  • I'm curious where you came up with 140. You'd have to lose quite a bit of lean mass to get there if you're at 27% at 156.6. I'd be aiming for 150, if I were you. Healthy body fat for a female is 20-25%. How was the 27% calculated?
  • If you're only 290 over your goal (and presumably still in a deficit), the only real gain should be from glycogen replenishment, but that could be approximately 10-12 pounds for you (if they were very depleted). I'm concerned about you still trying to lose from 160, though. What's your height and goal weight?
  • I like boiled eggs cut in half with mustard. They taste pretty close to deviled eggs, but are very conservative on carbs and calories.
  • I also have PCOS, and I have found that I lose much more consistently at a higher intake. 1300 is very low for your size. I would recommend trying the 1600, but also know your protein needs, and don't exceed them. We might have fairly similar TDEEs, and I lose best around 1800 net.
  • To me, the really troubling and telling bit is him acting like you shouldn't eat. Someone who cares about you should want you to be strong and healthy. That is someone whose abuse would escalate either with time, or potentially if you started standing up for yourself. For that reason, I'd recommend a straight breakup,…
  • In my experience, I would say 10 pounds could do it, depending on where you lose it from (which we can't control, of course). At the rate you're losing, which is perfect btw, I'm sure you'll love the way it falls by then.
  • No need to worry about it. That isn't enough to cause you any setback. I've had net carbs in the 70s on occasion, and stayed in ketosis. A lot of people on keto have a carb goal higher than 20 anyway, just so you know.
  • This concerns me, and I'll tell you why, but please know that it comes from a place of caring. Going to the gym everyday isn't healthy either. It reminds me of my dad, and his all-or-nothing attitude toward attempts to improve his health and fitness. His inability to approach it in a sustainable way resulted in advanced…
  • I had this thought too, but I wasn't sure if most people have access to that. My elliptical came with a polar chest strap, and reads my FT4 if I don't use the machine's strap. My receiver showed 00, but the machine read my hr just fine. This showed me the transmitter wasn't the problem, which makes sense anyway since the…
  • Sounds like the battery to me. I had this problem, but it was the battery in the receiver causing it in my case.
  • Actually, even the type of scale they use at the doctor's office is inaccurate if not properly and recently calibrated. At my doctor's office, they once freaked out thinking I'd lost 8 pounds in a week. When I insisted that it wasn't remotely possible, they checked and it had been calibrated in between those 2 visits,…
  • Actually, stopping using artificial sweeteners can cause daily headaches too. I learned this when I cut out splenda. They lasted about a month, and I'm someone who rarely got headaches prior to that.
  • I arrived at 115 grams by the total amount of chicken your friend recommended, and looking up the protein content of the leanest chicken cut.
  • 115 grams/day is only a little high, not "mega-high." Not remotely a problem unless she actually has kidney issues. I'm thinking she'd have mentioned that, though.
  • It's a misconception that ketosis causes a change in breath. That change happens from gluconeogenesis, the conversion of protein to glucose. It can happen if your protein intake is higher than your body needs, or if your body has burned some of its own muscle for fuel. And no, it isn't likely to get into ketosis at that…
  • I'm assuming you are not currently breastfeeding? That would make a very big difference. It isn't possible to be sedentary while providing care for a young child, though. I too would recommend you calculate your TDEE, but your activity level would be somewhere between lightly and moderately active.
  • Looks good to me. I'd switch the cheese to one that won't contribute carbs, though. Your protein goal might be just slightly over what's ideal for keto, but I don't know your lean mass (and I know you haven't customized your macros yet). The range that's recommended is .7-.9 grams per pound of lean mass. For me, as an…
  • That is probably approximately accurate. I would have MFP recalculate your calories with that activity level with a one pound per week loss as your goal. From there you can adjust again with custom values as you see fit (best to do this for keto anyway, so you can figure your own macros). You may also want to raise…
  • That certainly sounds a lot closer. What did you enter for your activity level, though? That still sounds a little low. Taking care of children burns more calories than you'd think. I'd go with the activity level that says is appropriate to someone who works as a nurse. (Might be moderate, but I'm not certain.) What it can…
  • You need to calculate your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure). You're off by >1,000 calories. This may actually be your problem. I, and many people, lose better on a smaller deficit. Yours is way more than you think it is.
  • From this info, I gather that you believe your TDEE is in the 1600s? Where did you get this figure? That's more likely the neighborhood of your BMR. I would suggest you calculate both, and take your deficit from your TDEE.
  • I'd recommend you have some berries (a fair amount, if you can). Most of them are low enough in sugar as not to cause a crash, and they're nutritious enough to help when you're feeling crappy from eating poorly.
  • In some ways, we will never see ourselves as clearly as other people can see us. It isn't possible to have rolls of fat at your height and weight, and it wouldn't be possible for rolls of fat to not be visible through clothing. What you're describing is loose skin, which is unavoidable with that large a loss. From what…
  • I didn't feel any foggier than normal, so I can't speak to that, but it would be extremely unusual if your glycogen stores got depleted enough to get there in just one day. Are you extremely active? Otherwise, what you're feeling may not be keto-related.
  • Given that it seems to be only alcohol that brings this on, I'd ask for bloodwork testing liver function.
  • Do you have Raynaud's? I do, and alcohol causes dilation of the blood vessels of the extremities, and the effect is more pronounced in those with Raynaud's. When this happens to me, my hands are also red, and very warm.
  • That isn't a day that would throw me out of ketosis, so I'd relax a bit if I were you. If you're up 2-3 pounds in the morning, then it did, but you can get back in it in a day or so (if you're really strict again). Anytime you're faced with temptation (which generally goes away after a time), take a minute to decide if…
  • Not sure if you go straight back into a keto-adapted state, but strips will show negative until you've dumped most of the water weight you picked up. For me, that usually took 24-36 more hours beyond when the other signs of ketosis were noticeable.
  • http://www.costco.com/Head%c2%ae-Women's-Ski-Glove---BlackPink.product.100086284.html I have Raynaud's too, and also live where it gets very cold at times, and I've found these gloves extremely helpful. They have a zippered pocket on the back for inserting a hand warmer, but the gloves alone keep my hands plenty warm. I…
  • My best friend had Mirena (IUD with hormones), and within 2 years, it had worked its way most of the way through the wall of her uterus. It required abdominal surgery to remove it, and the recovery was pretty miserable. I would never use our recommend an IUD knowing that.
