The thing that works the best for me is "No eating after dinner." That means as soon as I have eaten my last bite of dinner, I don't eat anything else. This makes it easy to avoid after dinner snacks, and I also enjoy my dinner a lot more, usually, since I'm paying attention to what I'm eating. Do I slip up occasionally?…

My son experiences this same thing. He stands up, blacks out momentarily (sometimes falling over, sometimes not) and then is fine. He is currently 15, and getting taller and taller, but no wider. His doctor sent him to every specialist under the sun, including heart, ortho, and endo, and no one found anything problematic.…

I like Smitten Kitchen's smashed chickpea salad, which you can modify to your liking. Just roughly mash them with some sliced olives (kalamatas are good) and maybe some onion (not for me, but ymmv) and mix in some olive oil, lemon juice, and s&p. Really good, really filling. I also do a cauliflower curry with chickpeas.

I do! I play the double bass, which is quite strenuous. There are entries in the exercise database for various instruments, and I picked cello since it was closest, but I never put in the entire amount that I play. Say I practice for 2 hours, then I will log 1 hour of playing, just in case the calorie burn is off. I lost…

I can clear up this confusion about January birthdays, since I was born and raised in the US, and have young kids now in Canada. In the US, the cutoff for birthdays for a particular year did not correspond to the calendar year, but a date corresponding more to the school year. So, kids with birthdays from September of one…

I'm 41, I've lost 20 pounds and kept it off for almost a year, and all the above advice looks good to me. Logging your food is super important. As others have stated, it isn't what you're eating, but how much. I haven't given up anything I like. Now, as I am currently maintaining, I don't necessarily log every day, since I…

I grew up in the 80s, and my mom was a great cook, and we definitely only had sweet things for special occasions. She never bought sugar cereals or Poptarts or anything like that, although she would make a dessert maybe once a week. Now, she did encourage us to eat large portions, and she herself had to have weight loss…

I haven't read all the responses here, but smoking does not only cause lung cancer and that's it. My father, who was a lifelong smoker and not overweight a day in his life, died at 50 of a heart attack. His final cigarette killed him, because it constricted blood vessels when the plaque caused the blockage. So saying…

I find having those Lite Babybel cheeses handy for the odd craving. They are only 50 calories, and I can spruce them up with some olives or half an apple and be good for another couple hours. Sparkling water and diet soda, as others have said.

6' and hovering between 177 and 180, which is where I look and feel best. I was considering going lower, but then I'd have to buy all new pants, and it is such a pain when you are tall!

I am usually very uncomfortable with male therapists, doctors, what have you, but my current massage therapist is a male and I wouldn't see anyone else. He is great. He came recommended from a good friend, though, which is why I felt comfortable. So, I guess I wouldn't worry so much about the sex of your applicants, but…

I started by leaving all foods that were triggers at the store. That didn't mean I couldn't have any, but buying a small candy bar and eating it is different than having a bag of candy bars in my house. And I have done the same thing as you, I would have a full dinner and then eat cheese and crackers until I was bursting.…

These are interesting! I am 6 feet tall, so my proportions are much different from most women. I weigh 191 right now, and fit into a size 14 as long as it is a "curvy" cut, since I carry almost everything in my butt. I hate buying pants, since most don't fit correctly. I call it "gap-osis", where pants that fit in the…

This is exceedingly inaccurate if you are outside the norms for height. I am very tall, so it said I am larger than I think I am. No, I am not. I look nothing like the picture they picked. Take this site with a grain of salt, if you are very short or very tall.

The ones called Opa from Lighthouse are really good. They have a blue cheese with greek yogurt that is 30 cals a tablespoon. So yummy! I haven't tried the other flavors yet, but I will.

I have been taking yoga through my community center for a little over a year now, and I still can't get my heels down on a down dog. As the previous poster said, it really doesn't matter. Do what you can. Our teacher always says "It is called Yoga Practice, not Yoga Perfect" which is exactly what you need to internalize.…

Looks to me (after looking at the Swiss Chalet website) that one whole order is 880. That plus the 200 calorie caramel dipping sauce put it a little over 1000 cals, which I've noticed is about average when it comes to restaurant desserts. Crazy, no? But yes, one donut in an order of 6 shouldn't be 880 calories, if they are…

Wow, people really are different! I am into a 12 now, but weigh over 180. I have never worn under a 12, though, even at my lowest weight (around 170).

I'm 6' tall, and I am heading towards 175. I find I look thin at that weight, even though it is in the upper range of healthy. I am very large-boned, though. I carry my weight in my butt and legs, so my top half always looks thin first. Just 7 pounds to go!

The problem with advertising, especially that geared towards women, is that it purports to be about supporting us in our goals (whether that be health, fitness, beauty, what have you) while at the same time making us feel crappy about ourselves so that we buy their products to be healthier, skinnier, more beautiful. Don't…

I'm 6' tall, and my starting weight was 205. I am currently at 186. I carry my weight in my hips, butt and legs, so my top half always slims down really fast. I am looking to get to 175, where I feel I look my best and can maintain. I have a very large frame, (size 12 feet, for example) so it really depends on that, and on…

I don't normally post, but I thought I would just pipe up on this. Your stomach is not gross. I would say that a lot, if not most, women that have given birth will have a similar one. You can try to fix it with diet and exercise, more power to you, but please don't think you are some kind of freak. Have a goal, but also…

This thread is really interesting! I am also 6', and want to get down to 185. I was 175 a few (okay, 10) years ago, and looked great, but there is no way I could maintain that weight anymore. I have never been below a size 12 pants, even in high school, but always looked skinny then. Being tall and big boned really changes…
