  • I hear you. Seasonal celebrations are an awfully convenient excuse at the best of times! In terms of binges, I always call to mind two sayings to desperately try to stop myself: - you can have what you want now, or what you've wanted forever - restraint weighs ounces, regret weighs tons And when words aren't enough, if I…
  • I agree with you to an extent, but a binge is a binge - regardless of size. It's the way it makes you feel mentally, why you do it, and the impact it has on you that counts. Not your starting weight. I don't mean to be harsh but the tone of your post makes me question your motive for putting it up. To the OP, why did you…
  • What an open and honest post. Well done for writing it. Your body gave birth to a baby - such a wonderful thing. Do not kill yourself with guilt about the changes your body has undergone; that very body enabled you to have a child. You can get there, I promise. I absolutely ruined my body with years of overeating - stretch…
  • Well done you! :) It's a lovely feeling. I have a couple of pairs of jeans which were a little too snug to be totally comfortable - I am going to try them on in a few weeks and see if there's a difference. Suffice to say I often think clothes are a better guide than the scale!
  • It took a good 2.5 stone (35lb) for the first curious "have you lost weight?" As others have mentioned before me, I suspect that some people are a little shy of upsetting people who have lost weight - it's a touchy subject. I've lost a lot of weight and some people are still polite and say "you look different, have you cut…
  • Hi there, I came off a low-carb diet earlier this year (pre-MFP days) and basically gently shifted it to a low-GI diet. I didn't measure the carbs I was eating, but was just sensible - no days full of bread and pasta and potatoes just because I could! I incorporated them meal by meal - usually my evening meal. I'd add…
  • I guess you can argue the toss until the cows come home. Personally, I use a Polar PT4 heart rate monitor.
  • Hello! I must admit, I feel a teensy bit fraudulent replying to this thread as a significant part of my weight loss was due to cardio (and lots of it), but weights did play a significant part, particularly in the latter stages. When I started losing weight, I knew that I'd have to incorporate some weight/strength training…
  • Zumba certainly laid the ground for me to shape up. I attend a very high-impact class 6 times a week, and it certainly zapped my body fat to a degree that made my newly-formed muscles pop through! For me, it particularly built my calves, thighs and shoulders - dancing on my toes for the former, strong repetitive arm…
  • Same here! In my experience, lifting weights has really helped with the muscles in my chest and whilst it's not exactly a nipandtuck, it certainly made a different to the appearance of my boobs. I went from a 38G to a 34D/E, and whilst they're not funbagtabulous they're definitely not as bad as they were. Lotions and…
  • Turn the adverse conditions on their head! The cold is bracing, the rain refreshing. Your body will get used to it, as others have said.
  • Well done on your loss! I've lost nearly 84lb and am quite lucky in that I have very, very little sagging skin on my limbs (largely through lifting weights and kettlebells). My stomach, however, is another matter - I do have a pooch, which is partly leftover flab and partly crepey skin. I've started lifting heavy weights…
  • You're more than welcome :) You're absolutely right - if it can happen to other people, it can happen to you. It's hard, but not impossible - and it seems like you've hit the ground running, well done on your loss so far :)
  • I haven't worked this damn hard, and been this damn happy, to throw it all away.
  • Hello! I've got a stash of these in the freezer for those days when SRSLY I CANNOT BE BOTHERED. It usually goes hand in hand with a long day at work and a class in the evening, and then they're my best friend. I must admit, they do keep you pretty full. I know that all foods that claim that have something of creative…
  • Hello! I was fat when I first started, and knew that throwing myself into a hectic workout regime would probably have me collapsing in red-faced gym humiliation. I started gently - ten minutes' brisk walk on the treadmill, 20 minutes on the crosstrainer, 10 minutes on the bike and then 10 minutes cooldown on the treadmill.…
  • I know the feeling. I remember sweating my behind off on the crosstrainer, denying myself yet ANOTHER Greggs cheese and onion pastie, and not losing approximately a stone a week. Unfortunately, slow and steady does win the race - no two ways about it. I just kept my head down and told myself that, one day, it would all be…
  • Hello there! I'm 5'5". My work here is done! :D To all who have replied, including the best MFP friends a girl can have - thank you so much.
  • Hi Kiki - 18 months, give or take. In maintenance-ish mode now!
  • Smaller portions and plain ol' 'sensible' eating helped me. Cut down, rather than cut out, carbs and watched my sugar intake. Exercised the weight off, largely. This is a lifestyle choice, it has to be sustainable - fad diets are called exactly that for a reason!
  • This, word for word.
  • Cardio 6 - 7 times a week, weights 3 - 4 times a week.
  • I posted these recently, but thought I'd put them here for anyone who is on the brink of throwing in the towel and screeching "FACKITALL". Basically? Got a short, sharp shock from my doctor in September 2010. Decided to stop PCOS, heart disease and type 2 in their tracks by getting up off my bum and extending my life by a…
  • I gave it a shot. In a previous relationship I was cheated on on numerous occasions (don't give me that look; I know). I forgave him - that came easily. A bit too easily, but I digress. But the forgetting was the impossible part. I tried really hard - counselling, the works. But ultimately the damage was done. I take my…
  • A pizza and a beer is my Friday treat after my zumba and circuits classes - I LOVE it. Ticks a lot of craving boxes - salty, cheesy, crispy, chewy. I curl up on the sofa, plate on my knee, and tuck in. It tends to be a supermarket effort - I'm not a huge fan of takeaway ones as, like others have said before me, the…
  • Bump! I have ancient stretchmarks on my upper arms from them being big, but I've also got newer ones since I started regular exercise (particularly weights). Interesting!
  • Sounds like you already succeeded, but I'll impart to you words a MFP member said to me when I was tempted by workplace cakes: "you can have what you want now, or you can have what you've wanted for years". Did the trick for me :)
  • Aaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahaha. ...aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!
  • I've had sexier smear tests. Poorly-written, for one. And two - I never have an issue with disliking characters in a book. Sometimes it's important. But OHMYGOD. The most desirable man on the planet (allegedly) is a 27-year-old playboy squillionnaire with a whole bag of neuroses and body wash (if I had to read about how…
  • Hello! Sorry, I missed this earlier. When I first started, I was very unfit. So I joined a gym and decided to take baby steps - I'd go three times a week, and my routine would be the following: - 10 minutes walking on treadmill, 20 minutes crosstrainer, 15 minutes bike, 10 minutes walking on treadmill. I then started…
