  • Yes. I'd be doing it to finish, not to finish at any given place. Now, the second time, I'd be looking to do BETTER than the first...
  • Exactly! The pedantic rants that arise over the difference between "muscle weighs more than fat" (per volume, which is what Every. Single. Person. who says this means) and "muscle weighs more than fat" (per pound) are foolish at best, and destructive to all of our efforts at worst. Then, it inevitably becomes "you can't…
  • Jumping rope. Running. Running in place. Jumping jacks. burpees.
  • You should really be eating more like 1500 plus calories, unless you're really trying to crash diet (which it kind of sounds like). I have a hard time getting my numbers right, but I'm set up in MFP to lose 2 pounds per week, just by hitting my NET properly. If you're not trying to change your lifestyle and get to a place…
  • Up three pounds, but I completely KILLED myself at work and then the gym on Saturday. I'm pretty sure it's all muscle-damage water and some salty food last evening. Headed to the gym shortly to do the killed thing again. :)
  • I have days when I go over my calorie target/allowance, but I still track it 24/7/365.24 It is the only way to KNOW what is going on. Now, my activity level changes a lot from day to day, and that is a hell of a lot harder to track. So, I set my general activity level one step lower than it probably is. This does give me a…
  • It's all good until it trips over into narcissism or obsession. Both are personality disorders, or can be. But you know what? If your personality disorder(s) mesh(es) with your partner's personality disorder(s), who cares? It's nobody's damn business. I'm just glad there are women out there with poor enough taste that I…
  • Well, as soon as they crack reverse genetic engineering, we can all toddle off to the genetics lab to get our family history edited. Otherwise, "good for you!"
  • one egg, two egg whites, and four ounces (~120 g) of lean ground turkey, 2 Tbsp (~30 g) hot salsa Fry up the turkey in a teflon pan, spray a little oil, add the eggs, cook. Add salsa, salt, onion powder, and pepper. Enjoy. Just under 300 calories, and keeps me full all morning. (no sugar or flour to spike blood…
  • Just a tiny quibble. It's not carbonated drinks, it's sodas and such, particularly those with phosphoric acid. Seltzer water is virtually identical to regular water from a dietary perspective, and can taste much better, encouraging intake. http://www.livestrong.com/article/504733-is-carbonization-in-seltzer-bad-for-you/
  • Thank you! I'm excited. :)
  • My only problem with swimming (and I used to be on swim team) is that it's quite boring. Really, really boring. Other than that, it's awesome. :) ETA: firedragon064 said: Umm... whut? None of that makes even an iota of sense. Could you elaborate on what you mean? Maybe with references?

  • I don't do a cheat day. If I go over my allowance, I go over my allowance, and I log it. Everything gets logged. It's the only way to be sure you're not sliding down the long, fat slope. Also, if I'm going to eat anything really carb-heavy, candy, or sugar, I make sure that I'm eating something with a lower glycemic index…
  • I had a pretty intense exercise day yesterday at work and at the gym, and I'm just about to head down to the scale. I'm also ravenously hungry this morning for the first time in weeks. Let's go see what the scale says... Up maybe a pound (but I'm using my old analog scale, so it's just on the HIGH side of 237, instead of…
  • No idea. I love it. Chobani is one of the better ones. Fage is probably the least offensive to yoplait lovers.

  • Yes. Track everything. Use the MFP site or apps to keep track of what you eat. Make yourself accountable, and you can succeed! Also, get all the "bad" snacks out of the house/apartment. If they're just not there, you just can't eat them. And, as noted above, many times when you "feel hungry," you're actually THIRSTY.
  • Impressive as hell! Awesome work!
  • I do my level best to track everything. Even the 4 chocolate raisins I eat when I sugar-snack (before meals only). Anything less would be cheating nobody but me. I don't like it when I go over my target, but I did the math, and I've got a few hundred calories before I even break even. :) But, I figure, hell, if I'm pleased…
  • Second that for the 365 Whey from Whole Foods. It's not too expensive, and the vanilla is pretty tasty. Dunno about the chocolate... yet.

  • The author makes very good points. Amylase repeat increases and lactase shut-off mutations alone should be enough to drive the nail in the coffin of this very marginal diet's "justification" that humans haven't had time to evolve to eat an agrarian diet. Good for some people? Sure. (particularly those with food…
  • Eh. I keep track very closely, but I try like hell not to let it destroy my enjoyment of life or food. If I eat something, I put it in my phone... If I can't be sure about the calories, I make an educated guess, and just add the total. I don't freak out if I "go over," though. I just remember that I need to make that up in…
  • Okay, okay... THOSE are disgusting. THIS? Is delicious. (Although not too far off the original in general design) http://yourjapanesemenu.blogspot.com/2011/11/japanese-menu-yakisoba-pan.html
  • Skipping rope will kick your butt. It's one of the better cardio workouts that doesn't require a lot of space or equipment. After my divorce, I started skipping rope on the driveway outside while my 1-year-old was asleep. I lost a good twenty pounds that month. After that, I started jogging/running. I should have kept up…
  • Not true. Particularly older spring scales and some strain-based scales are very sensitive to their inclination and any internal distortions, like being set in a slightly different spot on an uneven tile surface. Any internal shifts, like blood moving from place to place, shouldn't make a difference in weight, but you're…
  • Yeah, I'm wondering about this myself. I know my current scale is a couple of pounds off, but it's what I've been using to track my progress... I'm hoping to get a more advanced scale (with body composition, et cetera...) and I guess I'm just going to "blip" my weight track if it's significantly different.
  • Hrm. I'm using the android app, and recording all my food and my every-couple-of-days weigh-ins... That's enough to keep me on-track, usually. I'm just making myself accountable to my phone for everything I eat, and all my exercise. The ticker takes care of itself. :) Since nobody else sees my phone, I figure leaving stuff…
