  • Thanks for your reply @SezxyStef, I had a feeling I wouldn't be able to gain muscle at a deficit. I know JM isn't the best resource for muscle building, but having been very sedentary the last few years (desk job and college), I'm very out of shape, so I wanted to start small. I think I'm ready to up my game, but I'll have…
  • Great post! Two weeks ago I lost 3 pounds, and then last week I gained 1 back, and was feeling discouraged. This reminder was very helpful in keeping me from falling of the wagon.
  • I try to limit fried & overly processed foods, but for the most part I just eat what I want, and try to make sure I'm at least close to meeting my recommended nutrition goals.
  • @BillRicks, I do have my calorie goal @ 1500, but just in the last week, my protein intake has ranged from 54-80g (even though I've been close to or over 1500 calories) so I guess I really need to work on finding foods with more protein that are still being somewhat lower in calories...
  • Skylar, I definitely need to work on having more meat. Unfortunately I was raised on main dishes where carbs were as much a focus as protein, if not more. Pretty much all my go-to meals when cooking at home are pasta based (lasagna, spaghetti, tortellini, etc.). I really need to learn to use carbs a side instead… it’s just…
  • Hey GoPhil, Thanks for the recommendation. I guess I just figured to get rid of the fat, it would be best to cut calories. In regards to gaining muscle, I’m not looking to bulk up too much, I just want to get toned, and gain strength (which typically comes with a bit of muscle gain.) And Lemonsnowdrop, I think I will have…
  • I'm just getting back into using Myfitnesspal (it's been just over a week,) but I'm logging in everyday now, and would love to have some new fitness buddies to help keep me motivated :)
  • Thanks for all the advice everyone! I think I will try Hal Higdon’s plan, but I will start with a Couch to 5k program, since Hal’s plan calls for a base of 3 miles. And thank you very much Becs3578 for the refueling/recovery advice!
  • Jillian Michaels DVD's are awesome! My favorites are the 6 week six-pack and 30 day shred. They both of them kick my butt every time. You’ll be sore afterwards, but if you stick with it you’ll definitely see/feel results.
  • You should definitely start weight training right away. More muscle means a higher metabolism. Also, like Rahlpn said you may gain weight, but it will be the good kind and it will feel different.
