Awesome!!! I love a glass of wine but have a son who just cannot drink. Once he starts he can not stop and I'm glad that he has stopped drinking for the most part. I lost my mother years ago when she was only 58. I know how that can affect you. I think that you are taking a big positive step. I also had a friend that was…

Just having my morning coffee before I get ready to head into the plant. I weighed myself this morning even though I should really have waited until Wednesday. Don't know why I do this to myself. I'm really just waiting for results. Friday night I had two glasses of wine and for some reason when I have wine then I get…

After making the trek into town to get groceries and hitting a wall of fatigue due to the lack of sleep I had last night, I managed to spend sometime outside pulling weeds and tilling up the flower bed. That actually is a workout in itself I think. It was a beautiful day and again I’m not looking forward to going back to…

I think possibly you need a midafternoon snack. I usually eat something worth about 200 calories midday. Maybe an apple and some almonds or a small protein bar. If I don't by supper I'm ravenous and i don't eat what I should eat. I also make sure my food is easy to prepare for supper. Quite often i cook a lot extra on…

I started running last fall at age 52. It was always something I thought I couldn't do. I still find that first ten minutes hurts and I definitely am not speeding but I sure love the feeling I get after. It's such a sense of accomplishment and happiness. I ran in a 5k fun run when I was in my mid twenties and then Jan 1st…

Thanks for the friendly welcome. This looks like a great place for support. Don't know if anyone else had that SUPERMOON interfere with their sleep last night. I was hoping to get out early and do my run but it seemed like daylight all night long. I live in the country and I'm not used to that much light filtering into my…

Hello I've only been on MFP for a short time and I really like it. It's just what I need to take me to the next level. A couple of years ago my DD confessed to me that she was a smoker which was a heartbreaker to me as my own mother died at age 58 after a eight year battle with cancer. She told me she worried about my…

I have the 410 XT Forerunner. I like it but I've never had another device before to compare it too. I like how it downloads to my computer and shows my route, lap times, heart rate. I even wore it to boot camp and it gave me an idea of the distance covered in boot camp and the calories burned. My daughter uses an android…

I did the C25K as well and I'm still running and still finding it difficult but for me I do feel great afterwards. I don't know if it's the endorphins or just the feeling of accomplishment. There is also that brain thing. It keeps telling you that you can not go farther. And lately I've been out o prove it wrong. I think…

The one I have is a chest strap that came with my Garmin GPS 310 Forerunner Watch. My husband had a much cheaper heart rate monitor. Sorry can't recall the name but we got it at drug store. It's not that user friendly but it did the job. My heart rate monitor seems to work well. It goes just under the chest and I don't…

I'll say I love running outside much better than indoor cycling but I think I probably expend more energy (calories) in the spin class I've attended. It's 30 minutes of spinning and 30 minutes of kettlebell. I'm totally spent after that one. I can't say I love it but it doe what it intends to do. Burn calories and increase…

I have a Garmin Forerunner 310 Xt that has a heart rate monitor. It downloads my route to my computer and tells me distance, max pace, average pace, average heart rate, max heart rate and calories burned.

I wonder if it's your shoes? Have you had your running shoes fitted by someone at a running shoe store? Just a thought.

Just got back from today's run and I had to post this new observation. Buzzards circling. Hubby said this is not a good sign.

My last two pair were fitted at the local running room. The first pair were Asics and a stability shoe. I have plantar faciitis and very wide feet and high high arches. These shoes felt very klunky too me. My friend who has been running long distances for many years tells me he changes his shoes every 3 months and never…

Haha I checked your profile and I see that we are relatively neighbours. I live about a half hour west of Kingston Ontario so definitely you've seen the same thing on the roads that I do.

I think my husband downloaded the couch to 5k from itunes. I made it through the program and thought it was awesome. At the time I also joined the Couch to 5K group on facebook which I also found good. Lots of other people doing the same week at the same time posting. I liked that it tells you when you are halfway down…

Rural Eastern Ontario Canada- 1. Roads always slope off to the side so it's easier to run on the shoulder because it's flatter. 2. Lots of walkers and cyclists but I think my husband and I are the only people I've seen running out here in the near vicinity. 3. Vehicles are very accomodating and usually pull over to the…

I'm quite a slow runner but I hear sprinting is supposed to really help. For me now endurance is more important and I think the speed will eventually come a I start going longer distances. From what I read you should a couple of times a week do a shorter run and a higher intensity and then once a week a slow long run.

I did the Couch to 5K app last year and did my first 5K on Jan 1st of this year. It was more of a fun run than anything and I would encourage you to pick one that is less serious first time. I'm over 50 and for me when my friend and I looked back and still saw lots of people behind us it made us feel good. I'm definitely…
