I too have little to no arch, and when I run without the right support I tend to pronate inward (feet roll just a little) which causes terrible shin splints (muscle actually pulling away from the bone). The shin splints can take weeks of rest to heal, so you will want to get a handle on this ASAP to avoid being sidelined…

Once a Marine, always a Marine. My father was a Marine, and doesn't like being told what to do. However, if you tell him he can't do something he will certainly work to prove you wrong. If were you, I would key into you husband's competitive drive (I'm sure he has one). Maybe challenge him to some kind of fitness goal…
