  • Woke up with a headache today and it's still hanging around, but I managed to get to the gym after work anyway. Another NSV to report -- I tried on 3 outfits this morning before I discovered a straight black skirt that I haven't worn in about 10 years. It FIT!!! I couldn't believe it! Got extra water in today.…
  • Thanks Gini and Nancy for the shoe brand recommendations. I'll start hunting around here for them. I am willing to pay $$ for good shoes if they are comfortable. That's one thing I decided not to skimp on a few years ago. Got new glasses today :glasses: -- variable lenses, instead of regular old bifocals. "Berry" frames --…
  • Welcome and congratulation on your new grandbaby -- AND your #s lost since your first post. You are doing great. Stick to your goals and you'll get there. NSV for today -- I managed to drink 4 glasses of water before dinner which, for me, is monumental. Yay for me! So many other great comments and accomplishments posted…
  • Happy Saturday Ladies! Survived my first before-school session with the trainer yesterday. I didn’t have trouble getting up and out the door (everything packed the night before), but by the time I got home and fixed dinner, I was ready for bed. Figuring out the best schedule is always a stumbling block for me. For some…
  • @ Carolyn -- I use Osteo Biflex and within a few days I felt like I could move better overall. I especially noticed it in my knees and hips. I try to take only one a day, but when I'm tired and especially stiff or sore I'll take the (higher) recommended dose. I just finished a bottle and bought the less expensive store…
  • Hello Ladies! So many new developments for everyone! Love reading all the posts. Hearing about everyone else's exercises routines, goals, and tricks really helps me stay committed to my own plans. Meg -- You were so right about those extra pounds fading away. They were gone by this morning, so I'm very glad I got right…
  • Hello Ladies, Went out to dinner Friday and Saturday nights this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed myself -- until I stepped on the scale this morning. Gained back 2 lbs.!!!!   I am soooo glad I went to the gym Saturday, Sunday and today and am hoping I can quickly turn it around. Will be packing my lunch this…
  • Okay, back with my goals for September. 1. Log food and exercise every day 2. Eat healthfully every day 3. Exercise 4 times/week 4. Drink at least 6 glasses of water/day 5. Vitamins at least 5 times a week 6. Visit thread 4 times/week Drinking the water is still the hardest one for me. Polly
  • Hello again my virtual friends, When I got back from summer vacation in August I couldn't access the thread because there were so many posts, so I have missed chatting with all of you! Good vacation -- maintained my weight even with a few dinners out, and some frozen yogurt treats, so YAY for me. Wore a tankini for the…
  • @ morning glory Trader Joe's has some GF products but they are mixed in with all the other products -- no separate section like some other supermarkets -- so you have to just read labels like crazy until you find the things that you want/like. I can get a variety of decent frozen fish there, different frozen veges that I…
  • Good afternoon lovely ladies! Had a nice birthday yesterday. DH bought me more time with my trainer at the gym so I can keep working toward my 50# goal. That was a nice present. My 16-year-old son made me a workout playlist on my i-pod with his favorite electronic dance music. I used it on the treadmill this morning and it…
  • Hi Snapdragon, Congratulations on sticking with those 60 minute drenching workouts with your trainer! I know how discouraging it can be when you are working so hard and you don't see any change when you step on the scale. Have you seen any change in your shape and your overall fitness? I'm sure you are getting plenty of…
  • Hello Everyone, Took yesterday off -- feeling so tired after overdoing it Saturday. Back at it this morning with time at the gym. Have been feeling discouraged because I've been either stuck or keep losing and regaining the same pound no matter what I do. I forgot to take my measurements at my last weigh-in on Friday…
  • Hello and Welcome to all the Newcomers! Hope you'll keep coming back to check in and share your successes and get encouragement for those tough days along the way. Dixie, my heart goes out to you. These are difficult days, indeed. The woman you met in the waiting room was an angel to let you know there are plenty of people…
  • Hi All, Took yesterday off after working with the trainer on Wednesday. Got contact lenses yesterday, too, and am not sure I can stick with them. It's really hard to stick your finger in your eye! And it feels like I've got sand in my eyes. Maybe bifocals aren't so bad? This morning I was up and out to the gym, but forgot…
  • I agree. If he's making you feel uncomfortable, tell him straight up. Then if he persists, talk to the owners about getting out of your contract because he's harrassing you. Also let your mom know what you are doing. You don't want her encouraging something behind your back.
  • Swimming is my biggest calorie burner, when I really push myself. I use an interval workout and the pace clock on deck to make sure I don't slack too long between sets. I'm saving up for a heart monitor to use in the pool.
  • Another thank you to Barbie for starting the August thread. And thank you for all the good suggestions about how to get through more water. I rarely drink soda, and cut out coffee and tea in the summer months. I'm only drinking water now. I'll try some of your suggestions and see how I do. I'm seeing lots of worthy and…
  • Thanks for the apple-cinnamon water recipe. Sounds good. I really struggle to get more than 6 glasses of water down. I've tried adding Mio and Crystal Light but they taste chemical-y to me. Maybe this will taste better. How do others get through their minimum 8 glasses of water a day? Polly
  • Welcome Donna in NJ, and Debbie. You’ve found a wonderful group! Check in every day and you’ll find lots of encouragement and support for whatever you are trying to accomplish. Exermom asked for more info on the Reader’s Digest Diet. It’s a 21-day plan using foods that, according to “research” help your body shed fat.…
  • Sherry -- how do you make apple cinnamon water? It sounds like that might help me get through more water every day. I struggle to get through 6 glasses a day, and I know I need more than that. Today was a pretty good day until dinner. My darling 16-year-old son was moping around so we went to the driving range to hit golf…
  • Sue -- Congratulations on going back to school! What are you working towards? I did it a few years ago (Masters in Ed.) while working full time, and it was hard but exciting. I snacked constantly while I was reading and especially while I was writing papers. Near the end of school, after gaining many pounds, I started…
  • Thanks for all the good suggestions everyone. It worked out great!
  • WOW! What an accomplishment! Enjoy your break, and keep going. Set some new goals for yourself apart from the end weight -- it might help recharge your motivation. I usually lose my motivation looooooong before I reach my weight goals, so this time I've made a list of smaller goals and rewards based on things I want to be…
  • PetalsandPaws, so sorry to hear your news. Hold his hand if he'll let you, and try to keep smiling so you can milk as much joy out of every day you have together. I'll be keeping you in my prayers, that you'll find the strength you need now. Remember to do at least one nice thing for yourself each day, even if it's just to…
  • Thanks for the warm welcome. Just finished a 30-minute walk through the neighborhood to keep from going over my calorie limit today. Now I'm watching the Olympic Opening Ceremonies! Sorry I missed the beginning. It sounds like some of you are in the UK, no? You can be proud -- the show is wonderful! Polly
  • I recently went GF and have only tried Schar store-bought bread (at Wegman's). It's okay -- a little dry and the flavor is different from wheat bread which I'll have to get used to. I'm a real bread lover and so I've been hunting for ideas on how to solve the yucky bread problem of going GF. I found a chapter on GF bread…
  • Hi Gillian, and All, I've been looking for a group like this since joining MFP in April. I'll be 55 in a few weeks, and decided during the Spring after a partial hysterectomy that I needed to finally do something about my weight and overall health. I'm a teacher, and couldn't really muster the energy or willpower until…
  • I've been eating a gluten-free diet for the past three weeks because I think I have a gluten sensitivity. I'm feeling better, so I plan to stick with it. I've read several websites and bought a few books to get me headed in the right direction. "Gluten Free Quick & Easy" by Carol Fenster, Ph.D. has 200+ recipes and the few…
