  • Whoops I had entered this in the wrong place. My weight as at 6.30 am Tuesday morning is 144.6 lbs. (I'm a little early as I live in the UK). Great job everyone and keep going!! :)
  • At least once per week I make a big pot of soup. If it's some kind of bean/lentil based, or minestrone or something, it works out really cheap and the best thing is you can put it in the fridge and just have some with a pitta bread or something whenever you have not much time. I get most of my recipes from the internet,…
  • This was me last Tuesday - and today I just weighed in at 144.6. (I'm a bit early as on British time, it's 6.30am here). Won't do the measurements until a month in. Great job everyone :)
  • It took me at least 4 weeks to really get to grips with this, but when I did, it just got easier and easier. The most important thing for me was not to panic that it was taking up a lot of my time, because it only does in the first few weeks while you get accustomed to it, and get some recipes set up in your database. I…
  • I'm certainly no expert, but I read that the easy non-scientific way to make sure you're getting the full range of vitamins and minerals from fruit and veg to try to include and vary all the colours as much as possible throughout the day. So if your lunch was a mixed salad with loads of raw veggies or a soup with lots of…
  • It's really confusing sometimes on MFP because members are from all over the world, and stupidly, sizes are different in a lot of different countries (even though most fashion manufactuers make clothes for retail in all countries then have to sew in different labels). I'm from the UK and a UK 6 I would consider a healthy…
  • Hi - Thanks for keeping track of this, I appreciate the effort you're going to. My starting weight is 146.3 Neck 13.4 Waist 32.3 Hips 35 Bust 33 Thighs L 22.0 R21.65 Upper Arms L 11.4 R 11.4
  • Definitely for me it is a flat stomach. I can't remember having one since before my first pregnancy 8 years ago. I know I will always have stretched skin but I want the muscles of my stomach to be flat.
  • This sounds great to me - this would mean I'll be at my goal by 25th Oct, and that would be fantastic! I don't manage to do a gym session everyday - but on days I don't get to the gym I always walk the dogs, take my kids to the park etc.so I should be able to meet the 30 mins a day if walking counts? I usually do an hour…
  • Yes - give starbucks the finger, I agree. You will also save yourself loads of money each month and precious minutes queing up for coffee. Make your own lovely coffee and bring in one of those cups, or do you have option of making at work? Don't give up - this is a long term thing, think of how you will look and feel come…
  • Well I'm NOT vegan, however I love food, and cooking, and I have always loved the vegan blog below because they are so creative with their ingredients, and their food always looks so amazing. It's not a calorie watching blog so you might need to adapt some things but it will give you some great ideas and in one month you…
  • Me too
  • I have the same problem, and to be honest I haven't found an easy solution, I just cook separate meals for the boys, then I cook for the Hubbie and me later when they're in bed. I have separate cheese, milk, yoghurt, everything really! Otherwise I would have to have such small portions I wouldn't be full.
  • "Heavy" would be something you struggle to get 5-6 reps with. Thanks for this - that I can understand!
  • I'm curious. I often hear people talking on here about women 'lifting heavy'. For an average sized woman, what is 'heavy'? I mean in lbs or kilos, for free weights one in each hand say? So many people swear by this, but I am totally clueless about what this would involve. My gym has some free weights in a corner, but the…
  • Crusty white bread with salted butter and cheddar cheese
  • Yes I have a similar problem, I have lost around 10lb so far and all of it seems to be from my bust (which was already pretty small), and not my stupidly fat stomach. Bummer, but I'm just trying to be patient and focus on reducing my body fat percentage, and eventually it will start to go down I hope, but like me, it is…
  • Sorry if this sounds anti-monarchist, I'm not especially, but I'm going to take advantage of the bank hols and get the hell out of the UK to somewhere hot!
  • I run with my two dogs and they couldn't be more different. I have a 10 year old American Bulldog ***** who has run with me for years on and off, she runs really well on the lead. I have one of those leads that have a section that goes across your body. I would highly recommend one of these lead types. Not sure who stocks…
  • I might try to incorporate somethign you remember from before, to rekindle old memories, like going to an old favourite restaurant, cooking a meal that you used to eat together, or just doing something nice you used to do or whatever, then you can start talking about old times and it might help the conversation flow.
  • I get this pain in my shins too and so have stopped running. Haven't run for about 4 weeks now but it's still there, even if I just do a bit of jumping about or a fast walk. It's annoying as it's just not getting any better. I found this, which might help you? Good luck : ) http://shin-splints.co.uk/shintreatment.htm
  • I've only tried Zumba once, but I was weirded out a bit because everyone except me seemed to be wearing a strange skirt with jangly things hanging off it, and at the end of the class the teacher came up to me and was like, I still have a skirt available for 5 pounds if you would like one. I just kind of shook my head and…
  • I like the sound of this a lot! I will be takinga week holiday in June so thyis will encourage me to keep it going whilst away! Might not be able to log in while away but will try, otherwise will rteport back once on home turf. :)
  • I've been looking for swimwear for my holiday and I'm in the UK. That does it I'm going to look in Debs. By the way you are so beach ready already!! Any extra lbs lost is just a bonus. Enjoy your holiday you have obviously worked hard and you have more than earned it!
  • Cereals, including porridge (oatmeal) I keep trying to have cereal for breakfast as everyone says they keep you full all morning, but I start to feel sick through the morning, and unsatisfied. I feel like I'm eating animal feed. Especially if it comes in a box and you just tip it out into a bowl. It doesn't feel like food,…
  • Indian food is my favourite! But, they do use so much butter/oil, especially in restaurants. I would recommend not having the breads, and only the steamed rice, because if you have a biryani or vegetable fried rice it will probaly have lots of butter in it. If you don't mind having a dryish dish, then tandoori chicken or…
  • I don't know the official 'recommend' levels of saturated fat, but if you go into GOALS in MFP - change goals - custom - it comes up with what MFP recommends for you. For me it's 13g per day. I'm on 1400 cals. I would have thought it would be really hard on a balanced vegan diet to go over that, especially with so much…
  • Agreed. Coffee IS the nectar of the gods and I wouldn't stop drinking it for anyone or anything - including if it was said to hinder weight loss. Sorry weight loss, nothing personal. I just love coffee more.

  • Seems like you've got the right idea already. Cooking everything form scratch is a lot cheaper, and when you use pulses always use the dried ones, they go so much further than tinned ones. It can sometimes cost more at first, but if you are buying loads of veggies and spices and whatever, then making several dishes, and…
  • Well this might not be helpful to you in your issue with rude 'frends' but... I would LOVE it if you could share the cheesecake recipe with me, sounds amazing!! I guess they are just having a bad day. I don't have many MFP friends, because if I did I wouldn't be able to keep up with it all, but I have to say I have never…
