Low-protein, doctor prescribed for a medical condition. In practice it's like vegan. My diet consists of fruits and vegetables, an occasional grain, and typically coconut or almond alternatives to dairy.

Cassava tortilla chips, Daiya cheese 'shreds', SoDelicious yogurt cups.

Mine was from 2014, so I guess I still look like that--not quite as youthful. Oh, and add a government-mandated face muzzle, just because it's 2020.

And make sure to leave your main breaker CLOSED. Your neighbors deserve backup power every bit as much as you do.

Don't let it bother you. People have no right to judge the food choices of someone with a strict 'safe foods list'. They either missed that important detail, or they're just jerks. You're certainly not advocating that everyone eat the way you do.

I'm currently in a transition from the Standard American Diet to a doctor-directed low-protein diet. PKU is an amino acid metabolism disorder. Amino acids are the 'building blocks of protein'--my body sucks at breaking down one of them so I have to limit my protein from food. (Why I was ever off the diet is a long story…

Your first (next?) child will beat a medical condition doctors will tell you is terminal, and will be a successful businessperson in his/her adult life.

OP's profile says Tennessee (United States). Any grocery stores mentioned so far should be available in Tennessee. Except Lidl--apparently it's an Aldi competitor? I can vouch for almost everything at Aldi, except their meat--go elsewhere for meat. Depending on location you might check the fruit; my location has problems…

Since no one has said it yet: Keep eating out to a minimum. Those bills usually aren't cheap to begin with, and they add up. If you do a household budget, shift some of those 'eating out' funds over to 'groceries'. As far as eating at home, in the suggestions above everyone mentioned vegetables, but only one person…

I don’t want to highjack this topic, you’re looking for advice from vegans. Where I benefit from talking with vegans is any base recipe they have that they add a protein source to it, generally I might like that recipe but just not add the protein. I eat 10g protein per day. 60g of modified “protein” comes from a doctor…

I should add, of course, that a low-protein diet essentially means no animal products. I share that in common with vegans. But I admit there's probably more I could learn from vegans than vegans could learn from me.
-
The low-protein diet is doctor-directed to address a medical condition. For all other intents a low-protein diet would be foolish.
-
Low-protein here. Like vegan but more restrictive.

About being overweight with PKU: Know what doesn’t have protein? Sugar. You can figure the rest out on your own. :D

My daily routine is 2000 calories plus exercise. I don't plan to deviate on Thanksgiving. 400-calorie breakfast leaves me with 1600 calories the rest of the day--most of which will come from the 'big meal'. Full disclosure: I'm 240 lb, so my routine drops me by 2 pounds/week. I understand it's not that easy for everyone.

I've found that the simple act of faithfully managing a budget keeps you away from many bad food decisions too. Primarily because eating out is unhealthy and costs money, and eating at home is the reason you buy groceries. Speaking of groceries, buy as much of your groceries from Aldi and other discount grocery stores as…

Sorry, I'm not going to judge something I just learned about today. OP: A belated congrats on your 3rd anniversary of starting Paleo. Please consider my advice to dismiss the blood type diet stuff, because you're just going to confuse some people and draw criticism from others. If you've not figured it out yet the O blood…

So Type O is essentially Paleo. I'm an O, and I've never in my adult life felt healthier than I did during my time doing Paleo. I don't intend to preach on how great Paleo or Type O blood is, that's just my perspective.

I'll be living in Houston in a month. Presently in Missouri. Physically I'm in no condition for a half-marathon, but best of luck to you.

A lot of Neil Gaiman fans. American Gods has been on my list--just haven't gotten to it yet. I'm currently reading Unfreedom of the Press by Mark Levin. This probably turns off a lot of people, given Levin is a conservative political commentator. It's about the idea that the United States news media used to consist of…

I hear she's paid a full-time salary by Under Armour to chip in her two cents on every topic on the forum. Good gig. #rumor #isItTrue

Two more pounds by next Friday the 19th.

Scale goal- 210 lb by 12/31 (262 lb today) Non-scale goal- self-confidence that comes with knowing I look good. Fun goal- Walking onto the pitch next spring for Gaelic football and hurling, and being able to play any position (even midfield).

New Balance. I’ve worn nothing but NB since 2008.

50 pounds by the end of the year is reasonable, and you’ll feel a lot better. That’s 2 pounds per week. Planning to lose any faster than that is unrealistic/unsustainable.
