buffer zone at the end of the day in case I've underestimated…
  • I too seem to get bored with 30DS simply because it is the same workout every day. In addition to switching back and forth between levels I switch through her DVDs in her shred it series. For instance, one day I will do the original 30DS, then maybe the next day her shred it with weights/kettle bells. Some days if I do…
  • I agree that I don't log sex, walking for general errands, or other daily activities but anyone who has cleaned vigorously for more than 20 minutes knows it can easily burn calories and make you sweat. Of course, with any activity, duration is the key. I challenge anyone who feels differently to wear your HRM while you…

  • I have a Polar FT7 and love it. My husband has a Timex Ironman, which is also good. I do not consider myself fit and the Polar estimates my workouts a little below what MFP does, which was a little disappointing at first but better for me in the long run.
  • I totally agree about the after taste. I have tried the chocolate and the vegan strawberry. The chocolate had a good flavor as I love rich chocolate but the after taste was not worth it and the strawberry tasted like ground up chalk in my shake. In addition to the taste, they are EXTREMELY over priced. I prefer to buy my…
  • Great success so far! You look amazing. I would never guess 209, I would guess much lower!
  • I am a PT and the best way I strengthen the brachioradialis is to use a dumbbell eccentrically. The easiest exercise is to hold the arm in a neutral position (not supinated or pronated). Flex the elbow and slowly lower while maintaining neutral forearm position (thumb up). Dumbbells allow for the best eccentrics, which…
  • Girl, you better wear that bikini out because you are rocking it! As a physical therapist I hear this from my patients all the time and I'll tell you the same thing I tell them: do you and if anyone has a problem with it they don't have to look. Don't stop living the way you want to live to please shallow people. And…
  • I usually enter it as calesthenics but I didn't realize there was a strength training option under cardio.
  • You look fabulous and just provided me with the extra boost of motivation I needed today. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work.
