  • Milk, iced tea with lemon. Sometimes I make a pitcher of iced tea and put some raspberries, orange slices, and mint in it.
  • Amazing transformation, man! No way I would ever have considered those the same person. Unbelievable.
  • Your carb count looks pretty good but your protein is definitely high. And that's coming from someone who eats about 225 grams of protein a day. I would lower the protein intake to about 200 and raise your fat intake to about 80-90. When doing intense excercise your body NEEDS that fat for all kinds of things. P90X takes a…
  • Are you typically eating under 20 grams of fat each day? I wouldn't say you are over on protein either...in fact, especially considering you are a distance runner I would up that to at least 80 grams of protein in a day. Are you vegetarian? If so, and if you aren't allergic, a GREAT source of healthy fat, protein. and…
  • While I do think that diet pills like these are unequivocally bad for you, its definitely not because the FDA says so. They condemn and endorse products based solely on what the drug companies tell them to.
  • Dark green, leafy vegetables are a decent source of calcium...i.e. turnip and collard greens, kale, broccoli, spinach. Also, whoever told you dairy hurts weight loss is incorrect. Non-fat plain greek yogurt has about 110 calories in an entire cup with 20 grams of protein to boot. Not to mention the myriad of benefits the…
  • I'm guessing this was a long overdue reward...not guilt necessary. As a side note: What does DH stand for? I assume its husband, but not sure about the "D" part.
  • The reason is because its VERY hard to calculate calorie burn for strength training. Things like heart rate, pace, exertion, resistance, etc. all play a role in it and its a much more complex process biochemically. Its virtually impossible to get a universal number for squats, curls, etc.
  • I order the maltodextrin and dextrose online as I've yet to find them in a store...though admittedly I haven't looked all that hard. The whey protein you can get just about anywhere though the price, taste, and quality varies so greatly that it can get very confusing. The best combination of taste, quality and price I've…
  • The problems with chocolate milk and muscle milk after a workout is that they are a slow absorbing protein...i.e. your muscles have already catabolized before the protein is absorbed.
  • I never understood where the 4 to 1 ratio carbs to protein comes from. Your doctor is closer to being right than your beachbody coach...but both are a little off. What you need after an intense workout where your body breaks down muscle are a) a quick absorbing proteing (whey) and b) a combination of both simple(dextrose)…
  • Mission Carb-Balance tortillas if you want to go flour or just go with the pre made hard corn shells (Taco Bell, Old El Paso, etc.) Also, you can save some calories by making your own seasoning...its VERY easy and cuts out a ton of sugar and preservatives. Use a little bit of cheese and load up on greens, tomatos, veggies,…
  • Things you have to know: Percentage of lean meat being used...is 95, 94, 90, or 85%? How much of meat is being used? What brand of shell is being used? How much of each topping is being used? For example, I could have a soft shell taco using Mission regular soft shells, 2 ounces of 85% beef with Old El Paso seasoning. an…

  • Its physically impossible to gain 7 pounds of muscle in 30 days at 1200 calories per day. Contrary to what the previous poster said you can't "bulk" up unless you eat at a calorie surplus. I'm guessing here, though it is an educated guess...that your body isn't getting enough calories. I'm thinking you are going into…
  • Finding a good low calorie whole wheat bread is essential for me. Here in Chicago there is a company called "Today's Temptations" that make a diabetic low-carb bread that is all natural. The nutritional make up for 2 slices is: 90 calories 12 grams carbs (8 of which are fiber) 1 gram sugar 10 grams protein 1 gram fat I…
  • While excercise burns calories, which is essentially weight, you won't lose fat unless you adjust diet. I think this is essentially what the articles trying to say. Its so very easy in our culture to overeat by 1000 calories in a day, while burning an extra 1000 calories is equivalent to a very rigorous hour long…
  • Peanut Butter, whole milk, whey protein, eggs.
  • I'm guessing the VAST majority of that weight is water weight and will be gone by today or tomorrow. I think 157 is a realistic goal this week.
  • Stevia is ancient and is not an "artificial" sweetener. Its been used in South America for CENTURIES as a natural sweetener and Japan has been using it in the common form we see here since the early 70's after extensive studies. The FDA is a self serving government agency that makes many of its decisions based of what big…
  • I agree with just about everything except the very first thing posted. The food pyramid is so archaic and too many of the recognised organizations listed get paychecks from Pharma. Other than that, yes.
  • Since the Ab Ripper is usually done on days with resistance training I'm assuming you did it with one of the strength routines. If that is the case, its REALLY hard to get an accurate calorie burn on resistance training. That being said, if you happened to the Ab Ripper on the same day as Plyo...than I believe it. Plyo can…
  • I'm a 31 year old male. I take prenatal multi-vitamins...I think they are the best. No science or anything behind it, I just feel better when taking them.
  • I would just add a serving of whatever oil she's using to your dinner.
  • Not sure if some of you bought some or not, but he's already shipped out orders to 12 states and 3 countries!! Going well so far. Let me know how your's looks and what you think when you get it.
  • Thanks for the feedback, everyone, I forwarded my brother your messages for both encouragement and the great ideas.
  • This. The one drawback to eating a lot of yolk is the calorie content. So mix whole eggs with egg whites and you can get the protein benefits along with the other benefits the yolk brings.
  • I'm sure this is going to be unpopular here, but there are SEVERAL studies that indicate dietary cholesterol has little to no impact on bood cholesterol. I eat 3-4 eggs a day and my blood work is all very good.
  • Strawberries and blueberries are natural diuretics. But the most important thing, as mentioned before, its lots and lots and LOTS of water.
  • There is so much conflicting information about the effects of drinking water during or immediately following a meal. I think, like most things, it varies depending on the body. If you have trouble with indigestion and you notice you're drinking a lot of water during your meal, try to lower your intake during meal-time.…
  • Its about the greatest thing in the world. I live in Chicago and my brother and I drove out to a forest preserve in the woods last night to do s+ome difficult cache's. We ended up walking 9+ miles jumping over creeks, climbing hills, crawling under bridges, and trudging through the snow. I can't imagine how many calories…
