Fresh marina sauce - dice enough tomatoes for however many people you are feeding, add some olive oil, chopped garlic, fresh basil, pepper & a splash of vinegar. Simmer for 20 minutes. Serve over whole wheat pasta or for less calories, cook a spaghetti squash & use the strands as your "pasta". You can really add whatever…

My husband's department has done a Biggest Loser-type competition the past 3 years (without people being eliminated - you are in it for the whole time). They even allow spouses/significant others to participate, as long as they can get in for the weigh in days. They typically put in $20-$25 per person so the pot is around…

We're close by - I live just outside Columbus. I'm struggling right now (getting ready to re-set my weight as I've gained back half of what I originally took off - blah!) but I think I'm pretty good at encouraging others. Feel free to add me if you'd like.

It's the best feeling in the world right now, isn't it? Congratulations - you deserve that new smaller pair of jeans!

Many of us have been in your shoes - or similar - when we get really busy & unmotivated & then hard on ourselves for failing. I'm actually in a rut right now that I am desperately trying to work out of. But guess what? You are NOT a failure - you've lost 17 pounds! That is fantastic and you should be PROUD! There is…

I'm right there with you. I know exercise & healthy eating make me feel better in the long run but my mojo is gone! I am unable to get up early as my body requires 8-9 hours of sleep to maintain focus & do a good job every day. I don't get to bed most nights until 10:30 or so which means the alarm going off at 6:30 is all…

I don't know if it's bad, but it's how I've always worked out. I have a family to feed, so we eat when I get home & get it fixed. After the dishes are done, I head down to the basement and get on the treadmill, etc. If I had to work out first, then eat, I'd never work out because it doesn't fit my schedule to do it that…

Wow - fantastic! A toast to you!

From what I've read, anything considered detox is not good for you nor necessary for health. The body is a miraculous thing & takes care of itself if you treat it right. Detoxing can actually kill the good bacteria in your gut that you need for proper digestion. My recommendation is to just eat right and let your body do…

There are a zillion different causes for heart irregularities - they have specialists for electrical issues with the heart who are booked solid with appointments. My husband, son & daughter all suffer with heartbeat problems - son has too many electrical paths in his heart which causes his heart to beat to jump to 180-190…

I wouldn't count it but I guess that depends upon how you set yourself up on this site. Depending upon how you marked your normal daily activity level, your assigned daily calorie load should already compensate for it (unless you marked it as sendentary/desk job type activity). If you said you were active, you should be…

Backslides are a part of life (my life anyway!) & I think they keep my eyes open to what I'm really doing, like a reality check. I revisit my food & exercise journal and objectively look at what I've done over the past week or two. Before MFP, I would lose weight, then regain it because I didn't keep in check with my diet…

Everyone's definition of "in shape" is different, so you need to know what your goals are. I agree that you should have a complete physical (I don't care what age you are, everyone should before they start an exercise program) to rule out any issues that could be life threatening, but frankly being overweight is life…

Hmmm....have to check on it later. So far only 1 other photo in my category.

The sisters Hannah & Olivia have made me laugh the entire season so I am rooting for one of them to win. I love to see how far everyone has come at the finale (and how many haven't done so well on their own). Not a fan of Cara - sorry to her fans but her voice drives me crazy. Will definitely miss Jillian! Thank goodness…

Yeah, we were just talking about this phenomenon this weekend, although my "not so in shape" moment was tied to chores. I'm definitely in better shape than I was last fall - I can finally do 60 minutes of interval training & not break a sweat - but apparently I'm not as good as I thought. After I helped turn soil, plant…

I agree with the 8 cups a day thing is an old study they've backed away from. I also read in the same article that this quote above isn't true. Not sure who to believe, just wanted to bring it to everyone's attention. I think the overall benefit to water is flushing your cells & keeping you hydrated. Dehydration causes a…

I don't think there is a right or wrong way to use the HRM calories. I tend to write down my calorie burn for the treadmill, then stop & reset my HRM for when I start my next activity - weight training, DVD, eliptical, etc. I go under the assumption that the "down time" calories are part of my daily normal activity…

Darn - I'm going to have to join Facebook one of these days. I'm thinking I'm one of the few people left on earth that isn't on it. If I do, I'm going to look this up. I need something to get me going again!

Congratulations - that's a well deserved pat on the back!!

Jump rope. If you have steps, run up & down them.

That is fantastic! You should definitely be crowing - that's is a proud moment for you. Congrats! And Happy Birthday early!

Probably not the best story for a healthy living website but here goes....I am #6 of 7 children (16 year age difference from top to bottom). By the time my sister & I came along, my parents were a lot less strict, so we got away with a lot more than my older siblings. My dad was a Boy Scout leader, so my 4 brothers were…

Unfortunately, you can't tone up your girls, just the underlying chest muscles. I dropped 2 cup sizes and without a good supporting bra for the little things, they are quite saggy. I would wait until you are to your goal. If it still bothers you, then go for the lift as a reward for all your hard work! I have a girlfriend…

I think I'm healthier now - I don't get sick at all anymore (I just jinxed myself, didn't I?). I don't know where you do your workouts, but if it's in a public facility, you may be picking up viruses/germs there that your body isn't used to. Make sure you wipe down any machines, handles, etc. before using. Wash your hands…

I agree with the other responses - I try to find a similar restaurant. I've also found that if the local restaurant has a website with a "contact us" link, you can ask for nutritional info. Some of them actually have it available, they just don't post it on their website.

Yeah - good for you!
