I'm a nerd in one aspect: gaming. I was addicted to gaming for most of my life, but I'm recovering. Unfortunately life's busy, and I can't play video games on the treadmill without falling off of it, so (at another MFPer's suggestion) I'm beginning to watch YouTube play-throughs during my cardio.

But anyway, How's your book, Cap? Just wrapped up a book called "Everyone Lies", about the world of difference between old-fashioned surveys and trends indicated by Google searches. Fascinating, if you're into that sort of thing.

Hey, did you know you can get a $40 off UnderArmour $100 gift card on Ebay for $10? (Sorry, wanted to close out that deleted thread by providing a reasonable solution.)

Isn't that an obstacle from the old game show Double Dare? Find the flag!

I'll hold back, though I'm tempted to tell you to get a new doctor. Perhaps your doctor is telling you that you 'don't need to' lose any more weight, from a long-term health perspective? You use your doc for his/her objective medical opinion--and you should consider that to be the limit of his/her usefulness. Though in…

Oh yes, I've heard stories about Austin. To say more would probably violate MFP's policies. But I've heard.

Interesting, so neither Dallas nor Houston are in east Texas. Don't hold it against me; I was raised in Southern Illinois, which is basically all of Illinois south of Chicago and Rockford.
-
Doesn't almost everyone who lives in Texas live in east Texas? Where's the cutoff line for "east"?

Don't let anyone tell you logging is a requirement, or even that it's preferred. Logging food daily is not for everyone. Yes, a lot of people on MFP do log food, and you should try it--if you've never done so. Logging food is also a good way to troubleshoot your diet, if you're not losing weight but think you should be.…

Pizza in my neck of the woods: St. Louis style thin crust - 1,000 slices, NEVER FULL Regular crust - "You eat half, I'll eat half." Chicago style - one slice, NO MORE!

It's good to connect with people with similar goals. I haven't weighed in yet but I'll be looking to lose 50-55 pounds. I'm beginning training for a fall sport, trying to lose as much as I reasonably can in the next 6 weeks, but intend to keep it going through the fall/winter. Add me :)

I've been known to listen to Irish folk. Dropkick Murphys/Flogging Molly were a 'gateway drug' into full-blown folk music.

I was addicted to video games growing up, which became a serious problem in college and early adulthood. What REALLY helped me was, when I was into a particular game but life was getting busy, just watching a walkthrough video of the rest of the game, and being done with that game. I've never watched walkthroughs just for…

To add to that, the game needs to be casual, and not a game with a time limit. I've also discovered that almost every iPhone puzzle game is the same game with minor variations. (A particular company makes nothing but near-identical puzzle game "sagas"--I don't know how they stay in business.)

I watch Jeopardy (a game of sorts) and then work out. I don't think that counts though. I do need a good way to incentivize my long outdoor walk/runs. For me, games are a good incentive; the problem is, when I tire of the particular game, I also tire of the exercise. (example: July 2016, Pokemon GO)

Can you rock the Jackie-Kennedyesque man voice?

This. You all can have red licorice.

If you follow the right influential people Twitter can be quite useful and inspiring. If you follow the wrong people, it's the political war zone everyone has mentioned. I don't recommend tweeting (yourself) unless you enjoy trying to debate closed minded people, or promoting your brand.

I read Quiet, and it's great for introverts to understand their value in a society obsessed with extroversion. I recommend it as a read for everyone--not just introverts--because for how many people call themselves "introverts", so many "extroverts" don't understand them. And for that reason, understandably so, many…

Ignore the people who are negative. Though I do agree with them in this regard: Losing 10 pounds in 2 weeks is an unrealistic expectation. But a smaller goal--say, 5 pounds--is a lot more reasonable. I'd also suggest you don't limit your foods to just vegetables and fruit. Eat some lean meats too! Personal recommendation…

This topic reminds me of an old lendingtree.com commercial. (Sorry, I guess I can't just post a link to YouTube. Well, enjoy the video!) https://youtube.com/watch?v=r0HX4a5P8eE

S Bran Stark. I'm literally not sure what that says about me; I haven't seen past Season 2.

Planning the vacation is half the fun! No way I'm gonna outsource that to a third party who'll probably "surprise" me with something I'm gonna hate.

I'll give you one reason to ask for a credit score: "Three out of four Americans in a committed relationship, or 78 percent, prefer a partner who is good with money over one who is physically attractive." -Citigroup survey . . . and a denunciation of credit altogether from my homeboy Dave. "Your credit score is not an…

It's a day of the week that ends with "y".

$9.99 a month, $49.99 a year. I'd assume the $10.00 rebate applies to the annual subscription. The question you need to ask yourself: Is $39.99 (including rebate) worth a year of the stuff below. I don't need it, but I'm not you. Nutrient Dashboard Choose a view that best helps you achieve your personal goals. Food…

(keeping with the tennis theme) You know you're addicted to the tennis when Sharapova's not there but you still can't stop watching.

(This probably only applies to me, but) You know you're addicted to the Wimbledon Channel (at wimbledon.com) when the exact same match is airing live on ESPN but . . . nah.

Corn. I had a childhood hatred of several vegetables; the only veggies I still hate are peas and Brussels sprouts

I have read both of these books and personally recommend them both.
