Walking and Leslie Sansone videos. Both make a great start and aren't too difficult or hard on your joints.

For me it makes all the difference. I retain water very easily, and if I don't drink enough or eat too much sodium my weight can go up by 3 to 5 pounds. Now, there are different opinions on this, but if you don't like drinking water you can drink (and count) other liquids as well. Herbal teas, water with a few slices of…

Chinese has a lot of salt/sodium in it, it's likely you are retaining water because of that. Drink more water and watch your sodium intake for the next few days, and that weight might come off again. ;)

There are a few reasons she might not be seeing a loss on the scales. A loss in inches is great progress though. Get her to to measurements, I'm sure she'll see the numbers go down there! A reason why she might not be seeing a loss (or even seeing a gain) on the scales is that if you start a new exercise program you are…

I'm in Ireland here, but I'm retaining water like a camel as well, it's very frustrating. At least it's just water and it will come off again once the weather (inevitably) cools down again

I like Leslie Sansone's Walking at Home videos, they are simple but I work up quite a sweat while doing them. I recently got a Wii balance Board, and am using that nowadays. The Wii Fit game that comes with it isn't very good, so I bought the Wii Fit Plus game which is a lot better. Not only are there more exercises, but…

I started with Leslie too, and it was great because the exercises are simple but at the same time burn many calories. I really recommend looking into her videos, you can always do the harder stuff later when you are a bit lighter and more fit ;)

Not a native, but I've been living in Ireland for 14 years now. Any Irish folk feel free to add me. :flowerforyou:

Thanks for the replies. To be honest, I'll probably end up with several of them. For now I've ordered Wii Fit Plus since I already started with Wii Fit Anyway, and I'll ask my mother in law to keep an eye out for EA Active in the the UK. I haven't seen it for less then €20 here in Ireland. I might get My Fitness…

Anyone? No one has used the wii for exercise or has experience with the various games/programmes?

Same here. I want to get into a healthier weight range as soon as possible. After that I'll start worrying about toning, clothing size, etc. Without all that extra weight burdening my joints exercising will be much safer and easier. Also, thanks to the weight I am I can eat large meals and still lose weight fast. Once I…

Glad to hear someone helped you out!

I'm not really sure, but she might want to see her doctor about that, I think there is medication that helps boost the thyroid. Since it's a medical condition, she might want to see a dietician as well.

I look at my friends' diaries to get meal ideas and to support them, not to judge them. It's not up to me to tell them to eat clean or to eat back their exercise calories, or anything else for that matter. I always take a peak when they finish their diary, and I'll post a "well done" or similar if they stayed at or under…

For me being on my feet for 6-8 hours wouldn't be normal, so I'd log some of it at least. I'd probably log it as "walking, slow pace" and then for half the amount of time depending on how much you are standing still, so probably 3 or 4 hours.
-
Same here. I'm almost half a head taller, but I never notice it when we cuddle or kiss. Our height difference has never been a problem for either of us. We've been together for over 14 years now and have a beautiful daughter. He's a great father and wonderful husband. I'd hate to have missed out on such a wonderful man…
-
This for me too. Anything I was already part of my daily routine before I started MFP I don't really count. Only if I go above and beyond normal, I log it. Long shopping trips (I'm not really a big shopper) that go on for hours I'll log as very slow walking, and I'll log big heavy chores like washing the windows or moving…

Hard boiled eggs Apple slices with a spoon of peanut butter Carrot sticks dipped in low fat cream cheese with herbs Handful of nuts Yoghurt (with or without fruit)

I second this. See your doctor first, then start by alternating walking and Leslie Sansone. This will build up both your endurance and your self-confidence, since you'll be able to do it! I started with walking 20 minutes, and could only do Leslie's videos for about 20 minutes(staying low impact) per session eight weeks…

I love the kiddy-sized bags of MilkyBar buttons. Very low on calories and I nibble them slowly one by one. CurlyWurlys are great too :) For me this is a lifestyle change, and life without chocolate is not worth living

I log in the morning (or sometimes the day before) to plan my day, and then make adjustments as I go along. I can always change and edit things if I change my mind :) I never complete my entry until after dinnertime though, to make sure it is accurate.

That's a good question. I'm not really sure to be honest. I only had one baby, but I've been overweight/obese most my life so my stomach has been pretty stretched a well. I know you can get lose skin after losing a lot of weight, which can slowly get less since skin is quite elastic. If you keep it well moisturised with…

It could be a heat rash or a slight allergy to your own sweat. When I started working out I broke out in a rash in my skinfolds, uck. Either way, just get some cream for nappy/diaper rash and put that on it, it will work like a treat. Also, try to shower right away after exercise (don't let the sweat dry on your skin) and…

I don't feel comfortable posting a real picture yet, I hate the way I look at the moment. I'm sure it will change in the future. A lot of my friends who started at the same time/are a similar weight have been brave enough to post real pictures and I admire them so much for that.

This got me. I'm still feeling awkward doing my fast walking, and dread moving on to running. This makes me want to run though, and with my head up high. Thank you for posting this.
-
I started with 20 minute walks. I'm now doing 50 minutes at a very brisk pace. Just start with what you are comfortable with, and then start pushing yourself a bit more when you gain your confidence. Good luck, you can do it!

I've sent you an invite :)

Me too. I stop eating at least 2 hours before bedtime (and then only a few very plain biscuits and some camomile tea) else I'll be having bad/vivid dreams and I'll be waking up often. I've spent years of sleeping badly until I started MFP and stopped eating at night, now I sleep like a baby
